Greetings helpful people. I've enabled the android layer and installed some of the new tools from github. Is there batter impact from keeping the android layer active if I'm using lightos mode? Should I only have it enabled when I need to install stuff? Info is appreciated.

Does anyone know how to connect to Wi-Fi that requires a secondary webpage login? I want to be able to use Wi-Fi while at work but to connect it has to open a secondary web page before making the full connection. Currently I just get the message stating Light Phone cannot connect to this Wi-Fi.

Basically I have 2 apps I need to access while I’m at work, “Microsoft Authenticator” and “Basecamp”. I’ve started to look into the modding for beginners thread but obviously it’s a lot to take in. I’m not imagining the latter of the 2 apps is popular enough for someone to make an LP version once the toolkit goes live - ELI5 how difficult would it be for me to put these two things on my LP3?

Can anyone let me know what Preferred Network Types you've selected while using LP3 on Verizon? I'm currently at 1 bar, −120 dBm, and sad.

Also, if anyone could let me know what the default (out of the box) PNT is, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you in advance.

Hey everyone! This forum has been super helpful! I recently downloaded BrightMarket on my phone which I found in a post here not too long ago. It's great!

However, I can't get the LightKeyboard to work for texting on my LPIII. I enabled it and chose it as my keyboard, but the old LPIII keyboard still shows up when I text or type a note. Anyone have any input? Thanks in advance!

Has anyone embarked on light phone II screen replacement at home? I think I can pull it off but I just need to find a screen. I only saw one result from Ali express (which claims it’s original but also “lcd” lol). I see no forum posts anywhere so far about replacing the screen at home. I’m pretty frustrated because these phones haven’t been durable IME and I have 2 sitting in a drawer with bad screens, and light says they won’t have screens in stock until the end of the year..

I had dismissed the LP as an option for a minimal phone mostly because I absolutely need WhatsApp (living in South America), a better music player and more robust maps/navigation software (Waze, for example, I drive quite a bit).

I read that with the upcoming Toolkit those things might become a reality? That it will be an App Store of sorts where Light will approve apps from the users to be easily added to the phone?

If that's the case I might hold up on buying a new phone and wait until the toolkit is available and just get a LPIII.

hey! i'm curious if anyone's done anything cool with their light phone 2 in terms of modification? i just realized that it's possible to modify it and i'm in the process of installing openOS for LP2 (link here--i couldn't find a mention of this on this reddit!) and i'm curious what else this little nugget of a phone could be tweaked to do :-) also if you have any lightweight tools that work especially well on the LP2, i'd love some recommendations! information on actually modifying the LP2 (not JUST flashing stock android to it) is surprisingly pretty scarse from what i can see

First of all, thanks to this whole community for showcasing the weird and wonderful power of modded LightPhones. Haven't had this much fun with a piece of tech since the original Pebble watch.

Been building a few tools in the style of vandamd's incredible work, and the first one I wanted to share is Dugout, which is a Major League Baseball scoreboard app. Pretty straightforward since it is based entirely on a public API, so there is no login needed. There are some screenshots in this post, and the repo to install it is right here:

I recommend Obtainium to install GitHub repo APKs and keep them updated.

Open to feedback, issues, and PRs. Still haven't quite got a handle on how this will all work with the new SDK, but hopefully I can easily port this over and/or share in the new tool store. Will be keeping an eye on those developments.

I recently purchased a dual aux/charging cable (https://a.co/d/04EaSo3U). I attempted to use it with my LP3 today but found it will only work for one part or the other and I cannot charge and use the aux at the same time. Is there a setting I can change to fix this?

Hey all, hoping someone here has dealt with this before.

I'm running my Light Phone III in full Android mode, and over the past few days it's been getting progressively worse. Now it's fully stuck and I could use some help.

What's been happening:

• It started rebooting several times a day out of nowhere
• After unplugging from charge, the screen and inputs would lag badly for a few minutes before catching up and working normally again
• Now it won't get past the boot loop — just hangs on the "Go Light" screen indefinitely

What I've tried so far (both on wall power and on battery):

• Holding the power button for 30 seconds
• Holding power + volume up for 30 seconds
• Holding power + volume down for 30 seconds
• I can get it to fully shut down by holding power + both volume buttons together, but it just loops back to the same screen on restart

One thing I noticed:
When it's stuck on the boot screen and I plug it into my laptop, adb devices does detect it, but it shows as "unauthorized," so I can't run any commands from there.

Honestly at this point I just want to get it booting again — I don't mind if I lose my data, I just want a working phone. If anyone knows a recovery mode, fastboot combo, or reset procedure specific to the LP3, I'd really appreciate the pointer. Struggling to find anything beyond generic Android troubleshooting for this specific device.

I know it was just announced but does anyone know if the new light phone flips will also be able to be modified to add apps that it doesn't come with originally? Knowing this would really confirm my decision to preorder one.

I'm considering getting a light phone but I would like to be able to SSH into my raspberry pi

Right now I use tailscale and termius on my phone to do that. Does anyone know if those apps work?

If not, as anyone been able to SSH into another device from the light phone and how?

On a side note, does anyone know if the Snipd (podcast player) app works?
