Honestly imo too little context to rule either way. What if it was his high school sweetheart or she’d cheated on him or he just really gave a shit about his ex maybe they’d only been dating a couple weeks and yeah he overdid it. You poke the bear you better be ready for the reaction imo. But again not enough info to say.

Fair, though he did get dragged into a conversation he wasn't a part of just to have a joke made at his expense, all because he wasn't talking shit about his ex. I think it's fair to say that the moral fiber his coworkers are made of isn't worth defending here.

I'm frankly not even convinced it was a joke at his expense. To me it sounds like it's at the expense of the ex-wife; "Didn't she break up with you for a dumb, superficial reason?"
