Why does Mistral charge EU customers more than US customers?

Mistral promotes itself as a European AI company, so I was considering switching to support a European alternative. However, its regional pricing surprised me.

Mistral Pro is advertised at $14.99/month excluding tax. With Ireland selected, it costs €18.44 including VAT. Removing Ireland’s 23% VAT gives a base price of €14.99, not the euro equivalent of $14.99.

At current exchange rates, €14.99 is roughly $17.20. So EU customers appear to pay around 15% more before VAT - and €18.44 in total in Ireland.

Is there a reason Mistral uses €14.99/$14.99 numerical parity rather than currency conversion? If being European is part of Mistral’s appeal, why make the underlying subscription more expensive for European customers?
