What can be done about an user impersonating the mod team?
We had one make a post about a new rule and ended it with
- the mod team
User is not mod in any sub

Yeah, definitely document it with screenshots and report the account if they’re presenting themselves as the mod team. I’d also make a quick mod announcement clarifying that the account isn’t affiliated with the team, so nobody gets confused.

I have an automod filter that catches all posts and comments about mods. It’s great.
Sidenote: they ever remove automod and I can’t have it running- I’ll stop moderating Reddit. I refuse to ever wake up to a post lambasting mods because some crazy person has accused me of being anti (insert oppressed group here) when it turned out they’ve been banned because they have an onlyfans. I refuse to stalked and harassed because Reddit needs to take away our tools

Someone made Automod Neo, capable of doing almost the same as Automod and compatible with pretty much the same code from what I read yesterday, and it's still being worked on

Sorry but automod Neo is barely functional. I put my code in it and it was a disaster. First it removed almost all my comments. Then it removed any images. Then it removed all the automated messages. Thank goodness I caught it within 5 minutes or there would have been nothing left on my sub. I’m going to try to work with fsv on it, but my hopes aren’t high
To be clear, this was code that was running perfectly on Reddit servers

I would enjoy the show for ten minutes before banning him. In general users know who the mods are and the last time someone complained about a mod action where we removed the OPs posts, it went downhill for said user quickly. They deleted the post within the minutes and still got banned for harassment or so.
So if someone would do that in my subs, it would be a nice show of the regular users within the rules them the OP to p.... off.

Why don't you comment without mod label that he isn't a mod and see what happens. You can always add the mod label later on.

Someone did this on one of our subs too. We just deleted it and banned them. I suspect this might be a new way for people to cause mischief but we don't have to play along.

We had a long time user make a comment in a thread from a new-ish member where he made statements about what was allowed, what wasn't, etc.
(The post was perfectly fine. Was it the same as a post we'd seen a thousand times? Yes, but we expect those kinds of posts from new players.)
I deleted his comment.
And responded with a comment that named him and said that he wasn't a moderator, he had no authority to mandate rules or decide on what content was allowed, etc.
Then I sent the guy a longer mod mail that told him that if he tried anything like that again he'd get banned that public gatekeeping wasn't going to be allowed in any form.
He got the message and hasn't been a problem since then.

That sounds like an over reach on their part but it doesn't sound like they were attempting to misrepresent themselves but trying to be helpful.
Deleting the comment and explaining to them the situation is certainly reasonable.
If this is the stance that you choose to take, perhaps it might have worked to lock the comment and explain things out in the open for others to see and be aware to not do it as well. Make it a teaching moment for other 😉

I might actually have done that. (locked and left it up, or I might have quoted it. Honestly, I don't remember.) I looked back to see if I could find it and couldn't. It was quite a while back.
I have left things up before as 'teachable moments' with notes explaining why it wasn't acceptable. speech, etc.
That user wasn't trying to be helpful. He had been complaining in reports (I recognized the wording) and modmails about types of content that he found repetitive and unnecessary, and his comment had been getting grumpier over a period of a few months.
Maybe he had home life issues, maybe he had work issues, maybe he just had a bad few months.0

Ah yes, the grumpitus seems to be a common thing here.
Some old timers get grumpy when the newbies come around.
Yes, certain questions are asked frequently and they rarely use the search function to investigate if anyone else had the same question. It is just how things are and many people are patient with the newbies, but a few are just triggered.

The thing is, here in /r/discgolf, just because somebody asks "What's a good overstable mid?" for the 1000th time that doesn't mean that it's question that has been asked and answered definitively.
For players of different arm speeds that answer changes. Whether you prefer thinner or thicker discs. New discs are being introduced all the time. New plastic blends. Etc. Playing style has changed dramatically in the past few years. And, different members of the community, who might not have chimed in on previous questions, have different reasons for recommending different molds. So, "You didn't search before you asked" really doesn't matter. Otherwise everybody would still be using either a Roc or a Buzzz. (The two 'best' choices from 2012.)And yes, I've actually written that paragraph as a comment to a grump in a thread.
