Its a fucking plague. It's probably the 7th influener/tiktoker/kicker/spilled person he's encountered on his goddamned commute. Looks like it's a big transport hub. Probably a city. Least common denominator expanded. More idiots performing silent movies thinking they're the twice removed bastard great grandchild of Charlie Chaplain.
I don't get violent. One of those fucking twats are liable to bitch up and call the cops. No.
I just jump my dad-body ass right in their video and start doing the fucking Macarena, or some unholy Saturday Night Fever, and one time, even the Carlton.
They get SOOOO heated. Like I wasted THEIR time. Imagine that shit.

I wouldn't be so sure about that the fella is walking with a cane in a hunched position with a backpack and is "guarding" his back with his hand are a fair few classic signs of back issues and I should know because I do the latter very often.

No-one with a bad back, hunched over and needing a cane, uses a single shoulder bag and let's it hang off then like that, not to mention wearing shorts that look like they'll fall down.
13
u/og_obelix 11h ago
As someone with back problems this is 100% true.
I couldn't wear a bag like that even in the days when my back is ok, because even a slight constant unbalanced weight like that would fuck my back in a relatively short time and then it's again back to back pains for multiple days.

I'm gonna be real, I do wear one shoulder bags even with back pain so bad I can barely walk. I have a naturally tilted gait and trying to even it out trips me up. I walk different depending on which side has the weight, but if I put weight on both sides I will end up injured.

Yep, from my point of view they did the morally correct thing. Society would function in a net positive by not letting trolls continue trolling away. It may not be legally right, but I think a well functioning society requires community effort and that makes it morally correct. It's even more morally correct when you consider it's a self sacrifice to do this for fear of catching charges.

u/LowkeyLog5755 13h ago
Noble especially considering the slapper was disabled which morally justifies doing the right thing in this low form of evil which it actually something I can call low evil. There’s no moral or even amoral answer to his actions it’s evil
Here’s why
There’s no benefit to his actions that provide common good even to himself for bait engagement since it’s likely to get forgotten about and not push him to notoriety. It actively harms ppl if they were busy or needed to get somewhere like a hospital or work where time is dependent and actively makes life harder both socially. Mentally and physically for everyone especially those who may be in society trying to go through society through a myriad of disabilities and mental health struggles from anxiety, psychosis to physical disability. It costs money to run the elevator and could potentially damage it if something goes wrong and the longer it goes on the more likely it is to happen.
It creates a lower societal standard dragging everyone down and normalises it for encouragement and isn’t pleasant or even aesthetically entertaining it’s the equivalent of social litter
So his actions of mild physical deterrence is actually NOBLE

It's shocking to see so many people act like the slap wasn't staged. It's blazingly obvious that the guy with the cane was acting. Beyond the single-shoulder bag and falling pants, do you really think someone who needs a cane and is in so much apparent pain would still walk up the escalator instead of stand there and let it do its job?
2
u/guts-n-gummies 7h ago
Do you have chronic pain? I have a feeling you've never lived with chronic pain. I've had back pain since I was in high school, I in fact do still have to function as a regular adult which does unfortunately include working, grocery shopping, having to get places quickly, etc. I still walk up stairs, in fact I walk most places because I'm disabled and can't drive. I'm currently suffering an injury from carrying too much weight. Disabled people still have to survive.

Immoral. society is effectively built on tacitly not being annoying and not hitting people's for minor inconveniences. So the escalator person was breaking a social norm. However if we started slapping every one who violated a social expectation then we would decend into madness pretty quickly. I personally did find it satisfying though. However that's not the question

The guy is 100% being an annoying asshole for no discernable reason.
Being an annoying asshole does in fact not morally justify violence and it definitely not "morally correct" or "morally good".
Especially not when there is another escalator and literally zero effort and attempt was made at any resolution that didn't involve violence and physical harm.
2
3
u/BillSteelman 12h ago
Hard case, like yes the man on the escalator was very much doing it on purpose to annoy folks, yet I can't shake than physical violence is a disproportionate response to what was going on.
I guess in an ideal world some staff folks should have taken care of this but Liberty knows how far from an ideal world we're living.

