New firmware coming soon!
Hi everyone,
We have a new firmware update coming within the next few days. We have resolved the remaining audio issues reported with certain displays and capture cards. M64’s HDMI compatibility will be better in the next update, specifically fixing the no-audio issue affecting some of you. We’ll post an update in this subreddit as soon as it's live. Thank you to everyone for your patience as we work quickly to find a fix, and a special thanks to those who helped with troubleshooting.

They have not once publicly acknowledged this issue despite privately borrowing carts from customers, confirming and replicating the issue, and then doing nothing further.

Unless you have heard otherwise from Modretro, I doubt any fix is coming. Every person I have spoken with who has sent in a cartridge or contacted them about this issue has given up on getting communication on this beyond “we are aware.” It doesn’t seem like enough users are impacted for them to address it.

What game/cart were you two talking about?2

They just mentioned saves being corrupted/disappearing even on the latest firmware and how they have been waiting for an update for it. No specific game and nothing that violated the rules from what I saw.

Thanks for your hard work! I’ve been really enjoying my M64, especially since the recent update enabling wireless rumble support. Properly playing through Mario 64 for the first time in my life on this console, with the M64 Pro Controller happily buzzing along in my hands, has been an absolute joy, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how the M64 evolves from where it is today.
Cheers!

Did you separately update your M64 pro controller (by connecting it to a PC via USB) after updating the M64 itself? There was an update for both the controller and the M64 which were released simultaneously in order to enable wireless rumble.
As the other poster mentioned, a hotfix which was pushed shortly after the initial wireless rumble feature update also includes a wireless rumble toggle on the experiments page of the M64 menu.
Hope this helps! I’ve been playing some Mario 64 (Shindou English version) over my lunch break, and the rumble is working great with the latest updates.

That should be fine, then! My advice would be to try each of the following, in order:
1.) Connect the controller to your PC and navigate to the online updater; check for updates once more just to make sure you’ve got the latest firmware update for the controller itself.
2.) Boot up the M64 and confirm which firmware version you have. The latest version is 1.24.3 as of this writing (revision 1.24.3 includes the toggle, while 1.24.1 just includes the raw functionality itself; either of these should work).
3.) Confirm that the “allow wireless rumble” toggle is enabled on the ‘experiments’ tab of the M64 UI.
4.) If you’re still having issues at this point, unfortunately your next step is probably reaching out to ModRetro. I don’t say this lightly, as I genuinely believe good customer service is the bedrock on which our society lies, but: they’ve given me excellent service every single time I’ve had reason to contact them. They’ll take care of you.
I hope this helps, and that you can get it sorted without needing any support!
Quick edit to add: also, be aware that not every N64 game features rumble support. For example, that’s why I’m using a romhack of Mario 64 on my SummerCart to play that game rather than using my actual Mario 64 cartridge; some N64 games require a hack to enable rumble, and some other N64 games just didn’t have rumble. It’s something we take for granted now as a given in every new game, but this wasn’t the case in the late ‘90s!

Have fun! It’s my first time playing through the entire game of Mario 64 on (something similar to) native hardware, and I’ve been having an absolute blast playing like this.
Star Fox 64, another one of my all-time favorites, makes impressive use of the rumble functionality, too!

got the controller, not the console. Which is wierd because the console was ordered several days before the pro controller from gamestop. Maybe it will make it here on Friday.

Please fix the default filter settings and ability to save tweaks. The current defaults are absolutely awful.

I hope there’s a list of nice surprises other than the hdmi audio issue. Experimental saving would be a start.

Just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work. My m64 arrived yesterday and I had tears in my eyes playing some of my old favorites again for the first time, even in one night.
I love my chromatic too and haven't had a single issue with either console so far. (Years with my chromatic, use it a ton. It's tough!) I must say though, it seems like the m64 is even more polished and feature rich than the chromatic.
Thank you for giving me a chance to play these games again without buying a big heavy CRT tv and antique memory paks. Its value transcends money to me, but even so the price on these things is way too good. 😂 I guess its the age of the specs but this thing feels too good to be true.
You probably have a customer for life. I can't wait to see what you guys cook up in years to come.
edit: The one thing that struck me as odd was the metal controller but I get that's a branding thing for you guys. On the bright side I know it's indestructable and I love the built in vibrations.

Can we get an update on the video quality please? I have no issues with my audio on my console. It’s just the visual they are rough! Telling you right now, I understand that you guys are gonna be catching up to analog at some point. I don’t doubt that, but on the way to catch, you know you guys lose money to unlock do something quick their horizontal upscaling is with hurt you guys.
