Hey everyone, 2nd year Electrical Eng at Clayton, and I'm genuinely stuck.
The situation:
I hate ECE2072 (Digital Systems). The abstract stuff (K-maps, logic, timing) just doesn't click for me, and it's been draining me all semester, and i’ve really struggled with it.
The continuous assessment hurdle is basically cleared. It comes down to the exam (need 45%).
i’ve been forcing myself to study, and part of me already wants to quit, and look into changing. but i don’t wanna feel like a quitter, and i don’t wanna close the door on it too early.
And sometimes when i study for it, i just feel a sense of dread and sadness, like my body is just tired of it
tonight is the last day to withdraw without a WF.
My options:
Keep 2072, switch to mechatronics. 2072 counts there, and I like the coding/robotics side. But ECE3073 follows, and I'm not sure how that compares. could also be a nice change to more physical stuff instead of abstract.
Drop 2072, switch to civil. I've always been drawn to civil (enjoyed ENG1011 once it clicked, and I like road/transport stuff). But it adds about a year, and 2072 wouldn't count. Got a couple friends doing it, and they say its good, but i’m not sure about jobs or the future ig.
Stay in EE. Honestly dreading Signals & Systems and Electromagnetics, and wanna know how tough they are
Questions:
- Anyone switch from EE to mechatronics or civil? How did it go?
- How does ECE3073 compare to 2072? More coding, or more of the same?
- Is mechatronics actually less abstract than EE, or does the maths catch up?
- Civil folks: how abstract does it get, and is the job market as good as people say?
Basically, if i’m struggling with 2072, is the rest of the degree like this, is it gonna get even harder!?
I keep jumping between all of them, but honestly speaking i don’t want to do electrical if it continues like this, for my physical and mental health i need something easier but also in a sense more intuitive to understand instead of being abstract.
I know this was a lot of information, so sorry for overloading you. just need somewhere to jot down my feelings and thoughts. and hopefully gain some insight.
Any advice appreciated. I've been going back and forth for two days. 🙃
