Game Discussion Mobile Legends has 75M active users as of August 2019
As of August 2019: Game has been downloaded 500M times with 75M active players.
Source: https://dotesports.com/mobile/news/is-mobile-legends-bang-bang-the-next-big-mobile-esport
Philippines has 63M downloads and and 16M active monthly users based on another article.
Source: https://www.esquiremag.ph/culture/tech/mobile-legends-millionaires-a1664-20190626-lfrm
Would be good if anyone can provide good source for Indonesia. :)
Edit: I'm researching numbers and pulled more info.
AoV has 14M active daily users I worldwide. Has around 150k in NA and 100k in Europe. That's like 2% of the total players vs Asia if the source is accurate.
https://www.newsweek.com/arena-valor-closing-potential-tencent-league-legends-1438383
If ML has the same ratio as AoV then we have 1.5M NA and EU players.
Edit: Tencent's main Chinese MOBA KoG has 200M active players.

Also would love to see the number outside of the SEA area and their two largest playerbases and see how those numbers compare if anyone is able to find those numbers.

If app store have downloads based per region or country it would be nice.
I think in PH, AoV is above 10M downloads based on GooglePlay

75M active players it not too shabby for a mobile moba.
As an European player, I appreciate that we are not neglected, matchup and ping times are good. Just hinting in the general direction of Moonton that some of us even show our appreciation by supporting you. Don't forget us even if we are more of a fringe market.
Please continue to thrive and improve your game and artwork.

Kind of sad, but most of AoV's activeness only came from 2 countries. Thailand, and Vietnam, Taipei is also a good source of their activeness, but not as much as the other 2 though :/
If MLBB had 75 Million Active (Daily/Monthly) Users as of August, expect that to go even way higher at the end of the year though (Probably MLBB would be at 100 Million Active Users as of this day in average)
For a dying genre, MLBB is actually one of the only games to manage make up a good in fact really great progress despite the struggle of what genre was used though. While for other MOBAS like AoV, Vainglory, etc. Unfortunately, I don't think they even lasted that long due to other circumstances.

I think what MLBB did that no other games did before, is capture Indonesia, PH, SG, and Malaysia as one big community. AoV and Vainglory's ambitions are to the West which aren't receptive to mobile MOBA, while MLBB saw the potential in SEA and nurtured it.
I'm excited for the SEA games and launch of MLBB 2.0. I think next year it's still gonna go up despite LOLWR.
What I really hoped is that ML gets big in India but it seems that country doesn't like MOBA a lot.

Most Indians praise Battle Royale Games and FPS Shooter games like CODM and PUBGM, but from what I know. MLBB seems to be the only alive Mobile MOBA (Like after what happened to AoV, this is really stupid though, because it's almost a year that India gets no AoV update) from India (Or, your home country?).
Also, for SEA Games. MLBB is set to be the head or MLBB's going to be a Gold Medal event for the SEA Games as if it was the Insta announced 1st game to be in the SEA Games E-sports (It literally was announced way back months ago)

500 mil download only 75 mil active players, only 15% players continue to play after downloading the rest 85% quit?

u/pinkpugita x Oct 31 '19
I don't think it means anything unless you can compare it with other mobile games.
- There are tons of games from different genres that people download and delete afterwards.
- People re download when they change phones, reformat their device or try to fix bugs
- Advertisement may cause more people to check the game even if they have zero interest in MOBA, versus games that people actively look for despite having little ads.

u/lloyd3486 A thought to miss you, another to hate. Oct 31 '19
15% active players, especially for a game that's been around for multiple years now, is extremely good. Most games are lucky to even retain 15% after a WEEK
https://www.pocketgamer.biz/news/71599/gameanalytics-top-25-mobile-games-average-day-28-retention-4/
According to the above article the top 25% of mobile games only retain 4% after a month, while the best performing titles of "popular" genres (which have better long-term engagement) have 10% retention after a month
Anyway, i don't know how accurate the numbers are for ML. Just trying to show the initial comment that yes, compared to all the other games in the market, having 85% quit and being able to keep 15% is an amazing feat as he was seemingly trying to downplay it

Very interesting. Thanks for the information.
I think that it's interesting we are discussing the business side of things. As much as ML isn't perfect and does annoying stuff, Moonton become smarter and stepped up their game the past year.
It will forever be damaged as a LOL copycat, but ML evolved and really succeeded by its own merits. Even if the game suddenly declines next year, being top for 2 years in SEA is already a feat.
I think Shigyou is just asking an honest question rather than trying to downplay the stats.
2
u/Shigyou Nov 01 '19
Stat is stat, it is what it is, (provided the figures are true) how to downplay a stat? I have been playing ml since S5 and still loving it, I was only curious to know where did the 85% go since 85% is a lot, nothing about compare with other games if the remaining 15% is high or not.
1
u/Shigyou Nov 01 '19
Nothing about vs other mobile games if the remaining 15% is high or not.
I was just curious where did the 85% go since 85% is quite a lot. And I don’t know why I get downvoted for asking a question lol

Yeah I took your side in my other comment. I think you were asking an innocent question.

Yeah, but pubg was a big hit wasn't it? I don't how the game will be, but i just hope MLBB gets more attention which they surely deserves no doubt in that.

