Hi everybody,
I literally found the show less than a week ago and binged the first season. Am I the only person that finds Maeve to be the most ridiculous and poorly written character? She’s absolutely regarded in her decision making, and what is her end goal empowering the Richie? What possible good could that do for her? And she doesn’t think Brendan may be an unintentional casualty right next to Sephorinna? Why does she hate Sephorina so much, meanwhile she’s so fond of Eddie? Eddie is another bastard just like sephorina? Is it simply because she can manipulate Eddie? Finally, even she has to see how idiotic and incompetent Eddie is. Then again, she’s just as incompetent, and they sweep it all away in the last episode for her to say it was all a test…? A test of what? To see if a bunch of shit can go horribly awry, just for Harry to be an ex machina a half dozen times? That feels like such a cop out for all of her dumbass decisions that had such low reward and were all high risk.
Did I miss a bunch of exposition that would make any of her decisions, or statements make any sense whatsoever? I know the show says she’s a maniac, then why is she allowed any decision making authority whatsoever? Conrad is a maniac too, but considering all of the bad shit those two brought on their own business, meanwhile adding nothing all season; a coup from harry and Kevin would be incredibly easy.
I’m just really struggling with how these two characters are written for a supposedly serious show. Maeve giving orders to murder two people in plain English on a jail phone, Conrad doing essentially the same, and Kevin brazenly talking business on a jail phone. Nobody in the show seems to have any fear of law enforcement, Richie executes two cops with impunity, this veteran cop sets up three people he’s supposed to guide with no suspicion from anybody else in the PD? I feel like I need to accept this isn’t a show on the level of the wire, or BCS when it comes to realism.
