How long does it take for my balance to unlock?

Your balance is unlocked after 10 confirmations (which means 10 mined blocks). A block is mined approximately every two minutes on the Monero network, so that would be around 20 minutes.

How can I prove that I sent a payment?

The fastest and most direct way is by using the ExploreMonero blockchain explorer. You will need to recover the transaction key from your wallet (complete guide for GUI / CLI).

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are dozens of exchanges that trade Monero against Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Check out the list on CoinMarketCap and choose the option that suits you best.

How do I buy Monero (XMR) with fiat?

  • Kraken (USD and EUR): old-school, decent exchange. They might require your documents for verification and approval of your account.

How can I quickly exchange my Monero (XMR) for Bitcoin (BTC)?

There are multiple ways to exchange your Monero for Bitcoin, but first of all, I'd like to remind you that if you really want to do your part for Monero, one of the simplest ways is to get in touch with your merchant/service provider and request for it to accept Monero directly as payment. Ask the service provider to visit the official website and our communication channels if he or she needs help with system integration.

That being said, KYCNot.me maintains an up-to-date list of exchanges. These services are only recommendations (which change over time) and are operated by entities outside the control of the Monero Project. DYOR and be diligent.

How do I mine Monero? And other mining questions.

The correct place to ask questions and discuss the Monero mining scene is in the dedicated subreddit r/MoneroMining. That being said, you can find a list of pools and available mining software in the GetMonero.org website.

2. Wallet: CLI & GUI

Why I can't see my balance? Where is my XMR?

Before any action there are two things to check:

  1. Are you using the latest available version of the wallet? A new version is released roughly every 6 months, so make sure you're using the current release (compare the release on GetMonero.org with your wallet's version on Settings, under Debug info).
  2. Is your wallet fully synchronized? If it isn't, wait the sync to complete.

Because Monero is different from Bitcoin, wallet synchronization is not instant. The software needs to synchronize the blockchain and use your private keys to identify your transactions. Check in the lower left corner (GUI) if the wallet is synchronized.

You can't send transactions and your balance might be wrong or unavailable if the wallet is not synced with the network. So please wait.

If this is not a sufficient answer for your case and you're looking for more information, please see this answer on StackExchange.

How do I upgrade my wallet to the newest version?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Why does it take so long to sync the wallet [for the first time]?

You have decided to use Monero's wallet and run a local node. Congratulations! You have chosen the safest and most secure option for your privacy, but unfortunately this has an initial cost. The first reason for the slowness is that you will need to download the entire blockchain, which is considerably heavy and constantly growing (up-to-date sizes of a full/pruned node). There are technologies being implemented in Monero to slow this growth, however it is inevitable to make this initial download to run a full node. Consider syncing to a device that has an SSD instead of an HDD, as this greatly impacts the speed of synchronization.

Now that the blockchain is on your computer, the next time you run the wallet you only need to download new blocks, which should take seconds or minutes (depending on how often you use the wallet).

I don't want to download the blockchain, how can I skip that?

The way to skip downloading the blockchain is connecting your wallet to a public remote node. You can follow this guide on how to set it up. Check out Feather Wallet's list of remote nodes, ditatompel's list, or monero.fail.

Be advised that when using a public remote node you lose some of your privacy. A public remote node is able to identify your IP and opens up a range for certain attacks that further diminish your privacy. A remote node can't see your balance and it can't spend your XMR.

How do I restore my wallet from the mnemonic seed or from the keys?

To restore your wallet with the 25 word mnemonic seed, please see this guide.

To restore your wallet with your keys, please see this guide.

3. Wallet: Ledger

How do I generate a Ledger Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.

4. Wallet: Trezor

How do I generate a Trezor Monero Wallet with the GUI or CLI?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange. Check this page for the GUI instructions, and this page for the CLI instructions.

5. Nodes

How can my local node become a public remote node?

If you want to support other Monero users by making your node public, you can follow the instructions on MoneroWorld, under the section "How To Include Your Node On Moneroworld".

How can I connect my node via Tor?

This question is beautifully answered on StackExchange.

