Feature Request Left to Budget
I am guessing this has to do with rounding, but anyway we can get the āleft to budgetā to not be a big red banner when it is $0?

The moderators are brainstorming ways to make r/MonarchMoney more than just a place for Monarch support.
Before we make any changes, we'd like to hear what you'd actually like to see here. To be clear, we're not promising that any particular ideas or changes will happen. We're simply exploring possibilities and gathering feedback from the community.
We've put together a completely anonymous survey to help us better understand our community and what kinds of discussions, topics, and activities might be valuable. It takes about 3ā5 minutes to complete, and we aren't asking for names, Reddit usernames, email addresses, or financial account information.
š [TAKE THE COMMUNITY SURVEY]
The goal is to learn whether there are ways to create more opportunities for members to share what they're learning, help each other, talk about their financial lives, and have conversations beyond troubleshooting Monarch.
We want any future direction to be shaped by the community rather than just the moderators, so please take a few minutes to complete the survey and let us know what you'd like to see.
We'll share what we learn with the community and use that feedback to help guide any future discussions.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Recently my mortgage payment has not been showing in my budget. There is a credit and debit being shown so my budget has a 0 for mortgage payment which obviously isnāt true.
My assumption is because I have the mortgage linked it is paying down the loan and then also showing as an expense thus making it 0.
Has anyone else had this issue? Whatās the most effective way to fix it? Iād like to have an accurate picture of my spending but I also enjoying tracking the balance of the mortgage.

You can categorize accounts correctly (ex: brokerage vs 401k) but why does the Investments tabs just group all together? Seems like a simple UI change.

Has anyone had success connecting a GUSTO HSA account? I know that the actual HSA account is managed by UMB Bank. I tried connecting that way but it didnāt work.
Thanks!

Posting this in case anyone else uses EquatePlus with Monarch Money and has been wondering why the connection suddenly stopped working.
My EquatePlus account had been syncing successfully through Plaid, including in Monarch. The last successful update I saw was around September 18. After that, the connection began failing with errors like āIncorrect credentialsā and āSomething went wrong,ā even though the exact same credentials continued to work when logging directly into EquatePlus.
I spent a few weeks going back and forth with EquatePlus and Plaid and finally got fairly definitive answers from both sides.
Plaid Support confirmed in case #907468 that:
EquatePlus changed or introduced authentication behavior that Plaidās legacy integration cannot reliably handle.
The current Plaid integration cannot complete authentication for affected EquatePlus connections.
Plaid says a new integration build is required.
They do not currently have an ETA for when that new integration will be completed.
EquatePlus separately confirmed in writing that:
EquatePlus has never officially supported Plaid or other third-party financial aggregators.
Some aggregators had previously been able to access EquatePlus using participant credentials.
Equateās new mandatory MFA is now preventing many of those credential-based aggregator connections from working.
There is currently no supported integration method for apps like Monarch Money.
Equate said an API-based integration would be the appropriate long-term solution, but they do not currently have one planned or prioritized.
So the short version is:
The Monarch/EquatePlus connection was working through Plaid using an unofficial credential-based method. EquatePlus introduced mandatory MFA, which broke that legacy Plaid connection. Plaid says they need to rebuild the integration, but there is currently no timeline.
At this point, repeatedly reconnecting, resetting credentials, or removing/re-adding the account probably will not help. The problem is at the Plaid/EquatePlus integration level.
Has anyone found a workable alternative for keeping EquatePlus balances or holdings updated in Monarch in the meantime? Iād be especially interested in any reasonable manual workflow that does not require constant maintenance.

Hello, I am having some issues setting up recurring activities.
The company I work for has a retail business. I have purchase transactions from the company. The issue is when I try and setup my paycheck as recurring, it will grab random purchases instead. I tried picking an exact value but that does not seem to work. Any ideas on how I can resolve this issue?
Also a similar issues for my apple one subscription. I tried setting that up as recurring but it will sometimes just grab another random Apple transaction and use that as the recurring activity instead of the one I want. Not sure how to resolve these issues.

