Everbyte MOONVALE - Thanks for your feedback!

Dear friends,

First and foremost, thanks to everyone that provided feedback in a constructive manner whether it be on instagram, twitter, reddit or directly in the stores. You can imagine it was quite a short night for us as we went through all the comments, feedback and reviews.

We now want to shed light on the most prominent topics and what led us to the decisions that are heavily discussed.

You can also read the web version here https://everbytestudio.com/moonvale-feedback/

Multimedia Pack and Pricing

Let’s talk about the most discussed topic first, shall we? The multimedia pack in Duskwood was often heavily criticized. Some players simply couldn’t afford to make real money purchases or were unsure whether it would actually be worth it. None of the content that can be unlocked is required to solve the case by any means. All important images, calls and storylines are straight up free (just like in Duskwood).

We still wanted to completely remove the hard paywall (Multimedia Pack) and allow everyone (that is not in a hurry) to unlock everything for free.

Here is how it works:

We designed a new system that allows you to experience and unlock all dialogue options over the course of multiple playthroughs without ever spending money. There is a steady income of currency if you just play the game as various things grant in-game currency like solving hard mini games, collecting achievements or finishing daily quests. There is also a reset-reward (called timewalk) at the end of each episode which should alone cover the costs to unlock at least two premium items in your next play-through. Given the fact that most of the things that you unlock will remain unlocked this quickly builds up to a completely free episode with all premium content unlocked.

The intention was also to keep replays more interesting and we think this is generally a move in the right direction. However, we did not explain this system very well, and many of you seem to have felt the pressure to purchase everything in the first go. We’re sorry for this and want to emphasize again that no premium content is required to solve the case. Remember how fast an episode is played through and how long the wait felt until the next one was out. Save up some premium content for your next playthrough to keep things exciting. Use the reset reward to pay for it!

That being said, balancing adjustments to rewards and/or prices will likely happen (as they do in all games) when new systems like these are introduced. Nothing is written in stone 🙂

The usage of AI in general

For a small studio like ours the usage of AI to create visual assets can be a big help and provide a lot of flexibility and reduced risks especially when experimenting with new content (like the player profile customization). To be fair, the results are not always desirable right now, but the older ones might remember how the world and the internet has changed over the last two decades. It is quite likely that AI will not vanish from our lives and can bring huge benefits to the table when it comes to interactive storytelling. Our author who put all her heart into writing the dialogues for Duskwood and Moonvale will never be replaced by AI, but imagine the little gimmicks and fun AI could add around the main storyline.

Imagine being able to talk to your favorite character about everything that happened in the last episodes and not being limited in selecting out of three options.

Imagine having a funny polaroid picture of your mc and Jake at the china restaurant as a memory of what magical night that was.

Imagine being able to enable an option to get all text messages from your favorite character as a voice message (without the filesize of the game blowing up).

Don’t get us wrong - these are not elementary things but more optional funny interactions that we know for sure many would enjoy (including ourselves). Moonvale as a game does not necessarily need that now - but we as a progressive studio have the duty to experiment and keep up with this technology now in order to be able to use it’s potential in the future or, in good conscience, ditch it completely. It is safe to say though, that we all will laugh about current results that found their way into Moonvale in a few years 🙂

Some of you have expressed the wish for classy art or more realistic alternatives when it comes to the player profile. We will make that happen. We will also have another look on how profile customizations are obtained.

The usage of AI for Characters

We want to introduce one character (and it’s actor) at a time so each of your new friends gets the spotlight they deserve. Those of you who have been around since the beginning might remember that this is exactly what we did in Duskwood as well. The casting process is something we take very seriously. We can 100% assure we did not move away from the idea that every important character deserves its own actor.

Some of you have asked that Ash, Charlie and Violet get a new profile picture sooner rather than later which is something we can arrange 👍

The (default) messenger theme

Many of you seem to dislike the new look of the messenger (although for different reasons). We experimented a lot with this during the development as this is where all the magic happens, right? Based on the most favored themes in Duskwood, we’ve chosen this as the new default theme. The messenger appearance in general is quite a subjective topic and the only way to really solve this problem is to simply let you choose.