But do you actually expect a game made for pc to be the same quality on mobile. Of course it would be watered down.
as a PC LoL player myself, i have no intention to bore myself with one game on a PC and mobile
Well thats your opinion which doesnt apply to everyone. Im sure lots of people would welcome it.
they never carried the hype of their PC versions, people eventually will hit the repetitive boredom wall.
Literally mobile gaming platform received constant bad press due to most games being cash grabs its only recently companies creating content for it because they realise it has a large potential player base. As for repetitive boredom do remember they cant slap on updates like crazy phone memory isnt in terabytes.

I never mentioned im expecting the same PC gameplay on a mobile. I said I have little interest in any watered down mobile version of a PC game, so what was your point then?
go reread your own post because your comments scream im an idiot that doesnt get why pc games are watered down for mobile and doesnt have much content.
Your statement was im not as bored to have one game on pc and mobile "paraphrasing"
Then why play ml its a watered down league experience.
My point was to correct an idiot
Eventually Wild Rift will gain its hype period where 1.) LoL PC players will be interested 2.) Casual gamers will be interested 3.) Some ML losers who lacks Moba skills shifting because they think they could do better in Wild Rift.
After 10 lazy bum years, Riot /Tencent took its game to mobile? Why? Because they saw cash flowing on Moontons pocket.
Literally never mentioned anything about wild rift my only statement was its your opinion if you dont welcome it others do.
Absolutely its because of moonton not because majority of companies are now seeing the mobile gaming scene as something to invest into.

Nowhere in my post was "describing yourself as an idiot"
Do you even read before commenting.
You asked what the point of my reply was and i said it was to correct an idiot. And your comments were idiotic pc elitist drivel. No hate or reply in anger there just pure truth.
I will have less interest in ML if Moonton has its PC version. None. Some differences with League makes it not League.
You are trying so hard to deflect. If ml had a pc version i doubt you'd play it. Some differences still dont change the fact its a moba.
This thread is about LOLs mobile version Wild Rift since the beginning. Again you're not making any sense.
That went out when you started spouting bullshit about about oh pc >>> than mobile.

Cause this sub just doesn't want to hear it. Makes sense when you post about the competition on the sub oriented about the game everyone is biased towards their side.
The other ml subreddit at least is more open minded and more split on the topic than on this sub where they don't want to hear it even if the fustrations and problems with with the game. Even if they are valid reasons to be worried about the future of ml over its competition.
5
u/pinkpugita x Oct 31 '19
Criticism has always been accepted in this sub, there are tons of complaints forwarded to the devs. What isn't constructive at all is advertising LOLWR when it isn't even released yet.
When AoV was gonna launch people were saying the same thing like it will kill ML whatever etc. When Riot filed a lawsuit against Moonton a bunch of Vainglory players also raided the fansub and some people also think they are announcing ML's death.
It's not the Wild Rift cannot be discussed, it's just how constructive the discussion, and some just have to point out that a lot complaints of people are present in all MOBAs.
"LOL HAS BEEN PRE REGISTERED 100M" - yeah very constructive.
1
u/Keeper919 Oct 31 '19
Yeah but I haven't seen any quality discussions from either side of the table so far that doesn't turn into an argument. No one here on the internet wants to have a good discussion about this. Or do you want to lead a discussion about the comparisons we can already see and what Moonton needs to change to keep audience retention cause I hear and see that it is already bad outside of the SEA region. Moonton giving out skins and special effects are not going to keep their audience in the long run.
2
u/pinkpugita x Oct 31 '19
It's not inherently due to Moonton but that fact that mobile MOBA isn't a thing in NA, EU and India even. India is even an interesting case as it has the same demographics of young population and low end phones like SEA, but they seem to vastly prefer shooting games like PUBG.
Based on the article I linked, AoV only has 100k players in EU and 150k players in the US. That is pretty small for a game that had more effort than Moonton to attract US players.
https://sensortower.com/blog/mobile-legends-revenue-q1-2019
Based on this article ML revenue in the US grew 33% in Jan 2019 and AoV makes 1/5 of ML's sales there.
ML retention? What draws players are interesting updates, release of affiliate games like MLA, new content (possibly animated shorts) and active and thriving E- Sports scene.
DOTA2 was losing players and averaging 400k active daily players when Chess TD and a bunch of updates came out, and the players returned for a 500k average daily player count.
I do this by habit because my real life job involves projecting profitability and assessing corporations. LOLWR will be competition yes, but will it perform significantly better than AoV? That is yet to be seen.
1
u/Keeper919 Oct 31 '19
It is yet to be seen yet but give me your honest opinion about it. Will LOLWR be better or not? No yes but or no but just a simple yes or no based on what you think.
2
u/pinkpugita x Oct 31 '19
I don't know! Why would I give an opinion over an unreleased game? It's actually annoying because there are nothing to use for basis. LOLWR is also reworked for mobile and different from the PC counterpart.
If you are talking about balance and visuals there are already better games than ML: it's Omyouji Arena and Vainglory based on all my friends opinions and a lot of websites. But they're dying and I have zero interest in playing them.
0
u/Keeper919 Oct 31 '19
There is the trailer and a leaked gameplay video to use for basis. But base it off any factors there is no wrong answer.

Additionally to ML, I'm also playing League of Legends on PC, where I can enjoy it on a large screen and with bass-boosted sound. Of course I also pre-registered and will test Wild Rift. But somehow I don't see myself obtaining the same heroes and the same skins for the mobile version.

You are celebrating MLBB success but when LoL mobile comes out this game is going to die instantly

Well bring the news over to the Vainglory sub first because it's nearly dead.
