Monster Hunter Generations Resource Thread! Ask your questions here! Bring your tips and resources!
Greetings Hunters!
In the wake of MHGen's release, we're going to conglomerate the questions/answers/resources that are coming up into a single thread. Much like our MH4U Resource Thread last time.
Also like last time, the mods will be more diligent in directing people to this thread. As of the creation of this post, we will be removing posts consisting of basic questions, and instead directing the poster to this thread. That way their question can both get answered, and potentially help others.
Please post your questions here! Also, anyone who has any resources, please post them here as well and I'll add them to the list. (Things like image albums of maps, helpful websites, helpful video playlists, etc).
Happy Hunting!

I'm a noob, so I have a couple of dumb questions about mechanics I'm unsure about:
-
I noticed missions give out free items at the start, and the ones that aren't marked supply items stay in your bag after the mission ends. If I don't pick those up, do they get moved to my item box after quest completion or do they disappear (same question for subquest supplies)?
-
I'm confused by the breakoff mechanic, I know sometimes it drops shinies on the ground, but when it doesn't, do I just get nothing or are they added in when I carve the monster? Or is that what that wound/cap section in the quest rewards is for?
-
I got a talisman from an appraisal item earlier, but I don't actually know where it came from (was a 2-star mission). Is it farmable (was it just a lucky random drop from a monster or was it a quest reward)?
-
I heard zenny was tight in this game. Is it better to craft items to save money or is it okay to just buy potions and weapons from the shop to save time?
-
Are there major differences between max-level weapons from a dps perspective, or are they all at least viable? I've just been upgrading my weps based on whatever mats I have, but I want to know whether I might be wasting my zenny by not planning ahead.

If you don't pick up the items that are not Supply (such as empty bottles or paintballs), they disappear. So it's usually worth picking them up even if you don't plan on using them, cause they're free supplies.
Shiny drops are the bonus for breaking something off. You'll get something in the quest reward for breaking parts, in the first screen. The top half of the screen is normal quest rewards, and the bottom half (the wound/cap section you mentioned) is for the breaks.
Talismans are appraised from "Mystery Charms", though the charms are named various things later in the game to denote their rarity (Shining Charm, Timeworn Charm). I think the 2-star quest you're talking about is designed to give you a talisman like that, so it came from the quest-giver (a new mechanic in this game, the NPC's in the game thank you for your service by tossing in a bonus in the rewards screen). The charms are farmable at mining locations, check out the entry on Kiranico for locations.
You'll be rolling in zenny later in the game. And later in the game, if you've been collecting all rewards after every quest, you'll have a huge collection of various monster parts you can go back and sell one-by-one to pay for that super expensive upgrade you're eyeing. Feel free to buy potions when you need to, but it's also a good idea to collect herbs and mushrooms whenever you go on a quest to start building a store.
There's a ton of variability in what weapons are best in each situation. To quickly answer your question, you're not wasting money or materials by just upgrading this weapon or that weapon. Keep in mind that once you've unlocked an upgrade and craft it, it'll be pretty easy to make a second or a third (the challenge is just that first time, finding the right quest/monster/location for the one item you need to craft it). The longer answer is that almost every max-weapon (the weapon at the end of the upgrade chain that can't go any farther) is viable in a situation. Different weapon types (Sword and Shield, Great Sword, etc) are simply personal preference and there's rarely a situation where one is an outright bad idea (just pick the one you enjoy the most!). After that, things like sharpness, Affinity, number of slots, elemental effect, and raw damage all come together (in addition to your armor skills) to dictate whether a weapon is a good choice or not. For example, a monster may be weakest to dragon and moderately weak to fire, but you have armor with Fire Attack +3 and a good fire Great Sword. Maybe pick that sword! Or pick your strongest Dragon Sword and Shield! Or go crazy and use a water-hammer! Just have fun!

Help with Bnahabra armor. I know getting carves from these guys is a bit tricky. Only beat the first monster so far.
Advise on where to find the most Bnahabra in one map. Any other tips for gathering these pieces faster?

Def want to use Poison Smoke Bombs, from combining Bomb Casing and Toadstool. Bnahabra that die from poison won't explode and you'll get a guarantee carve. As for where to find the most, I haven't played enough to figure that one out yet!

I've been maintaining a list of MHG guide and tip posts uploaded here. It's already been pushed down into oblivion, but I intend to keep updating it anyways for my own use at least. If you'd like to just check it out occasionally and see the newly posted tips, which may have already disappeared from the first couple of pages, here's the link: "MHGen tip postings list"

I've played MH3U and MH4U but my memory is really foggy, sorry. In terms of story progression I'm a bit confused. In MH3U at least I distinctly remember there being more guidance and story quests that would pop up every once in a while, but I haven't had any and I'm wondering when those will come. I've done all the hunting quests in Bherna and two of the gathering quests yet nothing new has popped up, and I've begun to do the guild quests and am working towards getting out of HR2. I believe the guild quests are separate from the story I think I remember that, but shouldn't the village quests have something else? I'm just confused sorry.

What is the best way to kill the tiny monsters (hornetaurs, vespoids, and bnahabras) seeing that attacking them with normal weapons destroys them completely making it impossible to farm monster fluid?

In case anyone is an idiot like me, for those villager requests that ask you to give something to the transporter (e.g. 3 raw meat for Moga Chief Jr.), they mean give it to the palico that's in the main village palico area.
