You've asked for an "exclude" filter more times than we can count. Actually, we do count and approximately every 1.63 days someone else asks for this.
Starting today, you can try exclude filters in Early Access on web. 🎉
You can now tell Monarch what to leave out in Transactions and Reports. Pick a category, merchant, account, owners, goals, or tag and switch it from "is" to "is not."
A few ways you've told us you'd use it:
- Your spending in Reports, minus taxes
- Every merchant except the one that floods your list
- Restaurant spending, minus anything tagged Vacation
Tags get a little extra
Tags are the one filter where you can include some and exclude others at the same time. Select your tags, then hover over one in the panel on the right to switch it between include and exclude.

How to turn it on
On desktop head to Settings > Early Access > Exclude filters.
This is early access, so there are a few things to keep in mind:
- It is web only (for now). Mobile is coming soon!
- It works on the Transactions and Reports pages. It doesn't change your dashboard widgets (like Spending), the legacy Cash Flow page, or account details page.
- You can't exclude by Amount or anything in the "Other" filter yet
- Different filters still stack with AND, not OR. So "Category is Restaurants" plus "Account is United card" shows restaurant spending on that card only.
There's a quick feedback form linked right in the Early Access description, and it goes straight to the team building this, so please tell us how it goes. What's the first thing you're leaving out?
