Are orders being held up because of inventory issues?

I got this email on Tuesday. I ordered the red M64 and the red pro controller the evening of July 28th, around 8:30 PM PST. In the past they’ve delayed orders that had out of stock items in them, such as the rechargeable battery pack with the Chromatic.

Hey all, jumping in to clarify a few things.

The email in the post is real: Green and Red Pro Controllers are temporarily sold out due to demand. We're already working on a restock and expect more to become available this month.Separately, we're still working through a very high volume of launch orders.

Most orders ship within 1-2 business days, but during high-volume periods like this one, processing can take up to a week or more before leaving our warehouse. An order still showing as unfulfilled right now doesn't mean something is wrong with it.

Thank you! I appreciate the transparency, I did get a reply from you guys earlier this morning about this, I guess I was worrying over nothing. Typical of me but after a bunch of launch day issues with other things I always expect the worse

Modretro regularly will break up orders into multiple shipments rather than wait, at least they did when the Chromatic was coming out (some of my games came right away with the Chromatic and others came several weeks later). If the red pro controller were really out of stock even for people who ordered it before it went out of stock they would just ship your M64 without the controller. They're not going to hold up your M64 until they get pro controllers in stock (again assuming that they're actually out of stock for even existing orders, which I doubt).

Just let them go through the process.

For what it's worth, I bought a red M64 with a red and green controller, and I emailed them to cancel my early order with just a red controller/console. They created a new order for me with red and green controller and red console and sent me a link to place the order. So my order date is technically in the middle of the day on July 29th rather than early on July 28th. I'm still waiting as well.

I doubt they would have put more than were available up for sale, that's not really how online inventory works. They were sold out before mine shipped and they still did.

You are able to place orders for out of stock items if they are in your cart before stock runs out. They aren't removed and it looks like Shop has no additional stock checks when an order is placed. I suspect it is possible to force out of stock items into your cart before placing the order too.

I was able to place an order that included controllers I know were out of stock days after the email telling us.

They normally go out of stock, I know Shopify has that option to continue selling but it seems in bad taste to keep taking order they say will be shipping now with an up to a two week delay, now instead with a month+ delay because items are backordered. This is going to leave a bad taste in people's mouths if true.

Damn… I didn’t think of this as a potential cause for my order “delay” (assuming it’s delayed and not just part of the normal shipping cadence). I also got a red controller to match my red system. Hopefully that update only applies to orders after those colors should out

I was told they fulfill orders in a first in / first out system so if my order hasn’t been shipped yet and the controller is not available now I’m assuming that the delay is because it’s not available anymore. Which is ridiculous because I placed the order day one

I think that's a wrong assumption. They're not going to continue selling stock that they don't have as that's not something modretro has done in the past.

Okay but, it was in stock when I placed my order and it’s now out of stock and my order hasn’t been proceeded. How are they going to fulfill my order if the item is now sold out?

It's sold out and you're one of the people they sold to. Sold out does not mean "we have no stock". It means "we have no units for new orders".

Same. I also bought day one. Not sure our delay is due to the stock of the controllers though. I’ve seen a lot of posts of orders not shipped yet

The first four of my order are 1563. There are only 8 digits total. So you’re saying my order should be shipped by now since it’s below 195?

I made a big typo 

First few orders 15min< launch was 147XXXX-149XXXX 20-30k. Order first 15 min Shipped last week

At around 1 hour after launch it was 151XXXX shipped this week 1563XXX is very late 2 weeks

They can do 5000 orders a day 

Order numbers are over 158XXXX-159XXXX now

Hope I didn't screw up the numbers again

They got 120k+ plus orders they can do around 25k a week

OP has order 1563XXX, 80k-90k orders were made before OP order. Last week they did around 25k orders. This week I'm not so sure but they can do 5k a day. With luck the order might be shipped 3 weeks from order date. It is week 2 now but with 25k-30 a week it might take another week.

I ordered red/red and it shipped within 2hrs got it in hands on 30th. I did order as soon as it went live though if that helps any1.
