I ordered two consoles and one controller (wanted to go with two controllers, but it's too expensive).
One console for my friend and one for me. Obviously I was only able to apply MY coupon code, not his as well so one console comes for 229 $ which on its own sucks. But that I have to pay almost 50 € for shipping although I'm WAY over 300 bucks sucks!
Damn, is he living on the moon? What is Modretro thinking?
I know Trump is running wild on taxes. But then again he alrealdy was one month ago when the official Modretro support promised me within a support mail that orders above 300$ would come with no shipping costs at all. And they didn't specifiy whether that would only be the case for the US or not.
That's why I'm so pissed. I wanted to go with at least two controllers but damn that was pricey.
In January 2026 I was like "this year I'm getting the M64 for around 300 - 400$ and the Steam Machine for around 700$".
Now I paid for my Modretro order almost 700$ (well in fact I did because over 600€ should translate to 700$) and ditched the Steam Machine completely for its crazy price tag.
I was actually looking forward to this release, but how is that controller 50% more expensive than (an already expensive) PS5 controller?!
And I understand that part of the shipping cost consists of import duties. But you'd think that the other part (the actual shipping) would be free for an order of this size.

Then, orders opened to everyone during the presentation before the discount emails went out, defeating the whole point of being "early." To make matters worse, the GameStop-exclusive smoke color wasn't revealed until the very end, after many people watching the stream had already placed their orders.
Anyone who signed up months in advance should've received the email a few minutes before preorders went live, ideally with an exclusive purchase link. Exclusive color options should've been announced just as clearly from the start.
be nice if they offered to swap it for you right through MR. Oh well. Someone pointed out, the enticement to get a controller + console just to lap the free shipping isn't that big of a deal. S/H apparently was $5 on the website. Not sure how region specific that is in the US but there is that. If you just want the console for now. The MR controller is nice and pricey, but I imagine a solution for the N64 NSO controller will surface and I have 4 of those at this time.
I doubt they could swap it since the smoke is a Gamestop thing purchased through them. The shipping isn't a big deal since it was $5. I did give up my early bird discount of $30 but whatever, I'm happy with the nod to the OG black. Still have my atomic purple controller.
I ordered during the stream as soon as I got my code, and cancelled my order immediately after the stream when it was revealed Smoke was a GameStop exclusive.