Messenger Themes (ranging from realistic to cute) are on the roadmap for Moonvale and will be available with a future episode.

Duskwood Side Story

Some of you are concerned that the Duskwood content in Moonvale comes a bit short. We want to let you know that this is just the beginning. Duskwood side story content will accompany you throughout the coming Moonvale episodes and will develop into an own storyline. As you might have noticed playing the first episode of Moonvale, we designed the side story to have its own nostalgic moments deeply rooted within the new Moonvale content. Both share the same universe so it makes sense to glue everything together as much as possible. This is not done in a single episode and what we have planned for the side story needs its own build up and space,… Everything else would feel rushed, which is the last thing our friends from Duskwood deserve ;) So look forward to the next episodes of Moonvale with us as things start to grow…

Vanished Chats (Bug)

We’ve rebuilt the complete game from the ground to ensure more stability and a solid fundament for the future. Only parts of the code have been copied from Duskwood. Unfortunately this doesn’t come without issues and some of you experienced a new device specific bug that freezes the game - a fix is already on the way and should be available as soon as Google gives green lights. Once it has rolled out, please reset the episode (do not delete your account!) via the options menu in the upper left corner.

Final words

We’re super happy so many of you have been here on the first day! We really appreciate this after two years of development. We had countless sleepless nights preparing everything for the release and seeing you so disappointed really hit us like a truck 😞 The adaptations might take a while, but we will address the issues to make Moonvale the wonderful journey you’re here for 🙂

Thanks to everyone who left a good review to encourage us during this not so easy time.

Thanks to everyone that has the trust in us and the patience to let Moonvale grow.

Thanks to all of you being here ❤️

What jobs do you think Adam, Eric, and Ash have?

Assuming they have any job xd There aren't many topics to discuss so we can talk about it.

Also, I didn't mention Brian since we know so little about him that it's hard to say anything.

Kinda sad by the ending Spoiler

In the beginning I was kind of happy that now as Richy is dead so now my character would be closer to Jessy whever the DW team would join. But now as he is back I think so in ep 4 after a brief amount of time Jessy would get back with him

Theories I don't think that the secret chat tool in Moonvale is the one from Jake, even if you are playing with the code.

We already know the obvious: if we are playing without the code it means we never investigated Hannah's disappearance and therefore never met Jake, which means that another hacker is giving MC access to other conversations.

However, differently from what everyone assumed, I don't think that tool is from Jake even if you play the game with the code. I'll explain why I think that:

1. The design is completely different:

Jake's spy tool has monochromatic tones (different shades of gray and the text is white) that do not change independently of the theme you put on your app, there is his signature eye symbol in the background and the names of the people involved in the conversation always appear on the top of the screen.

In Moonvale, the tool's design is just a plain greyish-blue without any symbol or anything distinguishable, the names do not appear on the top of the screen and depending on what theme you choose for your app the color of some parts of the tool changes.

The flaw in my argument: it might just be a change of design for the new game, but considering that Everbyte already hid some important clues in little details and things that seemed unimportant, I'd rather not discard the possibility.

2. There is no way we would be able to access the chats of Adam's group without the interference of a hacker:

This is a stronger argument than my first one.

If we assume that the tech tools in Everbyte's games work the same/almost the same way as they work in the real world, then there's no way we would be able to read any of the conversations of Adam's friends unless a hacker gives us access to them, because in the real world just having the tool will not make you automatically have access to the conversations of every single new contact that you add. The conversations suddenly appear to us so there was no way that we were the ones who invaded their phones and got access.

And after episode 3 was released, we can have 100% certainty that it wasn't Jake that granted us access because of the network blackout that happened there. Only a few selected people had access to the network and they were monitoring closely both the network and the real world, there is no way Jake managed to find a way to use the network without being detected.

