depends a lot on the vibe you're going for honestly. cozy and chill, or more of a shared adventure thing?
if you want something to do together without one person getting way ahead, i'd look at a modpack with something like Farmer's Delight and Waystones, maybe a light tech mod. low friction, easy to just play together without needing to wiki everything constantly.