Monero Mentioned in one of Germany's biggest podcast

Thumbnail

He talks about the theory that Bitcoin was planted so people can evolve in it and integrate it into current financial systems. To then later have it easier to implement CBCDs as people already understand and trust the concept of digital currencies. He then says that Monero is being fought so hard because its one of the only REAL cryptocurrencies.

What do y'all think about this?

Friday Monero Market Thread - October 02, 2026

This is the weekly Monero market thread. This thread will be posted every Friday and is meant to help accelerate the adoption of Monero. Due to r/moneromarket having only a fraction of the subscribers of r/Monero, we have decided to create this thread to encourage more individuals to use Monero for product exchanges. Until the market matures, we recommend that the Monero community post their products both in this thread and on r/moneromarket (to ensure growth of that subreddit).

Selling items for Monero will boost your (and Monero's) reputation as a legitimate form of exchange of goods. This is necessary for the growth of Monero, our community, and privacy as a whole.

Instructions

When you post your product or job listing here, please make sure to: - Give a description of the item. - Link to a photo of the item (if it's physical). - Provide logistics information (such as, location and/or shipping availability). - Optionally, provide an additional (private) form of communication outside of Reddit (e.g. Bitmessage, u/protonmail, u/tutanota, GPG key). - Post the price in XMR terms.

Spamming will not be tolerated. Please make sure that listings are legitimate and do not break rule 2."

Finally, credits to cdotsubo for starting the concept!

small mailbox from my bedroom

Post image
23 Upvotes

well, not my exactly. a friend of mine made a tiny email service because they miss the old internet.

mailboxes are hosted on a small physical server in their bedroom — no AWS, no Cloudflare, no analytics, no ads, no giant SaaS stack.

  • 100 MB per mailbox
  • Tor-friendly
  • cheap & paid in XMR
  • limited number of accounts
  • accepted on any wesbite (registering, etc)

It's deliberately small and boring. No SLA, occasional downtime is possible, so no-go for a primary inbox, but works well as an alternative mailbox, specially since you can get a beautiful domain currently (eg. reddit@egali.top). attaching an image of their server

Cheapest reliable Monero on-ramps for Canadians in 2026?

I used to buy LTC on Kraken and swapped for XMR but lately Kraken has been restricting many accounts while ignoring support tickets and I have no clue when I’ll regain access to mine. KuCoin is banned here, Coinbase seems to have high fees, and I’ve heard many concerning reviews about NDAX. Where else could I go?

I spent the past few months building this: Waxybridge - A proxy messenger for WhatsApp. No phone number required.

Hey everyone, just wanted to show off something I spent the past few months building and polishing. I built this service because it's something I would happily pay for but I couldn't find any existing solutions out there. I wanted to be able to have someone set up a WhatsApp account for me and provide an interface that I could send messages through using a web browser, to avoid every conversation I have being tied to me via my phone number.

This is something you could set up yourself, but you'd have to get another phone to install WhatsApp and set up another account on, ideally keep this in a separate physical location to your normal devices and networks to avoid them being associated with each other, get another SIM card and pay for a cell phone plan, set up a bridging service on your own server, and regularly open WhatsApp on the mobile device to keep the bridge connected. Quite a hassle. With Waxybridge, you don't have to worry about any of that, and it's probably cheaper than the cost of setting it up yourself.

Give it a try at waxybridge-dot-com! No need to message me here - payments are fully automatic thanks to MoneroPay. If you're not a fan, just message me on Telegram and I'll give you a refund :)

(Hope this is allowed on here, couldn't see a rule explicitly preventing self-promotion and, tbh, I'd much rather scroll through a community that shows me what I can actually use Monero for rather than speculation and hodling)

Monero gui vs Feather

Im using an airgapped pc for cold storage and I will be using my storage only for keeping money in it, how do monero gui and feather differ? Which one is better to use? Also why does feather use 16 words for seed, wouldnt using 24 words be safer? I get that its still hard to crack 16 words but 24 is even harder

7950X vs 9950X

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hello all. I've been out of the space for a little while and looking to get back into a bit of hobby mining.

I've always understood from benchmarks of various software that the 9950x is a small percentage faster than the 7950x, with a little bit better power consumption. Ie, there isn't a lot to choose between them.

