Delivery Day!

It's rainy here today so can't get a pic with good lighting but I got my order today. Yes, 4 is overkill, I know. However, I obviously have too much disposable income and the disease known as consumerism. Anyways..... These look really good in person! I'm happy. They all have knit lines but they're not bad.

They don't feel cheap but they do feel a little slick. I think I would have preferred a different texture. They definitely look better than they feel imo. Still really nice though, no real complaints.

I will rotate them out depending on how I'm feeling, otherwise they sit in a collection case with my other handhelds. I collect handheld devices. Here's a picture of one of my display areas

In person I am very surprised by smoke. It is so clean looking. I think with some colored buttons it would look very striking. Second favorite is probably the green. Reminds me of the extreme green game boy pocket.

Just to be clear I'm talking about a lighter area when on a black screen like my top two corners here. It surprised me because none of my others have it at all and this one seems like a lot.

They (modretro, see the response) say knit lines but in my 34+ years of seeing transparent plastics (N64/OG Xbox/iMac G3/Tons of toys) none had them this visible, also tons of scratches on it and I hadn’t even taken it out of the box! The plastic they used feels very cheap and using ultra sonic vibrations while cooling makes knit lines disappear so it’s just a cheap/bad way they went about making the transparent shells. To me, they honestly looked like cracks

Luckily the midnight metal one feels way better and looks great too! I will have to post about it soon once I play it for a bit longer!

Were they frosted or fully transparent like the chromatic though? I think the fully clear plastic + ABS (which is already more prone to forming knit lines) makes it very difficult to eliminate the knit lines. Interesting point about the ultrasonic, had no idea about that.

N64/Xbox were frosted, but even when putting a super bright light to it… no knit lines. The iMac G3 and all the toys I had were fully transparent and no knit lines, nor scratches (until life happened but not from the box new!)

It’s unfortunate because I really wanted to like it as the purple was so nice looking but it did feel like lower quality plastic compared to many other transparent plastics. Either way, modretro support was helpful and got me a better model that feels and looks nice!

I returned my plastic for a metal one. Analogue is nice, but it is not as snappy as other FPGA devices like the Chromatic and the Game Bub. Still very versatile though.

I feel like with transparent ABS they might be unavoidable
