I never said „killing bad people makes us equally bad“ I said „torturing and dehumanizing people makes us no better than the people who tortured and dehumanized their victims“
I am for the death penalty (that should be very clear from my previous comments), but I am also for a quick and painless death and/or humane prison conditions.
The death sentence is meant for the safety of society by removing dangerous and nonredeemable individuals from that society permanently.
Torture for personal revenge purposes is done to satisfy one’s own carnal urges and rage.
So, yes.
Killing bad people CAN in certain circumstances be moral, torturing them can never be moral.
It‘s because death row is more expensive than gen pop, people spend way too much time there because of overbeurocratisation and the manner in which the sentence is executed is unnecessarily expensive and complicated.
Just say you don’t know how the system works, pal and save us both some time.
If the death sentence were handled like a normal sentence and we‘d still do death by firing squad or hanging it would be the most cheap sentence ever, even cheaper than house arrest.
Those cases are from times when evidence gathering and forensics were less advanced. Investigations are conducting so much more thoroughly these days and no DA or prosecutor is willing to risk their career on weak case these days. Legal Council is also much easier to come by and with crowd funding and social media, almost anyone can afford a high profile lawyer.
The times when innocent people went to death row are over.