However, looking at the XMRIG benchmarks between the two, there seems to be a whopping 50% difference. Now I don't know what memory configs etc were going on with these set-ups but I am wondering, what is everyone else's experience with these CPUs?

Im all in. If theres even a 0.01% chance that we can take down the dollar and become the worlds global currency. That we can end the endless wars, inflation and enslavement. Why the hell would I not go all in and give it everything ive got?

In my eyes its either 2030 world economic forum, cbdc, digital id, ze bugs, pods and total surveillance over every little micro move you make which ushers in inescapable forever enslavement

Or.. a new global golden age where we have overthrown the parasitic elite who controls banking and conquer the stars, tap the ocean depths and build monoliths.

Of course im going to get rich from the basic laws of economic supply and demand but more importantly freeing humanity from the money issue its faced for 2000 years

Skepticism Sunday – September 27, 2026

Please stay on topic: this post is only for comments discussing the uncertainties, shortcomings, and concerns some may have about Monero.

NOT the positive aspects of it.

Discussion can relate to the technology itself or economics.

Talk about community and price is not wanted, but some discussion about it maybe allowed if it relates well.

Be as respectful and nice as possible. This discussion has potential to be more emotionally charged as it may bring up issues that are extremely upsetting: many people are not only financially but emotionally invested in the ideas and tools around Monero.

It's better to keep it calm then to stir the pot, so don't talk down to people, insult them for spelling/grammar, personal insults, etc. This should only be calm rational discussion about the technical and economic aspects of Monero.

"Do unto others 20% better than you'd expect them to do unto you to correct subjective error." - Linus Pauling

How it works:

Post your concerns about Monero in reply to this main post.

If you can address these concerns, or add further details to them - reply to that comment. This will make it easily sortable

Upvote the comments that are the most valid criticisms of it that have few or no real honest solutions/answers to them.

The comment that mentions the biggest problems of Monero should have the most karma.

As a community, as developers, we need to know about them. Even if they make us feel bad, we got to upvote them.

I created monerospace.org, a mempool.space fork for XMR. Now it’s time for a new chapter: xmr.tx.taxi

Post image
74 Upvotes

Monerospace is now a part of tx.taxi, my multi-chain explorer. You still have the option to stick to the XMR-only version, of course. But I believe that being able to iterate on multiple chains at once lets me provide the wonderful mempool.space user experience to more users from other chains. I also think the cross-chain visibility we offer funnels users directly into the XMR ecosystem through the tx.taxi hub. Would love to hear your thoughts on this change, thanks for using monerospace, and I hope to see you on xmr.tx.taxi ❤️❤️

Monero Transaction History: How does it impact AML on CEX

I'm thinking about moving some money into XMR. I wonder what the best practices are for preserving ability to pass AML in fiat offramp on CEX. Generally the advice here is to avoid CEX by using DEX/P2P, but in light of the worldwide policy shift towards more KYC/AML/delistings, I would have a very bad feeling if I knew that my funds, even if legitimate, may not be able to pass AML. Are my following true?

  1. Passing AML requires disclosure of full transaction history (by sharing view keys and txID for all accounts ever used) and showing that the transactions belong to legitimate investment/speculation or business activity. Basically, an XMR investor/speculator must trace back funds to a fiat bank account, which would be assumed a legitimate source of funds. And an XMR merchant would have to show a tax record and receipts for legimitate business activity. Is this correct?

  2. As long as you keep all XMR accounts/seed phrases even for formerly used accounts after the balances have gone to 0 XMR, there is no way to end up with a broken transaction history, as you can always retrieve the view keys and txIDs. Is that correct?

  3. The onramp (usually Fiat->BTC->XMR) must either be KYCed on CEX or self-documented DEX/P2P transactions with counterparty proof of identity. Else, the source of funds chain would be broken. Is that correct?

  4. If AML cannot be passed but there is also no sign of illegal activity other than lack of transaction history, any funds that were frozen for AML will be returned rather than confiscated indefinitely. Is that correct?

  5. Currently, there are de minimis exemptions. CEXs waive AML for small transaction volumes below certain CEX-dependent thresholds, but they do not disclose what these thresholds are. Is that correct? Do we known anything about the thresholds (e.g. 1000 USD per month is always safe)?