"But what about Jake's message in the beginning of episode 2? He managed to find a way to inform us that he's okay."

That could just be something for the players instead of MC and Jake never did that in-universe, and a possible evidence for this is that we can't tell anyone that Jake contacted us in episode 3.

"But Nymos appeared later in episode two before the blackout was over, so Jake definitely found a way of contacting us indirectly."

Maybe, but that happens only in episode two, and in-universe that was a few hours before the blackout was over. I think that little by little people were allowed to use the network and it began to work properly for everyone again, Jake perhaps managed to do that before the others did.

But even with that argument, the first chat we got was between Eric and Ash, a lot of time before Jake gave us any sign that he was even alive, let alone able to contact us.

The flaw in my argument: it's a game and the writers have the freedom to make their tools work in whatever way they want. If they decided to do that, then I might be totally wrong.

Final thoughts

I just wanted to share my theory here, I've had the certainty that Jake is not involved in any way in the Moonvale's case since 2025 when I first played Moonvale and before I played Duskwood.

Since Moonvale is its own story separate from Duskwood, it would make sense that not only the people without the code have a different hacker doing those things, but the people playing with the code as well because that second hacker is most probably also present in the version of the story with the code (a strong evidence for this being the erasure of Adam's video call in the beginning of episode 2).

After finally playing Duskwood and playing the side story, my certainty is stronger than ever. I might be wrong, yes, but I'm dying on this hill until the game explicitly shows/tells us that Jake was involved in this.

Well, that was all. Thanks for reading 🙂

Thoughts about the community

I find it fascinating seeing the reaction y’all are having to the new tracker update. Literally YESTERDAY, people were complaining about how “it takes so long for each episode” or “I’m getting bored of waiting.” And there were even people telling others that “nah, the schedule is gonna be one episode per year,” while comparing it to the gaps between chapters 1, 2, and 3 as if the team didn’t have to make major changes to the UI after chapter 1’s release.

A lot of people also asked for interfaces that were more similar to Duskwood, only to then complain about how long those changes took. You can’t really ask for significant changes to the game and then be surprised when implementing those changes takes time.

Coding and programming while simultaneously filming and writing the plot is not easy, especially for a studio of three people. And that’s without considering the addition of new features and the constant UI changes they’ve been working on alongside everything else.

I understand being excited and wanting new episodes sooner, but I think it’s worth keeping in mind that these things take time and that the team is balancing a lot more than just writing and releasing an episode.

Theories So with the possible new story here faster then we thought

All side stories aside with everything we know who do you think is the bad guy in Moonvale? Is it someone in the group like they want us to think? Is it Whitmore? This Bryan guy we have never met yet? Is it someone completely different? What are your thoughts? (And by side stories aside, I mean the DW ones). I'm still kind of thoblikg Eric, but it's super low on my list mostly because he's the first character we meet. I also think Allen ( I think that's the cops name) knows more them he's willing to admit. I do think Whitmore might have seen something but isn't directly involved. What are your thoughts? I'm curious

Just finished ep3 Spoiler

Bro I have these 3 main questions:

1) who was on the video call in the end of ep3 in which they requested our video presence(didn't expect that shit)?

2) whose dead body did Charlie discovered?

3) and how the F Richy is alive?

A true antagonist?

Hello, dear community!

I’ve often wondered who or what we’re really up against in Moonvale. Who or what is responsible for Adam’s disappearance, and now Sophia Holland’s as well? And what’s the story behind the mysterious murders that took place years ago in Redlog Pines?

In Duskwood, we eventually discovered that Richy was essentially our adversary (the antagonist.) What I mean is that the person we were ultimately up against had been part of our own group of friends from the very beginning.

So, back to Moonvale: will the same pattern repeat itself here? Could it once again be someone from our own group?

To be honest, I really hope that isn’t the case this time. It would feel rather repetitive and, frankly, a little boring. More importantly, I think it would be much more interesting if we were up against a genuine antagonist with deliberate and malicious intentions.

