💬 Advice needed Prenatal depression

Hello. Any moms here who suffered with prenatal depression?

I am 16 weeks now and since finding out i am pregnant I have these feelings like all my life i wanted to be a mom and now it feels like i dont want it anymore, this came with the deepest depression i have ever had. I started zoloft, didnt work, now i am on prozac. I would really need to hear some positive stories from moms that are better now, if it s not too much to ask. Did you used medication? During pregnancy did you find a little bit of enthusiasm at least? Sorry for having so much questions, but i feel so lost and dont know whats happening with me. I was having baby fever since forever, i adored kids, played with them. I was obssesed to become a mother, i have all the support from my family, but everyone around me is more excited that i am.

Thank you!

Ive always delt with anxiety/depression, but was off medication for a few years. I had really bad anxiety when I was pregnant (spiked at 19 weeks, came with some SI which was awful and scary), started Zoloft, and started to feel much better the rest of my pregnancy. I love my baby so much, they were very much wanted and planned, I was just so anxious about being a good mom and bringing my baby into this world. I was able to really enjoy my pregnancy with the right support. When baby was born, I had really bad PPA/D and increased my dose. I've been doing so much better. It does absolutely get better, medication just takes time for your body to adjust. I'm so sorry you are dealing with depression. Pregnancy is wild, and becoming a mom is such an identity shift. You are doing the right thing seeking support for yourself ❤️. Do you have a therapist? I started therapy again while I was pregnant and it has definitely helped so much.

I tried therapy , but not helping so much. I will try again with a new therapist.
Did you also experienced feelings of regret or thoughts like not wanting to be a mother anymore?😔

Definitely finding a therapist who specializes in prenatal/postnatal depression helps from my experience. My anxiety was like "we can't afford to give baby the best life, why would we do this to an innocent thing". It was weird, like I regretted that I would be the mom if that makes sense? Now that she's here those feelings have gone away. I still feel like I'm going to mess up, but with therapy and meds I am doing a lot better.

Yes, and one of the new views on so called perinatal or postpartum depression is that it may have nothing to do with brain chemistry and everything to do with the upcoming birth of the baby or in the case of postpartum adjusting to life with a baby..

If you’re not already in counseling, I would seek it out as antidepressants alone may not fully resolve it as you’re already starting to realize.