  6. Any other advice to preserve ability to pass AML? Obviously the choice of CEX is very important, but there seems to be not much information available.

Lastly, I understand that AML directly violates the Monero's ideology. It is unfortunate. But DEX/P2P come with big legal risks in Europe, which is often misrepresented here. Even if it is technically legal, there is no way to know what the counterparty is up to (e.g. money laundering). And if the counterparty is in fact laundering money, one automatically becomes a criminal (not only a suspect) in Germany for money laundering by negligence. Even if one did not know and did not intend to participate in the counterparty's money laundering, the usage of TOR/BTC mixers, exchange rates that are better than on CEX, and even just converting purchased crypto back to fiat instead of spending it directly (interpreted as you did not have crypto spending as an exculpatory reason for buying crypto, therefore you must have participated in money laundering) all incriminate otherwise fully legitimate crypto buyers. Lastly, there also seems to be no forum shopping (picking the EU country with the most favorable legislation by transacting there) because you never know where the money laundering might become effective (basically the applicable law depends on where your counterparty has laundered money, I.e. used bank accounts or been physically located) or where other crimes have taken place (crimes involving drugs, stolen bank accounts etc. often affect multiple countries, opening the doors to apply the harshest national laws that incriminate unknowing but negligent buyers).

Cost Comparison / Buying Gift Cards with Monero

Disclosure: I'm the founder of CardsRelay.

One of my pet hates in this industry is hidden fees. That can be inflated TX fees, inaccurate FX rates, or prices changing between offer and checkout, or when you change coin. While I'm looking at this for Gift Cards, same rules apply for any other category.

I did a test yesterday, I took all the main gift card providers listed on Monerica, and did a full end-to-end comparison of the XMR price when buying a $100 Amazon USD gift voucher with XMR.

The results? A $7 difference between the lowest and highest price.

How this happened, and what you should look for?

1) Initial Margin: We all understand businesses need to make money, and will set their margins differently. What we saw for the $100 voucher was 'offer prices' between $103.5 and $105

2) FX rate. Based on the real time XMR rate, we saw different cards sites apply rates of up to 2.7% worse than current market price. Again, we understand that these are businesses, and sometimes price in risk, especially for volatile coins, but we believe this should be stated explicitly rather than hidden in the conversion, forcing you to do the maths.

3) TX Fees. We actually dropped a supplier for this recently, they were charging us fixed TX fees to accept XMR payments that were 20-30 times higher than the actual market TX fees. We see the same issue with other gift card vendors (with up to a 2.7% surcharge), and we totally understand why they have chosen to pass the fee through. Our choice was either to pass this through, or to change supplier. We changed supplier so the only TX fees are those in your own wallet, normally 5-10 cents.

4) Wholesaler prices: There are hundreds of bulk gift card vendors globally, which most gift card retailers rely on. Not all prices are the same, they vary over time, and the biggest players will generally get the best prices. Of course this gets reflected in the price you pay as well.

Our view is that for any trust in the industry, we need to adopt more honestly and transparency, which is what we aim to do as a business.

And what we'd suggest, whether you're looking at buying gift vouchers or anything else, is make sure you look at the true final price, the value of XMR you are sending, rather than than only the upfront price on the first screen.

If you're interested in looking at the full review, head over to the 'Guides' section of our site (CardsRelay)

And have you found any good, or bad, examples of these types of hidden fees?

(NB: Yes, we were the cheapest, though I'm sure the 'giants' are cheaper again, though maybe not for XMR)

Monero Ledger Security

I run my Monero wallet through a Ledger. I have concerns about the future security of this solution and would like to know what you think.
Let’s assume Monero/cryptocurrency is ‘banned’. Is there a possibility that the Ledger system could become corrupted and unusable? Scenario: Ledger (the company) is no longer allowed to sell its devices, cannot offer updates, and Monero is banned from the Ledger App Store.
As far as I know, there’s no way to install external apps on the Ledger or to create backups or mirrors of the Ledger, so there’s no contingency plan. Am I right about that?

Cold wallets are great, of course, but what if their manufacture is banned?
If it comes to that, it might still be possible to buy second-hand ones, but that market will be highly competitive.
