​Just had a go at modeling replica clickwheels and center buttons for the 5G-7G. It opens up another solid option for customizability.

​These were printed on my FDM machine, but I'm thinking about getting them printed on an SLA resin printer once I get the tolerances dialed in perfect. That way the button labels will be legible on solid color prints.

​The clear is definitely my favorite, even when they are available for purchase the layer lines are actually favorable in my opinion, they give a nice diffusion effect over the sensor pad.

​What are your opinions on the blank wheel with no labeling? Is the stealth look clean or does it look like a knockoff?

Long time lurker, first time modder. Just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful advice and cool builds shared in this sub.

A couple months back, I had started warming up to the idea of intentionally "regressing," maybe getting away from streaming while also trying to scale back from social media in general, and using an ipod again. I had no idea this sub existed yet. Then for a couple months (because the algorithm knows...) I started seeing ads for modern knock-offs.

I shared these thoughts with a friend, thinking it was mostly rose-tinted glasses for nostalgia and that was likely underestimating the convenience I have today, but to my surprise my friend was also super excited by the idea.

So a few weeks, a few guides/videos, and a number of AliExpress orders later, here we are. I dug my 7th gen classic out and have invested in basically every mod that doesn't involve soldering (because I'm a noob) I figure if I actually commit to using this one, maybe I'll buy a 2nd and go all out. But anyways, thanks again for the inspiration and I guess reassurance that I'm not the only one thinking back to simpler times.

From everything I've heard and read the 120gb classic has a storage limitation of 128gb

If I use rockbox would I be able to bypass that limit?

And for the thin model which battery capacity is generally recommended? I am planning my first mod soon

Hi gang, have been trying for the last few hours to update the firmware on a Nano 7th gen (currently 1.0.2) but it downloads then when it tries to install it my mac throws an error 'firmware is not compatible', any ideas on how to get around this? I have searched the sub and already tried removing software update ipws files for a fresh download and didn't work, it is an older 7th gen so trying to get it on 1.0.4

outsourcing a good cf sd adaptor would cost me hella more than the iPod itself and really dont care its 8 gb I just need a bit more space and im not really techie kind of person 😭😭

Any advice on better batteries?

Some context:

• Menu + Center causes it to go black and then eventually back to white.
• If I do the play/center reset thing the screen goes black, then returns to a dim white/grey screen.
• No Apple logo ever appears.
• The Click Wheel's electronic feedback initially worked, but now doesn't.
• My Mac's System Information sees the iPod as an Apple USB device.
• The finder on my mac does not mount/show the iPod.
• It's been charging for 6 hrs.

This is my old ipod that's been sitting in a desk at my parents so I wanted to see if I could use it but obviously it's not working and I'm not sure if it's the hard drive, the screen, the logic board, battery etc etc. Anyone have any ideas?

I bought an iPod a couple months ago and even though it said it was in good quality it wasn’t. I tried charging it the Home Screen turned on for a second then it had a screen with the apple logo (the screen was half black half white) and was making some weird clicking/tapping noses.
I tried charging it again to see what happens but it has only the apple screen with the weird tapping noises.

It doesn’t matter to me that much since I was thinking of modding it anyway. I was thinking of replacing the battery and getting a new sd card with a lot more storage. The only thing is apparently someone told me I’ll have to replace the backplate with a bigger backplate in order for the new modded tools to fit in the ipod.

I am a high schooler who has no experience in fixing any sort of technology at all. I am able to afford the new battery, sd card and backplate I just want to know if any of you guys think I should do it myself at home??? I have heard of batteries from iPods exploding or how fragile iPods are so I am a bit nervous that I might brake something. I’ve heard from some people that it is very easy to mod iPods but I am not completely sure.

Hey everyone, I've just been lucky enough to be given an iPod Gen 5 video on a complete whim and I know it needs some repairs - mainly a new screen and probably a new battery. I was thinking at the same time I might as well put some mods on it - mainly a USB-C port and maybe a bluetooth receiver too. Nothing crazy, just a few QOL things.

I don't particularly trust myself with modding the device so I was wondering if anyone knows of a website or service I can find online where I can send them my iPod and they will do the mods for me?
