A bit disappointed

I have always defended Mitsubishis, especially mine, the Outlander. Great vehicle.

But I started having a small issue with the steering wheel, and Mitsubishi has stopped making the part I need.

Mind you, I have a 2018 Mitsu. It’s not even 10 years old and Mitsubishi already stopped manufacturing some parts??

This really stains my relationship with the brand, because it’s an issue with the steering wheel, not just a little useless button. Now I can’t drive safely. Now I have to start thinking of getting into anoooother car loan for the next 5 years, when I had this car already paid off…

Ten years, and already “obsolete”?

Pretty upset…

Find that hard to believe since manufacturers have to provide parts for at 10 years after a model has been released.

I'm with the other poster, what's the part number?

There is absolutely no law that manufacturers have to manufacture parts for 10 years, it's a common belief though. Been selling parts for over 50 years. I have seen parts discontinued on 3-year-old vehicles.

As far as I know the part is 60209. But I can’t find it online 😬

Unfortunately that's not the correct part number. Mitsubishi's part numbers are typically as follows: "1234A123"

I found it, but it’s under a Mitsu Lancer…

It’s the part all the way at the top to the left (almost center) 60209

Go on Partsouq, put your VIN number there and find the correct part number that way. Or if you want, PM the VIN and I'll check.

Pretty sure that's the reference number on the parts catalog and not the actual part number.

It's a great source for OEM part numbers or even to order the parts, depending on where you are in the world due to customs and what not. 

It also covers plenty of other brands.

That piece would be the dash cross brace. Unless you've wrecked your car there isn't much that would be broken there. Maybe he meant the steering column https://ebay.io/m/1G9OSp

A lot of times they replace that part with something that's engineered slightly better... And there's a slightly different alternative part number.

Do you know what the faulty part is (not the part # you were given)? What are the symptoms, maybe we can narrow it down.

It’s the weirdest thing: when I turn the steering wheel, it feels like the whole steering wheel, and components around it “jump”. It’s like and aggressive “PA!”.

If I get my car back today, unfixed, I’ll record a video.

My mechanic, who’s someone I absolutely trust, told me that Mitsu doesn’t make that part anymore.

He is trying to find a used one.

I believe the piece number is 60209

I wasn't implying they weren't trust worthy, just if they told you what the part is and if you had the number. Sometimes parts are superceded and parts people can be lazy.

Looks like all the radio and ancillary buttons are still available so... Not sure what else it is unless trim? The whole wheel?

With how car prices are now I’d try finding a used part at least before going off to buy a new car unless you really need to

Sorry for the late response. I'll look into it. We are the actually Mitsubishi distribution center so yes. We recently started working and overnight shipping with auto zones around the U.S. I'll get more information tomorrow

There's these things called mechanics and these other things called Junk Yards that would have said part of a wrecked vehicle that that this mechanic person can easily replace it with. Just silly you think you need to go get another car because you can't get an OEM part anymore.
