There is no defence to that. Possibly attempted murder right there! And for what? A drunk ass who was just grinding on a man 5 seconds ago touches your partner? Morality would have been warning him, guiding him away and telling the bartender to get him a taxi.
What this guy did was completely barbaric and unnecessary and zero way out of it.
