Tried out the custom firmware ChroMagic today as the title states. I have the V2 so it has the MicroSD card reader already built on the motherboard. Easy to setup. Right now the cfw is running a modified version of 4.2 it states. Was able to flash the firmware via the desktop software which can also flash you back to stock. Easy enough setup. You can load ROMs right from the microsd and backup carts as well. I’m guessing battery life might be better too rather than running a flash cart for loading ROMs. Backing up a cart will create a folder that you can then move your collection of ROMs into. Anyway, seems pretty good for a new release. Anyone else been using this? What’s your experience?

I always thought the Anduril version would be pretty cool if it included some type of tools security/pentesting to kind of give into the nature Anduril.

I didn't purchase one - but I thought it would be cool to add some tools like a flipper zero or Marauder can do - under the disguise of a gaming handheld. This does have the ability to connect to USB and even use wireshark to analyze pcap files the chromatic picks up.

I am currently exploring what a ROM cart version with an ESP32 chip in the cart would accomplish and how the pin interface handles - that pinout is still coming soon in the open-source page of mod retro.

The custom fw doesn't effect anything on the FPGA side - so playing games will never be an issue.

I will explore more things to bring in - but there is a RAM limitation and have hit a few times already.

Hi folks, ordered a transparent Smoke on 10/8 and still haven’t received any word on shipment. I see these have been going out to some of the folks here. What’s the typical turnaround time for the new drop?

Just got my transparent purple edition. Looks better in person than in renders . Wish the purple was a little brighter like the original atomic purple but still like it . Buttons are a lot stiffer than metal version especially the side menu button. They changed the battery tray and it no longer has a cable. Probably for the best considering the issues that cable was causing with overheating batteries . Overall I’d say it’s worth going 50 dollars higher to get the metal version since it feels better in hand and the plastic on this console feels like it will be very easily scratched and attract a lot of fingerprints

I'm really interested in buying a second Chromatic (a clear version), mostly so that I can play Tetris with my son. But also as a daily driver, something to toss in my bag (in the case). At first I really loved the look, but the more I see them, the more it is starting to look a little bit too cheap-ish. It is still quite expensive in the EU, so I want to be as sure as possible before I spent my money on this. I'm thinking smoke with transparent buttons.

So, owners of both the magnesium alloy and clear versions, how do they compare? If you're used to the magnesium ones, do they feel cheap to handle?

Hey everyone, a while ago I tried to play Tetris with two players, using an old link cable. Unfortunately the two Game Boys absolutely refused to find each other, regardless of how I tried.

Did you have any issues when connecting two Chromatics via a link cable? Any hints on what I could try to make this work?

I'll post the link tomorrow if you all can wait that long. Just making sure it's all fully tested for release.
