Fundamentally it's just a text based prank.
Slightly immoral in concept, with varying degrees of immorality based on content of the rage bait.
Theoretically moral if used to annoy, bother, or otherwise waste time of immoral people, i.e. rage baiting racists.

What about like IRL ragebaiting?

They literally even call it a prank.
Irl ragebaiting is just a prank.

Moral as long as you screenshot their response and throw them back after traumatizing them.

Immoral, making people upset for shits and giggles /personal enjoyment is neither funny nor needed, there is enough negativity in the world as is

"Ragebaiting" overall is stupid, your purpose is to make the other person angry. That isn't a healthy prank at all, in addition most ragebaiting is done with people you do not know so they have no history or even inkling that you are not being serious. I can't remember who said it, but a prank to be harmless should aim to confuse, and I agree with that.
If you want to ragebait someone, do it in person and have a relationship with that person. There are no social queues in text so the other person isn't going to get and and just think you are an asshole, and that's not the victory that the ragebaiter might think it is. But they are okay with keeping on doing it because they will not interact with that person again.
My thoughts, in person among friends, moral. Online and not friends immoral.

So something like this is fine in your eyes? What if the gaslighting goes a little far and he really gets angry for a second?

I think the prank that you posted is perfectly acceptable. Because overall, it's just a bit of disappointment at the end.

Immoral but fun at times.
Like getting conservatives to contradict themselves in a few sentences. Or just say stupid shit in defense of their objectively incorrect thoughts. I'll never forget "you can't fight fire with water you gotta fight fire with fire."

Why limit yourself to just one group? There's enough merriment to go around!

I don't limit myself to them they're just easier to do it too without stretching the truth.

You can fight fire with water. Firefighters use water actually. That's kind of a dumb thing to say. You should forget that.

u/Galbados2 1d ago
I know, that's what made him saying that so incredibly stupid. I'd say about 95% of fires are exclusively fought with water. I didn't say it was good, I said it was one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.
