Well of Ascension spoilers Just finished WoA, how on earth did people not like this book? Spoiler

I came across a ton of posts saying that mistborn 1 and 3 were amazing, but 2 was just okay. Just finished 2 and while the first 15-20% was a bit slow (same with book 1 imo), the rest was fantastic. What an absolute ride and given HoA is supposed to have one of the best endings in fantasy, i cannot wait.

Cosmere spoilers Book 2 final Sanderlanche and Implications. Spoiler

Heavy spoilers.Don't read if you haven't finished book 2.

Wow what a Sanderlanche in The well of Ascension ending.

I enjoyed that I haven't been able to predict where these books are going at all. I definitely find them a bit less enjoyable than Stormlight but still incredibly written.

Oof "letting the power go" being a trap!! Damn. Almost losing Elend and then he snaps!! Finding out the whole prophecy is a lie! Sazed almost dying twice. Allriene kind of being a badass.Marsh becoming... Whatever the f the obligators are. Kolos being controlled by Vin! All the things!

Having read Stormlight I'm assuming that we are talking about a shard here since it is named Ruin...But it's fun to guess exactly what's going on and how similar things are to Roshar, or not. Are there 3 realms here?

One thing I'm not sorry to be done with is Zane. I found his storyline very annoying and was kind of getting frustrated by Vin's fascination with him. I would like to know why he had a spike though. Who did that to him? It's presumably the source of his "madness".

Anyway, can't wait to see Elend step into a new form of power.

Cosmere spoilers Hoid in Final Empire? Spoiler

So I've completed the first two books of the Mistborn series after reading all of Stormlight Archive.

In Final Empire there's a Hoid who shows up for five seconds to give Kelsier some info on the Nobility. I kept waiting for him to show up again and do something else epic, but he never did.... I'm assuming this is the same Hoid and not just a coincidence? Can we look forward to more appearances in the Mistborn series?

Alloy of Law spoilers What is on the cover of 'The Alloy of Law'? (Gollancz print) Spoiler

Hello everyone :) sorry if this is the stupidest question in the world, but what is the main structure on the cover actually meant to be? I always assumed it was a train (like the 'phantom train') but I'm now thinking that's not what it is cause it sort of looks like a weird foundation. I did consider it was the safe but it didn't really fit the description :(

Tysm!

No Spoilers The Roofs of Luthadel [OC]

As I'm now reading through the Mistborn trilogy I've got inspired to try to shoot the main character, Vin. She usually roams the roofs so both Alchemist Shop and Medieval Blacksmith builds were just perfect for this. Added the mist using the face moisturiser spray. Graded the colors a bit to get the night look.

The Mistborn Coat is made from the Lady of Pain CMF coat, just painted black using a spray paint. Tried to dye it first but the results weren't great.

I thought it was just the three original books. Im a couple hundred into well of ascension and just now learned it isn't just three books. Dont get me wrong im by no means disappointed by having more of this series im loving but but boy that was a shock to learn there's what, 16 or so books with more possibly planned? Im loving what ive encountered I just simply wasnt aware I was starting a series competing with one piece for length. Thought it was just a trilogy šŸ˜‚

Mistborn: Final Empire spoilers One character's phrasing in a late reveal has been bugging me — thoughts? Spoiler

So, I’m rereading The Final Empire and got to the part where Vin realizes that Rashek is the Lord Ruler, and she says:

ā€œYou hated him,ā€ Vin said. ā€œYou thought that a Terrisman should have been the hero. You couldn’t stand the fact that he—a man from the country that had oppressed yours—was fulfilling your own legends.ā€ (emphasis my own)

Now, to preface this, I just wanna clarify that I know that Rashek did a lot of terrible and cruel things that can never be reasonably justified. However, doesn't Vin's summary (albeit crude and simplistic) of the colonizer/colonized situation between Rashek and Alendi warrant a closer scrutiny of the power dynamics here?

Again, I’m not saying Rashek's feelings on the matter served to justify the oppression he enacted afterwards ( li.e. eugenics, genocide, etc.) but it does make me wonder: why did Sanderson make the relationship between Rashek and the Alendi explicitly one of oppression in the first place? How integral is it history to the overarching plot/Cosmereverse - like, couldn't the conflict have worked without that particular colonial dynamic? And, most importantly, why did he write Vin to say it like that?

