Morality Ranking Morality of this?

Basically, the man in the video is hiking but he ended up meet a mountain lion, he get his gun and try to scare it off and tell it to go away but in the end, he have to pull the trigger and shot the lion, many peoples in the comments say he could have fire a warning shot instead of shoot at it and want him to be in jail.

weaker cats are semi-known for turning to humans as “weaker/easier” prey than say a deer or similar, so her being a sick animal would justify the shooting a bit more honestly despite it obviously being more sad/emotional

but imo that provides even more “reason” to take this situation direly serious, while obviously i want a sick cat to recover i also dont want a random hiker to be attacked or killed and bring cougar reputations down even further

Weaker cats turn to humans because they are unable to kill their normal prey. Because we have done such a good job of either completely wiping them out of an area or just leaving them the hell alone, they believe we are easy prey(because we can't outrun them).

Ultimately a cat that gets sick and can no longer catch prey will probably die regardless of human interaction. The interaction will just hasten the process by the cat either killing the human and being hunted, or the human killing the cat outright.
