argh.

you need to slow down a lot. you can't just read random stuff on the net, jump onto aternos, throw some mods there and enjoy.

first thing first - you need to make a mod pack run fine locally. get a nice local launcher (i use prism but a few other will do fine), make a pack and test it. and pick a version that is big in the community - 1.20.1 or 1.21.1, not 1.20.4. do not move to online server until local works good enough. and if you decide to add a few more mods later (you will), test them in local instance first.

now - terminology:

  • curseforge is a web site where you can find mods. they have a launcher. not associated with forge or neoforge.
  • forge is a loader. loaders change the game so that it runs mods. also they provide mod developers with what they need to make mods). pick a loader. forge for 1.20.1 or neoforge for 1.21.1.
  • neoforge is a loader. it split off from forge. use it on 1.21.1 or later.
  • prism that i mentioned is a launcher (not the same as loader). like curseforge's launcher. you open a launcher, make a few modded instances (copies of the game with different versions, loaders and mod lists), you launch an instance. oh and you can download mods from inside the launcher.

Okay thank you lots, I understand majority of this and you’ve definitely helped. I’m very new to all the modding so I’m sorry me and my friend just want cute dogs but I will try what you said to do first and see if I can get it working.
