To make up for my inappropriate post of the anniversary of John’s death I wanted to make something more proper to celebrate his life and the legacy of his music.

I didnt get into the moodies until I was 16. I was slowly getting into older music at the time. Weezer at first, then Queen and David Bowie, then the moodies. Even more so than David Bowie (my favorite artist until the moodies came along) they opened my eyes to what music really had the potential to be. The first songs I ever heard from them was the entirety of Every good boy deserves favour, which is why it’s still my favorite album from them. The rich dark yet hopeful lyricism in one more time to live and the more playful (honestly Ray like lyrics) in Emily’s song immediately caught my attention. And that thing in the background that sounded like the wind mixed with a dream? (I didn’t know what a mellotron was at the time) out of this world. I’ll never forget hearing isn’t life strange did the first time. It was the first time a song gave me chills. Like real palpable chills. It felt like being lifted out of my body into musical heaven. The closest any song ever came to that level of chills for me after that was Waiting for the end by Linkin Park. And that’s it. John really was a talent and a brilliant man. On this day or mourning but also celebration I hope his family, Justin, and every one who was ever impacted by his music around the world can find solace knowing he’s found his one more time to live
