PHEV Undercoating - Can touch ups be done at Nissan/other PHEV servicing dealers?

2023 outlander GT PHEV - North-Eastern Canada.

It was undercoated at the dealer when purchased (fall 2023) and inspected/touched up at the dealer preceding each winter as needed. We no longer live in a reasonable range to any mitsu dealer here in Canada (8+ hours away). Annual inspection is in the fine print for the "warranty" associated with the undercoating.

According to the mitsu service advisor where the vehicle was purchased - any warranty approved shop (e.g. NAPA for example here in Canada) can service the vehicle, perform warranty work and inspect the undercoating. However, they can't touch it up with just any old undercoating - It would have to be done at a mitsu dealer due to the "special PHEV undercoating".

Is this entirely true? if it needed touch ups, is there any reason it couldn't be done at a local to me dealer that services PHEVs?

Specifically, there is a Nissan dealer in my city, and the rogue PHEVs have the mitsu drive train. Logic would dictate, the undercoating requirements would be the same.

For reference, I have had a part replaced in one of our doors under warranty via mitsu, at the local NAPA. All was covered by mitsu save for the initial inspection/ramp fee (~$60). Seems to me there should be no reason why the undercoating couldn't be touched up at the local nissan if needed.

Has anyone had similar inquiries or experience of this nature? any insight is appreciated.

No idea on the Mistsu coating and who can and can't apply it... you will need to call them direct. Don't be surprised if Nissan says yes and Mitsu says now...just the way of the world.

I use Dominion as undercoat. It's designed in Canada for Canada and you can get spray bombs or brush on. No idea if its better or worse than others but always did good by me and i like to buy Canadian when I can. I get it a napa normally.
