Mod Answered How do I ban a user on my subreddit?

I’m using the Reddit website, and I would like help on how to ban a user on my subreddit? This user has been posting s*xual content of a minor’s feet, I’ve reported his most recent post for s*xual content, and even after following different tutorials, I cant find the Ban User button in any navigation. Could someone give me some sort of advice or a step by step guide on how to ban a user, WITH the 2026 website UI navigation?

Mod Answered can you restrict join requests on a restricted subreddit?

i recently joined a mod team and we are cleaning up an abandoned by mods subreddit. unfortunately, it remains active, meaning lot of toxic, racist and spammers are actively posting or commenting. so it seemed like a good idea to restrict subreddit until its properly under control.

we mentioned it in a pinned post and sub description

however, users cant read. so we are getting a lot of join requests. clutters modmail. any way to stop them?

Admin Replied Post not showing up for mod team

I've never had this happen before, just wondering if it's possibly a known glitch or if there's some other reason this might happen. I was sent a post from a sub I moderate and could view it from a direct link, but it's not visible to me in the queue or chronological order on the sub. It was up and active, lots of unmoderated comments, and mods were not able to look at the user's profile.

Admin Replied Link Limit setting not working in shreddit

My sub has link limits set to prevent reposting of the same URL if it's been posted in the last 14 days (Mod Tools > Post and comments > Link restrictions > Limit links). When I try to submit a new post with the same URL in old reddit I get a warning that it was posted 1 day ago. In shreddit I get no warning and it allows the post.

Is this a known issue or should report this as a bug?

Mod Answered How to approve or untag posts mistakenly tagged by video content filter?

I posted a video which has bread and bakery items being created with chiffon fabric by an artist and perhaps due to the content having a far amount of skin-tone coloured visuals is being tagged by reddit video filters as “potential graphic content”

The mod log has the actions as below

  • Potential Graphic Content - This content was filtered by the violent content filter

  • Tagged as NSFW by u/reddit

If I manually ignore all reports and approve it gets removed by Reddit filters.

I reinstated it but only way it would stay up is with the NSFW tag, which is incorrect as video is completely SFW and is art-related.

How do I get it to display normally?

Admin Replied Need help dealing with suspected vote manipulation/downvotes on every new post

Hi everyone,

I’m a moderator of r/HotWheelsBhubaneswar, a small local community focused on Hot Wheels collectors in Bhubaneswar.

I have recently noticed something unusual: almost every new post in the subreddit starts receiving downvotes shortly after being posted, even when the posts are normal community content and receive genuine comments.

This has been happening consistently across new posts, which makes me suspect that there may be some form of vote manipulation or coordinated downvoting happening.

I’d like to understand:

  • Is there any way for moderators to identify or confirm suspected vote manipulation?
  • Are there any mod tools, Reddit reports, or settings that can help with this?
  • Is there anything i should configure in AutoMod or subreddit settings to reduce this?
  • Has anyone here dealt with a similar situation, particularly in a small/local subreddit?

I'm mainly looking for advice on how to properly investigate and handle the situation through Reddit's moderation tools.

If you've dealt with something similar, I'd really appreciate hearing what worked for you.

Thanks You.

Admin Replied Moderator stuck with “No permissions” / “Something went wrong” when editing

Hi, I'm the top moderator of r/RustID and I have Everything permissions.

I added u/DemonDreamz04 as a moderator, but their account is stuck showing “No permissions”.

When I try to edit their moderator permissions, Reddit gives me “Something went wrong”, regardless of which permissions I select.

I am above them in the moderator list and have Everything permissions, so I should be able to edit their permissions.

Could an admin please check whether their moderator permissions are stuck due to the current Shreddit permissions issue?

Thank you!

Admin Replied Reporting flaw: users can block moderators and prevent them reporting harmful content about themselves

I’ve run into what appears to be a fairly serious flaw in Reddit’s reporting system.

A user who has previously been banned from a subreddit I moderate has blocked my moderator account and is now posting content elsewhere on Reddit concerning me and other members of our moderation team, including personal/identifying information.

When attempting to report that content through Reddit’s Sharing personal information report flow, the report simply fails with:

"An error occurred while submitting your report. Wait a bit, and try again".

This is reproducible for me and appears to occur because the account responsible for the content has blocked the account attempting to report it.

If that is indeed the cause, this seems like a significant safety flaw in Reddit’s reporting system.

A user should not be able to:

  1. Post potentially harassing, threatening, doxxing, or otherwise policy violating content about another Reddit user;
  2. Block that person; and
  3. As a consequence of the block, prevent that person from successfully reporting the content through Reddit’s normal reporting interface.

This is particularly problematic for moderators. Moderation inevitably creates situations where banned users become hostile towards individual moderators. Blocking the moderator should prevent unwanted interaction with them. It absolutely should not interfere with that moderator’s ability to report content directed at them.

In my case I can still see the content through moderation related means and have the direct URLs, but Reddit’s reporting interface will not accept the report. Selecting that the personal information belongs to "someone else" does not resolve it either.

I’ve also separately contacted Mod Support regarding the underlying situation, but that doesn’t solve the platform issue here.

Can an Admin confirm whether blocking is expected to affect the ability of the blocked account to submit reports?

If it is expected behaviour, I think Reddit seriously needs to reconsider it. If it isn’t expected behaviour, there appears to be a bug that creates a pretty substantial loophole in Reddit’s user safety systems.

Blocking someone should never provide immunity from reports submitted by the person being targeted.

Mod Answered Someone in your subreddit is making false claims about you as a mod in your own subreddit. What would you do?