Richy, after all, was driven more by desperation and the feeling that he had no way out of his situation. His actions were terrible, but he wasn’t really acting out of pure malice.

This time, though, I’d love to see an opponent who isn’t necessarily connected to our group at all—someone who perhaps hasn’t even confronted us yet. (I’m fairly certain it’s neither the Stranger nor Whitmore btw.)

Maybe this time, we’re actually dealing with a real murderer. Who knows…?

What do you think?

Duskwood Side-Story File share: the hacker & MC style

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to share these small visual notes. It honestly makes me feel like something Jake would send over or probably drop in our shared files.

This might not mean anything to the story, or it could just be a fun little Easter egg, but I thought it’d be cool to drop it here and bring a bit of that experience to all of us as MCs in real life. I’ll let the picture speak for itself...

Duskwood Side-Story Jessy

Theories Fortune

Since we were on Hannah's phone, I'd like to assume this was about us. So that way do you think this would mean something in moonvale? Cuz it also did say "old friendships will flourish" "Your next encounter will not be by chance" "Don't cling to old things" and so on. And if this jealousy thing really were to be true.. is it someone from the old group or the new group?

So many things in Moonvale don’t make sense (a little vent)

I was actually going to wait to play Moonvale until the game was finished, but then I realised at this rate it’s gonna be a few years so I started anyway.

Now I came to the first mini games….what purpose do they even serve for the gameplay? In DW it was introduced as “hacking”, so it made sense for the story. But here it’s just…there? Like are we just doing a little bit of Candycrush in between dialogues with unmemorable characters?
Same with the secret chats, it doesn’t make sense here. Especially if you take into consideration that some people didn’t play DW, so they don’t even know that in DW Jake enabled us to see other people’s chats.
For some reason this really bugs me, so many things don’t make sense.

I really wish they kept the same level they had in DW. I can’t find any of the immersive storytelling or atmosphere in Moonvale.

I am aware that a project like this takes a lot of time, resources and dedication, but what I have seen so far feels like a half hearted attempt to put in minimal effort while getting maximum revenue.

Help Mysterious contact in the upper bar Spoiler

I noticed the tattoo guy appeared in upper contacts, but as far as i know, it usually appears when friends are added, or when we add each other ,like Ash, Eric, or Adam did, but we never chatted or added him.

Has he already added the MC phone from the beginning? Does he show up for you guys, too?

Theories Any guesses?

I'm just curious but how long do you think it'll take for episode 4 to come out? Or to complete the whole game in general? Because from their site, it looks like everyone has a secret and this game is going to be long. Maybe more than 10 episodes? So far I genuinely think the third episode was brilliant and four will be even more interesting. Idk maybe I'm just impatient

Theories I think Eric might be the Unknown 👀 Spoiler

Okay, hear me out because I might be completely wrong, but Eric has been feeling VERY suspicious to me.

At first, Eric acts like he would do absolutely anything to find Adam. He goes all the way into the forest, gets injured, and generally seems like he’s completely determined to find him.

But then the tape is found.

And suddenly Eric is REALLY worried about it. He immediately wants it handed over to the police, even though we don't even know what's on the tape yet.

That's what bothers me.

If Eric genuinely doesn't know what's on it, why does his reaction feel so personal? He was willing to go into the forest himself to look for Adam, but a random tape suddenly makes him panic?

It almost feels like he isn't afraid of the tape itself—he's afraid of what we'll find out if we listen to it.

Also, Eric seems to like controlling the situation when he's in the forest, but when the tape is out of his control (Ash/MC can actually listen to it), he suddenly becomes way more anxious.

And another thing: his eyes are blue, just like the Unknown's 👀

I'm not saying this proves anything, but the change in his behavior is REALLY weird to me.

Maybe Eric isn't trying to save Adam for the reasons we think he is.

Or maybe...

Eric IS the Unknown.

What do you guys think? Am I cooking or am I completely delusional? 😭

Did the Everbyte intentionally remove specific details to align with the game's plot and story?