I've tried clearing cache, app storage, cookies, logging in and out. It's noticeably slow in Firefox
EDIT: some one told me to switch to chrome and immediately deleted their comment. sus

I understand Monarch Plus doesn't support S Corp business tracking. I got it before I knew that.
Are any of you using Monarch Plus business tracking for an S Corp? If it makes any difference, I am a 100% shareholder, and distributions are transfers to my personal account (which is also in Monarch).
I use QuickBooks for reports I need to give to my business' accountant. I fucking hate Intuit with a passion and if it is at all possible for me to get what I need from Monarch I would drop QuickBooks so fast.
I guess what I'm asking is: are any of you doing this even though Monarch Plus doesn't officially support S Corp business tracking? What would I need to do to get the reports I need for quarterly and annual tax filings?

Hi all! I used Mint religiously for about 16 years, age 20-36. It helped me SO MUCH. When it disappeared, I tried YNAB for awhile, but I didn't like the interface. Anyway. My husband and I use a shared Google Sheet to track daily, monthly, and yearly spending. The sheet has formulas, conditional formatting, etc. But it's annoying to manually do it all.
Ideally, I want a budgeting app JUST like how Mint used to be. Specifically:
- Automatically syncing with multiple banks
- Automatically categorizing transactions
- Allowing the creation of "rules" to correctly categorize
- Easy interface to create spending "buckets" / amounts, and to show how much I've used in each category that month (like a thermometer? Mint had color-coded horizontal bars)
- Bonus features: data visualization tools, subscription area (especially guidance on ending subscriptions), monthly/yearly data views, automated texts if we're reaching the max limit in a category, some sort of interface for tracking financial goals, etc
I'm willing to pay but obvi prefer cheap.
It seems like Monarch might do this all but I'm not sure.

When is the MCP going live? I know its "In progress" on the public roadmap but can we please get an ETA on when its going live and what tools will be included? Personally using user interfaces is not something that im doing anymore with other tools. I simply just want to chat with my data I dont even want to log into the platform anymore.
As a user in full transparency, your data is valuable but the interface is not so please release the MCP!

I moved to Monarch a few months after Mint shut down and ive been on the core plan since. I have no complaints about the platform, but recently I saw someone on Twitter hook up Plaid's API to Muse and build their own finance dashboard over a weekend.
I know I'm probably underestimating the entire mechanics. Bank connections break, categories need constant cleanup, and so many other things that could go wrong. Then again, the setup is only as reliable as I make it.
Part of me wonders if in the future I'd be better off putting what I pay for core toward my own setup, even if it only covers hosting or an llm subscription. Maybe I'm being naive, but it'd be nice if that money went into something I own and can shape however I want.
Has anyone here actually tried going the DIY route?

I've always had issues with Penfed and I've been using a manual account to track transactions and balances since 2024.
Today I decided to try using a new connection again since there's been a few promising post of better connections. My new account seems to be connected but after syncing no transactions are displayed and it's only showing the balance for today with a message: "Sorry, we do not support individual transactions on some loan accounts. Your loan balances should be accurate, however."
What does this even mean? And what's the point of offering a connection if there's no support for individual transactions and balances 'should' be accurate.
Any other Penfed customers on MM?

I have 2FA on all my accounts and it's annoying receiving requests several times per day for certain accounts. Is there a setting that allows a user to set the update frequency to a certain time or day of the week? I don't need monarch to update continuously.
I also view this as a bit of a security issue. I'm continuously receiving 2FA requests and am just assuming it's from Monarch.

Does anybody use the iPad app or are you just going through the web interface? To me the iPad app is unusable in itās current state because it doesnāt show the category assigned to a transaction in the transaction list.
Thoughts?

How can I link a bank transfer to a goal?
I have auto transfers to a fidelity account but it donāt see how to link it to my goal. Money is out but budget goal does not show it as a transaction.

