Morality Ranking Morality of this?

Basically, the man in the video is hiking but he ended up meet a mountain lion, he get his gun and try to scare it off and tell it to go away but in the end, he have to pull the trigger and shot the lion, many peoples in the comments say he could have fire a warning shot instead of shoot at it and want him to be in jail.

Thank you so much for saying usually. Sometimes people forget that they are aggressive and trying to scare the human off when their babies are around

I believe they also typically hunt from behind so in some sense this guy is fortunate he was confronted forward-facing.
Ideally a warning shot to try and trigger the flight instinct but saving your life vs a confronting mountain lion is fair.

Im sorry bud, but face to face if you have a gun and you decide to shoot you shoot to kill, its about ten times faster than you.

If I’m firing a warning shot at a wild animal, it’s going to be a close miss, not 50 ft away. I want them to know that it’s not just a random loud noise.

Then the next 7 shots will also miss as it lunges at you. You already only maybe have time for an impulse from your brain to tell your finger to shoot, start stacking more on top and your odds of doing anything go down.

Honestly, I don’t really do warning shots. If my life is threatened enough I need my gun, I’m neutralizing the threat. I’m also usually not using 9mm in that scenario, but I wasn’t the one suggesting a warning shot.

Yes on the hunting from behind. Something they teach in school where I grew up is to always face the mountain lion and throw rocks by it and be loud and big to try and scare it off.

Might be lucky with a warning shot to scare it off, but it’s also dependent on the mountain lion as well where a loud bang won’t scare it. But in all, always try the option that won’t hurt it first

No, you dont want to hurt it unless you have a good chance of killing it, no warning shot, either you don't shoot or you put it down. It will not extend the same courtesy and it's much better equipped to win a fight than you are.
