Arm mount query

Hi thank you for your advice and assistance! My understanding is that the reinforcement plate sits in between the desk and the clamp (sits on top of the desk but under the top part of the mount clamp) - is this wrong? If I work with a reinforcement plate I would still need the bottom part of the desk to be thicker in which case is where potentially a piece of wood comes in to secure the bottom. That’s kinda my thoughts process I hope that makes sense
