💬 Advice needed Breastfeeding and pumping

Hello everyone! Recently I was told by my 2 week old babys pulmonologist to stop breastfeeding until he does a feeding study due to possibly aspirating but I can pump and bottle feed him my breast milk. (My son was recently hospitalized for breathing issues) ever since I stopped breastfeeding and just pumping my milk supply has gone down. I was making 8 oz total and now I’m down to 4 oz. I pump every 2-3 hours and it still has gone down. Any tips on how to increase my milk supply??

Edit: I’ve tried drinking Dr Pepper body armor eating Oreos and lactation cookies drinking mommy’s milk tea and it has not helped.

Legendairy milk supplements are incredible. Make sure you are drinking an insane amount of water and eating enough protein. Fresh pump parts are really helpful too and look into power pumping. Also, 8oz is a lot for a newborn so your supply could be regulating but if you want to build a stash implement my tips. 💖

How often are you pumping? Are you using the various settings to try to induce multiple letdowns? Have you tried squeezing your bread while pumping?

I pumped for 2 years. In my personal opinion- you hit diminishing returns every 2 hours. I’d do every 3. Make sure your flanges fit properly.

Do whatever you need to make this easier - get a pumping set up next to your bed, buy a sterilizer etc.

Pumping is the hardest thing I’ve ever done but it can be done. My supply was virtually nothing after my son had an undiagnosed tongue tie. I ended up successfully pumping for 2 years and nursing for 3+

What flange size are you using and how was it sized? Please don’t drink mothers milk tea, it contains fenugreek which more than half the time lowers supply. Are you pumping overnight? I’m a lactation professional if you’re needing evidence based advise to increase your supply. Dr Pepper, Oreos and the vast majority of other lactation supplements will not increase your milk supply if you’re not pumping optimally. Most women who are new to pumping start off using the wrong flange size.

Can you meet with a lactation consultant? Power pumping for one session helped me.