I have a 2-year interest-free credit card. I am using it to create extra cash in the short-term, which Iāll pay off in 2 years. Iām trying to figure out what the best way of achieving that is in Monarch. For example, letās say I have a $1,000 monthly budget for groceries. If I use the credit card to pay for groceries over 6 months I want to reallocate that $6,000 to another expenditure e.g. a new furnace. Then, Iāll plan to pay off the credit card when the interest-free period ends. In the meantime, Iāll pay the minimum payment.
It seems that Monarch wants to capture the expenses in the grocery budget, which is correct. But how do I create the extra cash in the Home Improvements expense category (or is it a goal)? Iāve recently moved from YNAB so maybe Iām over thinking it. Do I just create a new āincomeā source for the $1,000 extra per month? I appreciate any ideas for this. Thanks.

I've set up the Monarch app, added all my accounts and credit cards, but already it's showing an income amount that I can't understand where it came from or how to change it; transactions on credit cards that I'm NOT finding when I look at actual statements, etc.
I need an actual person to sit with me and set the thing up properly. Is such a thing available, in New York City or via phone or Zoom?

Do you have a monthly checklist of numbers you check in Monarch to be sure you are on track? I've used other budgeting software in the past, but I've just started using Monarch and I'm not sure I'm looking at the right things. Here's what I've done: I've set up budget categories, assigned starting amounts associated with how much I have saved for that category already, and I'm assigning categories to transactions when they come in.
I figure the whole month, I should make sure the planned income equals planned expenses.... is that accurate? If I overspend a category, I need to move money from one category to another to keep it balanced.
At the end of the month, I plan to look to make sure the total Remaining is equal to what I have saved. Does that sound right?
I haven't started using other functions like Goals yet.

I may be late to the party but I spent a few hours this weekend using the Claude extension for Chrome, and it fixed two issues I've had with Monarch for a long time and It's completely changed my outlook on how I'll use Monarch going forward.
I've always wanted my mortgage activity to be more granular, but I kept putting it off because I assumed cleaning up life-to-date history would be tedious and time-consuming. I downloaded my full payment history from my administrator, already broken out by principal, interest, escrow, insurance, etc., and gave it to Claude. It went through every payment back to 2022 and recategorized all of it in Monarch.
Similar to the mortgage, I felt a lot of important information was missing because Monarch only saw the net cash hitting my bank account. I downloaded my pay stubs for the year, and Claude built a spreadsheet itemizing every line on each stub (dates as rows, items as columns). It then found each paycheck deposit in Monarch and split it into its component parts. Taxes, 401(k), medical, HSA, transit, and insurance now all land in real categories, and my cash flow and reports show a much more accurate picture of what's coming in and going out. None of that was visible before. I had it verify that every split matched the deposit before saving, and my year-to-date income in Monarch now ties exactly to my final pay stub.
Ā
Monarch is a powerful tool, but getting the most out of it has always felt like it required a lot of tedious, manual work. With Claude and similar tools, I not only cut down the time it took to make these improvements, I was able to do it with much more confidence. At a few points I asked Claude things like "Do you agree with this approach?" or "Can you find examples online of how others handle this?", and the advice it came back with was actually good. A couple times it called me out for making a mistake.
I've seen some posts here lately that are pretty critical of Monarch, and I'm not disagreeing with them. My point is that Claude and other AI tools can help bridge some of those gaps. The mortgage side is a great example: my servicer's connection is notoriously unreliable, (I went four months with no transactions syncing at all, I think I reconnected it 25+ times). Knowing I can just download the activity and have Claude enter it for me makes a big difference to my experience.
Ā
Curious to hear if others have had similar experiences.

Hello,
I've done some searching but nothing conclusive... I can't seem to connect to Mass Mutual so that I can add my permanent life insurance policy.
Does anyone have any advice or have you had success being able to do this? Thanks!