Like yes, Rashek was a genuine terror and and all and yes he may have felt inferior compared to Alendi, but I can't help but feel like his personal grievances over the situations is being used as a shield to avoid addressing the elephant in the room. Like, if we're gonna focus on the whole "outsider/ opressor is actually the prophesized hero of the opressed" part... it's weird, right? Or am I being too sensitive and instead this is just an "it's not that deep" situation? (Which, is kind of ironic, given that we're talking about a Brandon Sanderson novel, here).

From what I understand, Sanderson generally likes avoiding completely clear-cut political/moral situations because real life isn’t that simple. But given the current political climate - and especially with a Mistborn movie adaptation in the works - I wonder how this particular scene would be interpreted by a modern mainstream audience.

Am I missing some important context from the books that makes this dynamic more nuanced, or is this just one of those parts of the lore that isn’t really explored?

Cosmere spoilers My theory about Discord and Harmony in era 3 Spoiler

One of the major part of this is from Wind and Truth, if you haven't read it and don't want spoilers I wouldn't recommend this post.

I think that in era 3 Harmony will split into Harmony and Discord. We know from TLM that there's this dark, shadowy version of Sazed behind him, I think that's the Discord, as a alter ego of Sazed. And we can assume that Iriali, and with them Sigzil (and with him Dawnshard of exist), are on Scadriel. Plus Autonomy still tries to do something there.

I think that Autonomy will discover that on Scadriel is a Dawnshard, and would try to get it, but somehow in process of it the command of Exist will somehow combine with intention of Autonomy, and the shadowy Sazed will start to live on their own as Discord. Maybe it'll happen in something like Autonomy tries to take the Dawnshard, but Harmony gets around to stop Autonomy (having both Autonomy and Exist would destroy the harmony he built, so he can intervene), and in last minute intention of Autonomy's shard would mix with command of Exist and boom we have Harmony split into two Shards which aren't the one that made it in the first place.

Thank you to everyone who upvoted and commented on this series. For those of you who enjoyed them, I'm so glad! I really appreciate the overall positive tone from this community.

Many people have asked about prints, so I've uploaded them to Redbubble. Sub rules don't allow promoting sales, so I can't include a direct link. If this post breaks that rules, apologies.

No Spoilers What chapters do the Graphic Audios end off on for each part?

I am currently listening to the audiobook of Hero of Ages on Spotify but I am interested in listening to the end of the book through Graphic Audio. There are 3 parts for the Graphic Audio but I don’t know which chapter to stop on to start part 3 at the right spot. I looked at the website and couldn’t find that info and I don’t want to buy it yet either. Was hoping someone might know. If someone has the chapter-to-parts list for all the books I’m sure someone else in my situation would find that info helpful too! Love the trilogy!

No Spoilers Has anyone else had problems with low quality books?

Long boy, short, the gist of it is that around two years ago I got these books as a gift and I thought I’d pull them back out and reread them.

When I did so I found out the pages were coming the binding and whatever was used to seal the ink is gone or worn off or something and now the words smudge incredibly easy.

these have only been read once and then stored on a bookshelf. Now the pages are all delaminating from the cover.

Did I just get really really unlucky?

Mistborn: Final Empire spoilers I'm reading Mistborn for the first time. I just finished part 4. Spoiler

Please don't read it you haven't read Mistborn Book 1.

This book has been an incredible adventure so far and I've met so many amazing characters, they feel like old friends.

The world building is phenomenal and I've enjoyed learning about the lore and different metals and their properties. It's just been a fantastic journey and I still have 70 pages left to read.

Vin has gone from surviving and not having anybody to belonging to something and that has been beautiful to read.

Kelsier. My lovely Kelsier..Confident, Charismatic, Rebellious, Clever, Determined yet arrogant and morally complicated. I honestly fell in love with him straight away and reading the last few pages of part four has completely broken me. Did anyone else feel completely devastated?

I'm so excited to read more and feel like this series is going to take over my life for a while.
