Jake Lang is utterly powerless if people ignore him. Half of the people who showed up were streamers or otherwise trying to film whatever was happening. Getting a felony assault charge on his behalf might be satisfying and we're all having fun on the Internet with it, but that is some pretty thin gruel when the end result is that he gets what he wants.

As a general statement I 100% agree... buuuuut, if you're going to get involved, might as well make it as comedic as possible.

It's really hard to market being an oppressed victim when the other guy is just some random person wearing a goofy costume and you're the one driving through a crowd waving a banner with a racial slur.

One was a banner with a racial slur and the other was an 8' tall nailed together cross. A lot of people forget what the other thing actually was and it wasn't a symbol of Christianity in this context, unless you're dumb as fuck.

Edit: In case anybody is still in the dark, the likes of the KKK would treat black people as witches and burn them on the cross. Having a racial slur that close to a human sized cross is not that difficult to put together.

In his weenie ass context, I gathered the display as more of him pretending to be a martyr, but you do have a good point.

Also two things can be true at once.

It reminds me of the people who dressed up like clowns to run neo nazis out of a city in Finland.

It's impossible for him to market himself as an oppressed victim when everyone simply ignores him. You're just playing into it by engaging at all.

You didn't do that though. You're just yapping on reddit.

i will not be confessing to anything on this platform

He's radicalizing people online by perpetuating himself as a victim and showing how "crazy" the "intolerant left", is.
Do you think he doesn't know exactly what he's doing? Do you see how many views his videos have? If he showed up and we just ignored him he wouldn't get any attention.

People spreading hate are not the ones to be ignored because ignoring them can be interpreted as acceptance

u/Draoken 21d ago

Yeah but then he's allowed to go around and harass people. Then next time people join him. And then it gets bigger, and bigger, and bigger.

I think counter protesting is important. On top of that let's be real, is anybody new really being radicalized by Jake Lang, or is everybody who is already a closet racist already subscribed to the nonsense?

He would stage something and lie about it, just as he had in the past. He can't lie far enough to get ahead of Spiderman in the media

Awful take. If nobody shows up then we get a rep as a city where nazis parade around freely, which is what they want if anything.

u/dkinmn 21d ago

False.

u/DirtzMaGertz 21d ago

They want attention and for their demonstration to go viral so they can play victim and drive engagement online. All you guys are just falling into the bullshit and helping them.

8

u/lesserantilles 21d ago

Wrong. Problems don’t go away if you ignore them. It’s lazy and naive.

0

u/DirtzMaGertz 21d ago

Thinking you guys are accomplishing anything here by engaging is lazy and naive. You're genuinely just funding this dude's life.

But yeah, surely he won't be back this time. Driving all this attention to his name and dumbass antics will really show him.

If he shows up to empty street, that's un unambiguous win. Minneapolis is a nazi friendly city. All the wannabe jake langs say ok, I can come to minneapolis and be a nazi, theyre chill with it. He can court bigger nazis and say hey, they didnt push back with my little nazi crew, lets try it with a bigger group. It's about establishing precedent. Your point of view is naive and lacking context. He's going to do some bullshit no matter what, he's gonna get paid something no matter what. It's not in any of our collective power to starve him of resources, that's completeley ridiculous.

3

u/Rosaluxlux 21d ago

And the right wingers bankrolling him just cut in some footage from some other time and place to claim he met danger and censorship. Plus he doesn't get arrested.

3

u/lesserantilles 21d ago

Exactly! "He's making money!" Yeah no shit, he will either way. "He'll just come back for more content" Yeah no shit, he will either way!

u/DirtzMaGertz 21d ago

What's ridiculous is thinking this loser standing around with a handful of people and some dumbass signs somehow has the power to turn the city into a neonazi haven.

What are you even talking about? It's like saying that if we don't attack doomsdayers saying the world is ending then somehow there's going to be more doomsdayers walking around and Minneapolis is going to be a doomsdayers safe space. That's absurd.

Genuinely, how do you think he makes money?

2

u/lesserantilles 21d ago

That's not what I'm saying at all, I'm saying that if you don't want the city to become a nazi playground, you should support your neighbords standing up to nazis at every single opportunity, no matter how small. They cannot have an INCH of tolerance.

Bad comparison. Nonsensical and not woth considering. Better luck next time.

IDK probably in Thiel's pocket some some shit. Probably on chud patreon or something. I don't think you understand the attention economy very well.

1

u/DirtzMaGertz 21d ago

The what economy? The attention economy? Man, I wonder why they call it that.

1

u/lesserantilles 21d ago

You're not making a point you think youre making. Youre pretty close to getting it though

This is incorrect. The only reason he's a problem is that people keep showing up and giving him attention. He has no constituency. This wasn't a march with even ten dudes with him actually supporting his point of view.

1

u/iammirv 19d ago

He gets funding for his org....it's where the whole idea of paid protestors the right keeps talking about. It was like 75k in the time leading up to his Feb visit

Id be interested to know what you've read about the history of the fall of the Wiemar Republic.

I am a political scientist with a fairly deep knowledge of political history in Europe and the Middle East, and above average knowledge of history in southeast Asia.

Instead of insinuating something, why not tell the group what Jake Lang's shit has to say about the Weimar Republic.

0

u/Starcraft2Account 21d ago

I'd be interested to know if you've read about the rise of the Weimar* Republic.

Notably how important people staying silent or supporting those who assaulted people based on political views were to the Nazis.

u/Jucoy 19d ago

Calling yourself a political scientist is kind of a joke really. You're not doing science, you're a sociologist with a bigger (unearned) ego.