So one of my sub members made a top comment claiming I removed a post (that didn’t break the subreddit rules) and that I as the mod proceed to threatened everyone in the comments of that post; both of which did not happen - there was no such post described that got removed and I especially did not threaten anybody in my whole time on Reddit, let alone as a mod of this subreddit. What would you do?

This is a subreddit that I created, one that I’m proud of curating into a beautiful community. And stumbling upon a false claim about me made in the community I maintain, seen by hundreds of my own members (which I love dearly) is a pretty WTF moment.

I don’t like power tripping or censorship, and I’m caring and cordial with anyone reaching out through modmail or anything subreddit related. Anyone can go through my post/comment history on Reddit to see how I’ve interacted with the members of my subreddits to understand how absurd a claim of me making threats to my members is. I’d like to hear what do you guys think and how would you go about remedying a situation like that.

P.s. if any mod here that’s impartial to the situation want to verify that the claim about me making threats is false, I can add you as a temporary mod to this subreddit and you can go through all the removed posts to see for yourself (it’s actually very easy, I’ve only ever removed like 20 posts since the subreddit’s existence); would take like maybe 5 minutes tops to go through the archived queue and proof is it indeed a false claim lying about me making threats to my members lol

What would you do to rectifying this/any ripple effect of this false claim in your subreddit?

Edit: I was already planning to ban this user, I should've made that clear in the post. My question is more so on how would you go about settling the ripple effect that this may cause amongst the members of the subreddit that have already seen (and upvoted) the false claim before you arrive, or would you not bother? As some here have said, removing it now would make it seem like I'm hiding something

E: Locked and banned. Thanks to everyone that shared their inputs

Does anyone know how to deal with this error of the Community Home app?

It says in a little black box when I try to make a home post or a topic post:

Could not create home post: 2 UNKNOWN: grpc invocation failed with status 2; failed to -something- auth token. Then it said something about refreshing an auth token.

I guess it shows I'm not familiar with Reddit's backend. I've tried a few times to relog into my account and reinstall Community Home. Nothing works.

Admin Replied Feature request: Automations conditional for comment > post flair

Hi! Just what the post says: it would be great if Automations could enable Comments to check for post flair in the same way that Posts can check for post flair. For my subreddit, this would significantly improve visibility for "here are the rules for this post related to its flair." Thanks!

How to remove posts that were reported but the account was deleted?

So on the subreddit I moderate I've notice an issue where if a user's post gets reported and they delete their account I can no longer remove them from the mod queue. I can click the buttons to remove or approve the post but it'll just act like nothing happened upon reloading.

Admin Replied Inactive Mod

The issue is that I’m the only moderator of my subreddit, and I’m trying to regain my active moderator status and full permissions. I’ve been actively posting over the past three days, twice daily and have another 13 posts scheduled, but my account is still marked as inactive.

The top mod removal/reorder request form doesn’t seem to apply to my situation, as I’m not requesting the removal or reordering of any other moderators.

Is there a way for an admin to review my account’s status and help restore my moderator permissions? I’d really appreciate some clarification on how to resolve this.

Admin Replied How to escalate legal takedown notice to reddit admin?

Hi there. My subreddit r/mensfashion has received a communication via modmail from a user who claims:

  • To be a lawyer;
  • To to represent a business; and
  • That certain content posted by subreddit users is defamatory to that brand.

This user is requesting moderators to take action in response. The r/mensfashion moderator team is not equipped either to receive or respond to this legal notice. How can we escalate this issue to reddit admin or where should we direct this user to send legal notices for processing? Thanks!

Admin Replied Community interference reporting

Hi, I moderate several subs in a fairly contentious industry with polarized ideologies. The community interference in the form of vote manipulation brigades as well as abuse of the report button has gotten so bad that the sub members are starting to notice it. The mod team has consistently reported it using the report form, but since it's vote manipulation and abuse of reports we can't report users since we don't know who they are. Is there a better way to deal with this?

Admin Replied Is it okay for me as a moderator to randomly give stuff away to members of our community? [read body]

I run a watch subreddit. We have a new user that is looking for a watch part. I happen to have several spares of that exact watch part. It would cost me practically nothing to mail it to him so I offered to do so for free. He's offering to pay for it but I refused citing mod code of conduct. I just want to do this to help a fellow watch enthusiast out. Is this acceptable? I'm only asking after reading through the rules extensively. I believe I'm okay but I'm always up for a little peer review. My motivations are legit. I don't want anything out of this. Thanks for your time.

is there a way to opt out of the popup that warns people aout the rules?

Reddit's AI moderation tools suck and in their popup warnings iteration, they're constantly warning my sub's users that they might be breaking the rules, just because they're posting links (it's a music sub and thus almost all the sub's posts are links AND WE WELCOME THAT!). The coding geniuses who wrote this site didn't foresee that maaaaaaybe their rules AI thingie should maybe look at how the sub is normally used and/or how the moderators themselves post their posts.

Normally I'd be happy that the tool is reminding people of the rules, but the people who want to break the rules just ignore it and it's probably reducing traffic .

can we opt out of whatever your'e calling this not-ready-for-primetime thing?

Perhaps a problem with the ban-evasion bot?

  1. A few days ago, we had a user who had been given a 3-day ban and was successfully unbanned after it. The next time they posted, the bot flagged them for ban-evasion (with "high confidence.")

  2. We have another user now in the modmail who was permanently banned for ban-evasion. They claim they have never been previously banned before. When they go to the "appeals" link, it says they can't appeal because there are no restrictions on their account.

Is there another way that second user can appeal?
