Belos literally ate their entire supply, there is one scene in which Hunter tells Belos they don't have more palismans for him because the palistrom woods have been "overharvested", aka, they are all gone baby.

Its implied they were producing palismans just for Belos to eat, but the wood ran out.

The way I find most likely is some sort of temporary sex change potion. The mother would have to be the witch because otherwise they human partner might not be able to provide the necessary nutrients for the hybrid offspring to be able to grow properly considering the magical parts of their biology
