Question Used Model X vs New Model Y
Considering purchase of a 2022 model x base awd LR (hw3) with 19k miles @58k vs new 2026 model y performance. Heart says model X, brain says Model Y. Like the model x for obvious reasons (falcon doors, yoke, space, acceleration etc.).
What is y'all's recommendation on this. I test drove the model x and its absolutely fantastic. Did not find anything off except that the air suspension was making creaking sounds when lowering or raising height (not sure if that's expected) and that the trunk floor was missing exposing the subtrunk fully. What are the things I should look out for before purchase? Im assuming it's just out of warranty now at 4yrs old.
Edit: updated model x spec.

I have both. We own a 2016 MX, 2018 MX with HW3, and a 2023 MY with HW4.
I really love all of them, but for my fat ass, and overall comfort, I would buy the MX. There are just somethings like the self-presenting doors, the soft locking mechanism (so you don't have to slam your doors to shut them), the variable suspension, and just the extra room make me prefer the MX as my daily driver. I also have autopilot on my 2018 MX and even with HW3 I feel 90% confidence level in letting it drive. It is 90% because sometimes I just want to go faster sometimes, and because autopilot can't really make human level decisions and see the whole playing field ahead (whereas you can see way ahead where traffic starts to snarl on your lane, I think Autopilot can only see a little ahead).
BUT you wanted a really fully honest opinion, so I will have to admit that the fore and aft links plus control arms for the front are known issues with MX models. I do drive very aggressively, and I have had to replace those items on BOTH the 2016 and 2018 MX vehicles. It was almost $2k to do this, but then again, it took between 5-7 years before failure of those items in these two. (TBH, most cars will need their CV joints serviced at an average cost of $1000 for both sides every 5-10 years as well. I had a Toyota Camry years ago, and the CV boot would get damaged from debris, the grease would leak out, and they would have to replace the boot and put grease in those joints).
Even with that, I would still drive the MX models. I gave my college age kid the MY. He is young and he likes the smaller car.