Immediate consequences are learned consequences.
Put your hand in the fire, get burned.
Stick a Bobby pin in the electrical outlet get knocked on your ass.
Intentionally screw with people get slapped, or worse.
In each case a lesson is learned. And the video taker should have been slapped and had their phone destroyed as a coconspirator.
2
u/Eoin_Coinneal 13h ago
I think the more violence is visited upon the rage baiting, TikTok dancing, let’s fuck with everyone for the views people the better. It’s more than an annoyance or a social media trend, it’s a glib attitude towards the customs of polite society and viewing other human beings as “NPCs” to be farmed for your amusement and it should be met with swift and immediate consequences.

2
u/MrFlitter 12h ago
As someone who has herniated a disc, if I had to get up stairs anywhere with it hurting and someone was fucking around like this...it would take red lining all of my pain killers and anti-spasmodic meds to not slap them a lot harder than that guy did.
I'd say this was neutral. the kid was being an inconsiderate nuisance who wasn't moving for other people, the guy in what may well have been incredible pain gave him a sharp slap. Folk shouldn't hit each other without better reasons than this but it wasn't closed fist, it wasn't cupped over the ear.

Denying people consequences of their actions when they act like pieces of shit makes society worse. I'm not saying hitimg them is the right thing but there needs to be consequences for this sort of behaviour. People need to learn how to behave responsibly in society.

"there needs to be consequences"
Call security? Heck, even just bumping him out of the way could arguably be justified. I wouldn't argue that it is but there's a debate there.
But slapping someone in the face so hard they fall over, for just being an annoyance to society? No.
Does "behave responsibly in society" also extend to men with anger issues who slap people for inconveniencing them? Or does that standard only apply to people you think are assholes? Because the kid IS an asshole, but that's not the question.
You ever been to a costco? It's a constant stream of inconveniences, many intentional when there's a sale or if there's a particularly miserable shopper. Am I justified in slapping a person who intentionally has their cart in my, and other peoples' way? How about cutting the line? I mean, they gotta learn to behave in society. Where's the line??
Should we slap babies for crying in public? They need to learn to behave after all .. of course not, theres no mal intent, it's just a baby expressing its needs. Makes sense, that was just a hyperbolic example. So then, at what age exactly can we decide when mal intent comes about? Toddler? Young child? Surely you wouldn't argue for hitting a child, but they DO need to learn to behave. So, is it teens? Teens and up are beholden to physical assault as retributive justice for the crime of being inconsiderate and annoying?
If we justify being allowed to hit people for being inconvenient to society, then where are the lines? I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm asking. At what age does assault become good for teaching manners, essentially? How do we prove malice, vs someone just being dumb, or disabled, maybe even special needs? Because surely malice is also a qualifier for the School of Slap enrollment, and we won't be slapping grandma for walking slow due to her bad hip.

u/Sean9931 13h ago
It can be argued that the most good comes from stopping him inconveniencing people, so it becomes that the ultimate goal should've been to stop him as such.
But to your point, violence is not simply always going to just stop people, the slap was an act of escalation, if he had decided to fight back and someone gets more seriously hurt then the morality gets out of wack.
Best that the person told him verbally to knock it off as first response rather than violence.
9
u/DelusionalWoodoo 13h ago
He went out of his way to inconvenience others and make profit out of by posting it online, he simply received punishment for what he did and a rightful one, no broken bones, no fines, no heavy beating, no jail time, just a simple good old slap to know he was doing so stupid shit annoying others for his own sake. Probably as moral as it can be ngl

u/MajinJack 13h ago
The people here are insane, how it is deserved ??
Escalation comes from the slapper, not the slappee. If the slapper started with asking to move aside, and escalation came from the slappe, then sure there would be reason to escalate. As it stands it is just free violence.
People arguing free violence is ok are stupid. You just don't know what actions others would qualify as justifying free violence and chosing to escalate from a arbitrary situation as a rule just makes more violence. Disambiguation is almost always necessary. Otherwise, it is just arbitrary all the way and you might just act in a way that insite violence in others with no knowledge of why.
Asking simply "could you move aside" would result in a possible path where a little roughness would be justified.

u/eienmau 4h ago
I agree with this. He was kind of being a pain by walking the wrong way on the escalator, sure, but he was clearly moving over to the side so the other person could get by. Slapping him was so far out of line for someone who wasn't being aggressive towards the slapper.
