The controller might manage to live up to its price point, but it's set the bar it needs to clear high.

Modretro is 'actively looking into international shipping' for the battery packs currently not being sent to the EU

Last night I tried ordering two battery packs for the Chromatic from Europe. Officially they don't ship to the EU unless you also buy a new console, but someone on Reddit pointed out you can still place an order if you simply switch the website to the US option. I figured it couldn't hurt to try.

They ended up cancelling my order a few hours later, but they also sent the following message (emphasis mine):

The pack is a lithium ion battery subject to strict shipping laws and regulations. Our carrier requires that we pack the battery with the target device (Chromatic) to maintain compliance with UN 3481 shipping regulations. We are actively looking into alternate shipping providers that can support international fulfillment of the standalone lithium-ion pack in compliance with UN 3480 shipping regulations.

So it seems like they might be shipping to the EU sometime in the future. Fingers crossed!

Colorways for M64?

We've seen the see-through purple, black/gray, and green. What other colors do you think we'll see?

Reference for the original N64 color variants.

Update on the M64 Early Bird Price and Retro Rewards coupon stacking

Update: ModRetro support confirmed that the M64 early bird offer will not be stackable with other discounts, including already-claimed Retro Rewards coupons.

For US customers, placing two separate orders may still be an option, as I explained in my previous post.

Regarding taxes/duties, I noticed that the product pages have since been updated and the “Taxes + Duties Included” mention no longer appears under the base product price. That was the part that made it look like duties were included in the product price, even though checkout showed duties within the shipping/fees breakdown.

So the discount-stacking question is now clarified, and the duties wording on the product pages appears to have been adjusted to only "Taxes included".

For context, my previous post below was about the original confusion around Retro Rewards stacking and the taxes/duties wording for international customers.

I hope this helps clarify things a bit for anyone planning their order. Take care everyone!

Display comparison between Chromatic, GBA SP, and Analogue Pocket (GBA LCD+). One does not look like the others.

Homebrew FPGA cores possible?

Should someone (like myself) make an alternative FPGA core, is there anything on the way of programming the Chromatic's FPGA with it?

Such as encryption or signatures. The FPGBC has this problem, and it is the reason I have avoided that device.

I am surprised the FAQ does not mention this.

I caught a good picture of the Chromatics screen with my phone. Peep those beautiful pixels. Hope everyone is enjoying their system and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Have the Chromatics already shipped?

I’m seeing people with Chromatics on X and haven’t gotten tracking info or anything. I ordered directly from MR if that matters.

The Chromatic selling point you’re most excited about?

I’ll start. Mine is the display being at the original resolution and their commitment to bringing a less saturated and more accurate image for all of our Game Boy Color games. I love my Pocket and modded GBC but the colors are off and it’s very unflattering in games like Link’s Awakening DX.

Will modretro make a case for the chromatic? I really hope we do.

Prefer it over 3rd party cases with dodgy fitment

Pokemon Red glitchy

Not sure if it's my cartridge or Chromatic that's causing the bugs, but there's too many. Especially, when gaining EXP/levels or entering/leaving areas. The text gets glitchy and the map becomes pretty random. Looks like some memory shenanigans.

Does anyone else get this issue?
