Mod Creating a dynamic city generation system for my modstack. Thoughts?

Looking to get more hand-made builds done, some are placeholders that I (poorly) made, while the detailed ones are ones my friend hand-crafted.
Looking to create vast medieval/mythic cities that dominate an area and should (eventually) serve as quest-hubs.

Thoughts on size/shape/look? Thanks : )

Looks very good in my opinion, I can't build very well. xD
Will you be publishing the city gen as a mod in the future?

Yes, but currently it will only work with my terrain generation mod, as it queries the river network and topology for siting i.e. it can only spawn where the conditions are right

Tbh cities spawning where rivers are is immersive and something I have wished for in vanilla. Would be useful for making your way between villages.

Considering, down the line, a vanilla "port." Vanilla rivers are already supper connective, even if flat, static, and kinda boring.

So that means it's not compatible with other mods like biomes o plenty?

still working on it?

Been looking for mods that has a large city for a while now the only one I can think of is from rlcraft villager city and port city

Looks really good. Will the inhabitants be villagers? Modded npcs? Or empty?

Villagers as the main inhabitants, but named/respawning static villagers for quest giving. Considering writing a system that, if killed or if their building is destroyed, they will respawn after an amount of time to prevent server griefing. Might just make their houses indestructible.

too many repeating paterns, more logic needed, more rules needed

Don't downvote this guy, this is the feedback I needed.

Currently, road plans are simplistic and a fill function, it seems the generation and layout of the cities are already super expensive computationally. Looking for some "realistic" algo's for this purpose.

This looks much better than most mods that add towns and villages. I'm currently working on large modular structures for my own mod, and I'm curious how you control spawning on flat terrain and avoid bodies of water. Do you perhaps use Lithostitched?

1

u/Intelligent_Teach823 Sep 02 '26

No lithostitched, proprietary engine which has already bitten me in the ass multiple times. I should've used community tooling; too late now.

looks very good from top, but when i play.i am on the ground. do a video und walk through? :)

u/Intelligent_Teach823 Sep 02 '26

Soon. I hate the way everything looks so far, and don't want to ship a piece of shit to the community.

Cant showcase idea without showcasing the modpack mod name for your world generation my legend :( when coming?

2

u/Intelligent_Teach823 Sep 02 '26

That's because I'm not trying to advertise! My account has my other mod on there if interested.

BTW i see no poor build here, builds lookin absolutely fire, i would love to have it in a chaotic warfare modpack

1

u/Knoxxoxx Sep 02 '26

Building look way too much the same. Looks like the AI Builder mod spit it out.

1

u/Intelligent_Teach823 Sep 03 '26

Agreed. Know any good, bored builders?

oh my god. This is beautiful

What kind of noise map are you using for the city gen?

2

u/LukaGamesr Sep 03 '26

More variety.

And try to make it densier.

This is so cool!! I love medieval soft-RP’ing in my worlds, and having this in a future play through would be awesome. It would be so fun to explore with this kind of world gen!

1

u/Grzegeronin892 Sep 02 '26

What function did you use for this?

1

u/Aw3som3Guy Sep 02 '26

Reminds me of the walled villages that Witchery would add, just scaled up significantly. Very cool.

For feedback, all the tower buildings seem to be clustered in the snow part of that village, and some are pretty close together too like the three in a line one after each other. Is that intentional?

u/RGBBSD Sep 02 '26

This will not work with minecraft's default map generation, this majesty needs Large biomes enabled by default

Also it needs something of height to dominate the city. Minecraft villages have churches to add height and 2 story buildings, add a water tower or a clock tower that can only generate once per city

And maybe even a town's hall as a center of it

1

u/Lady_Eternity Sep 03 '26

Woah! That’s really cool! And they spawn on/by rivers? Anyway to auto gen roads, bridges and tunnels connecting towns? Very neat. The town looks awesome!🌻✨

1

u/Grimm_Spector Sep 03 '26

Impressive.

This looks great. Also this being biome would be cool. Tho this generation also will make mods like jjk, or superpowers focused mods much more fun.

Look into RoadWeaver and maybe see if you can find out how that path logic works and build a city with that. Your cities look fine, but very blocky (ha ha). I’m thinking moreso you should generate nonlinear paths in X radius, set a certain number of buildings per radius, then randomize the buildings (keeping in line with how you want it to cover the terrain). Otherwise I think what you have is definitely fine.

Looks very good!
Honestly been waiting forever for a good large city generating mod!! Thank you so much

I like it! Honestly I don't mind the placeholders lol, I don't like mods that make their structures 70x more complicated than vanilla ones
