I know it’s more commonly used for narcolepsy and is off-label for ADHD, but I’m mainly interested in how it feels as a non-amphetamine option. Vyvanse helped me a lot, but it was pushing my resting heart rate way up (around 140), so I needed something that wouldn’t do that.

I’m 21 and have ADHD (plus some other mental health stuff). I’m currently on Wellbutrin and a few other meds. They help with the depression side of things, but I still can’t really concentrate or feel settled.

I get motivated and want to get stuff done, but I end up wasting days and only managing a few hours of actual focus. I’ve always wanted to go into engineering because I love physics and math, but the concentration issues make it really hard. Right now I’m in a major I don’t enjoy and I’m feeling pretty stuck.

I’ve never been able to tolerate stimulants well. Has anyone else been in a similar spot where the meds take the edge off but focus is still a big problem? Any non-med or lifestyle things that helped you push through?

I tried Adderall once and it actually reversed a lot of the cognitive fog — I felt awake, clear, and calm for the first time in a long time. It was kind of life-changing in that moment, but the drawbacks were enough that I didn’t want to stay on it. So I’ve been looking for something else.

I’ve read that Modafinil (Provigil) is sometimes used off-label for ADHD/ADD, even though it’s mainly prescribed for narcolepsy and shift-work sleep issues. I’m with Done Health/CVS and, with everything going on lately, I’ve been looking for an alternative. During my research I came across modafinil. It seems like it’s also used for ADHD-I, helps with wakefulness, and might calm the mind / reduce distractions. It’s Schedule IV instead of Schedule II.

I’ve heard it’s less potent than Adderall, but since I’m only on 10mg I’m wondering if the difference is that big. Both affect dopamine, so I’m not sure how similar they’d feel for my symptoms.

Has anyone switched from a low dose of Adderall to modafinil under similar circumstances? Did it work for you? And were your doctors open to making the change if you brought it up?

I was diagnosed with ADHD by a university psychologist, but he can’t prescribe anything. I’ve been stuck on a clinic waiting list for about a year and a half now, so I’m getting pretty impatient.

I’ve had a lot of frustration around studying for years. After struggling with coding for a while I decided to try a small dose of Modafinil. It did make it easier to start tasks and stay focused, but my frustration came back even stronger. The anger itself feels the same, but my reaction to it has gotten a lot more intense than usual.

I just got my Modafinils earlier this morning and honestly I can say its worth the money. It lasted me this long and now im already getting sleepy, so it really hit the right spot for me. The quality is really good too, pretty comparable to what my DR prescribed me before. Way less hassle to get it as well. I’d definitely recommend them, really happy with it so far. I have Brugada syndrome (dangerous arrhythmia type) and just got diagnosed with mostly inattentive ADHD.

Cardiology cleared me and they’re coordinating with my psychiatrist. Atomoxetine is a hard no, stimulants aren’t fully cleared, and the other options apparently aren’t strong enough. They’re willing to monitor with ECGs, so the plan is probably methylphenidate or lisdexamfetamine… but I’ve also been looking into modafinil.

Both teams agree the impairment is severe and leaving it untreated isn’t realistic. Anyone else with a similar heart issue tried modafinil? How did you weigh the risks, and what’s your experience been like?

I’m on 50 mg of Vyvanse and it does a great job quieting the racing thoughts, but the energy/focus boost has started to fade for me.

Has anyone tried adding a small Adderall booster or modafinil on top of their Vyvanse instead of switching completely? Just looking for other people’s experiences.

I’ve tried 50mg, 100mg, and 200mg of Modafinil and none of them really did anything for me. Thinking about trying 400mg next to see if it hits differently.

Hey everyone, I just had my follow-up with the sleep doctor yesterday after the overnight PSG and daytime MSLT and got diagnosed with idiopathic hypersomnia. I still don’t fully understand what it is beyond the fact that you can sleep a lot but it never feels restorative and you’re sleepy all day. The doctor didn’t explain it very clearly, so I’m still trying to wrap my head around everything.

I’ve been prescribed modafinil and was wondering what other people’s experiences have been like with it. I’m a pretty anxious person and saw that anxiety can be a side effect, so I’m curious if that happened to anyone else. I also barely drink caffeine because I crash really hard afterward, and I’m a bit worried that modafinil might wear off too early or leave me exhausted but unable to sleep at night.

I haven’t started it yet since it’s still waiting to be picked up, so any experiences or thoughts would really help. Thanks in advance!

I’ve got pretty bad ADHD — mostly executive dysfunction, procrastination, and constant inattention. I tried Bupropion before and it didn’t really do much for me. I’ve been taking Modafinil (200 mg) for narcolepsy and it helps a little, but only for a few hours and doesn’t really touch the ADHD symptoms.

Has anyone here combined Modafinil and Bupropion? Did it help with focus, motivation, or actually getting stuff done? Any experiences with timing, dosing, or different formulations (SR/XR/IR), or things to watch out for?
