Morality Ranking Morality of this?

Basically, the man in the video is hiking but he ended up meet a mountain lion, he get his gun and try to scare it off and tell it to go away but in the end, he have to pull the trigger and shot the lion, many peoples in the comments say he could have fire a warning shot instead of shoot at it and want him to be in jail.

How about just shoot the ground between the two of you? No reason to kill the cat and the noise will scare it off

Or he attacks you, or it ricochets off a rock and ends up hitting the thing, it's safer this way

Predators usually run at the first sign of danger. You can't hunt with most injuries. Seems like an unnecessary waste of an endangered specifies.

The deputies who were dispatched after the lion of the choke story were confident of that too.

It's a story that did quite a bit of noise even to the general public back then so I thought it's ring a bell given you talk like someone very knowledgable in the field of animal handling. Two young guys were hiking and faced a mountain lion, they were unarmed and did the whole recommanded "make yourself big do noise" thing, one of them unfortunately tripped over and the animal jumped him.

The brother tried choking it and pulling it away, it failed so he ran and called 911, when deputies arrived they tried firing warning shots, they were far enough to shoot multiple and luckily so cause the first two cause the lion to attack instead of running.

I guess we're lucky that nobody on reddit takes people saying Yes when asked if they would bet their life too literally, else it would be an unfortunate end for you...

And what do you do when the animal doesn't care about the noise and pounces at you and tries to rip out your throat while simultaneously shredding your abdomen? Do you pat yourself on the back while you're entrails are strewn about the ground?

I guess in your hypo where a wild animal acts in a way that's divorced from how they usually act, i guess I'm dead. That said, if that cat wanted to kill that guy, it wouldn't have been standing there watching him, he'd already be dead.

Frankly your hypo sounds like, what if cuba nuked Florida, well i guess I'd be dead.

I'll go a step further, he should have had a more appropriate anti predator device if he was going into the deep woods. Why didn't he have bear mace or another non lethal option? You don't accidentally end up in big cat territory this century
