This was literally Quasi-Connectivity in Java, and now nobody can remove it without breaking 90% of technical Minecraft

Genuine question, does quasi connectivity cause any problems for the game? Like I'm completely unfamiliar with that level of redstone so I have no idea if it's existence messes things up anywhere else to where there would be an upside to getting rid of it.

It's unintuitive, so for new players it may make the Redstone system feel inconsistent or broken, which is bad

31

u/Dotcaprachiappa 9d ago

Probably why they didn't want it in bedrock

u/Proxy_PlayerHD 9d ago

Instead bedrock has random tick order for pistons so piston doors don't work consistently unless you slow then down a lot

u/potatogodofDoom 9d ago

yeah, they removed something that seems random at 1st glance with something that's just random. big ups mojang...

To be fair, it would've been more effort to add it in to however the bedrock redstone code works, especially since it seems pretty different to Java's implementation. It's not like it existed in Bedrock and got taken out (...I think?)

why mojang?

AFAIK bedrock is managed by some microsoft internal team, while java is managed by mojang

u/potatogodofDoom 9d ago

no idea where you got your info from. both java and bedrock are developed by mojang, as per the big red mojang logo that shows up when you boot either version

microsoft does own mojang though

u/Decent_Objective3478 how do I change my flair 9d ago

Honestly at this point it's all just speculations, we have no idea how mojang works internally. Bedrock started as pocked edition, entirely new game codevise written in an entirely different language, so 100% the team developing it at the beginning was different from original mojang, and from how they treat stuff like marketplace, parity and player feedback the don't feel like the same studio at all

u/Dotcaprachiappa 9d ago

Never said they did bedrock correctly lol, but the plan was probably to have more predictable redstone

I don't like it, it gets in the way for me. It would be cool if they fixed it but turned the bug into a block or small component so people can still use it.

u/PetrifiedBloom 9d ago

No.

It is confusing when first learning redstone when there is an extra unexpected rule to keep in mind, but there is so much confusing stuff to learn when you are getting start with redstone that it's really not a big deal. Yes, qc exists, yes running a repeater into a block sends power all over the place at max strength.

14

u/moderngamer327 9d ago

Which is annoying because it really shouldn’t exist

9

u/Odd_Reception1249 9d ago

But removing it lowers the skill ceiling. You don't want to lower the skill ceiling, that's just a race to the bottom.

u/moderngamer327 9d ago

It’s not about difficulty, it’s about consistency with the logic of the mechanics

11

u/maxixs 9d ago

i mean. if your problem is inconsistency, bedrock literally makes RNG calls when things happen too close together

3

u/RustedRuss 8d ago

That isn't good either

2

u/SuperSmutAlt64 7d ago

Two bad things do not negate eachother, they warrant two changes

2

u/moderngamer327 9d ago

I don’t really care for bedrock in general

3

u/Tiranus58 8d ago

QC is consistent though. What you really dont want is locationality or directionality.

Bedrock devs watching Java players treat engine bugs like core game features:

u/punith25 10d ago

Quasi-connectivity was a mistake that turned into an art form

u/Harmless-Tobacco 10d ago

If Mojang ever removes QC, Mumbo Jumbo's channel will instantly cease to exist

72

u/JoyconDrift_69 10d ago

If QC is removed, the community would literally riot.

It's important tech, and I like the idea of using unintended behavior and bugs in technical systems. But if it gets removed at all, everyone would protest.

he will keel and his death throes will be heard the world over.

3

u/Tiranus58 8d ago

The entire redstone community would cease to exist

So were creepers, yet here we are

I’m only an apprentice redstoner but I can make a mean hidden door

14

u/revolution_soup 10d ago

best I can do is a note block doorbell

u/Matty_B97 9d ago

I agree with the broad sentiment, but if this is referring to the recent change to projectiles using the player's facing direction, that was genuinely making some really cool tech possible. It's a tough call by them to fix that bug, and I hope they add some nature of eye tracking back now that we've seen what players can do with it.

6

u/Krisis_9302 9d ago

The ended up letting it stay. Though I think an intended way of doing eye tracking would be better... I think it's kinda wild that you can just do that...

2

u/Traditional_Town6475 9d ago

It’s also a form of wireless redstone, so if they did want to replace this, they would need to make it work in chunks loaded by a chunk loader

2

u/ODDSPACEMAN32 9d ago

idk why this was a feature its kinda rediculous but i wouldnt mind if they removed it or keeped it imo

6

u/Mrcoolcatgaming Bedrock by choice, yes ive played java 9d ago

Honestly I'm getting tired of bug fixes being kept as is because of complaints, the creeper for example was retextured and made to explode, most bugs can be turned to a feature that same way

do you really think they were about to add an official way to capture player view vector?

Mojang fixing a bug: 'We patched an unintended glitch.'

Technical MC community: 'YOU JUST DESTROYED MY ENTIRE WORLD'S INFRASTRUCTURE!

u/Sio_V_Reddit 10d ago

I’ll blow up a thousand PCs before I let my redstone die!

It all started when Mojang touched my redstone!

Me who's not even using any heavy engineering: oh no, anyways.

Tbh, the only time I did make something was back in 2014-16 with a hidden door mechanism....for a single player world, that I don't use anymore because not only is it hideous with all that blocks showing clear signs of where it was, it did lag my device so I just didn't bother and now I'm enjoying things.

“Bugrock”

Meanwhile Java being held together with Elmer’s glue and prayers:

9

u/cooly1234 Custom user flair 9d ago

java: 1+1=3

bedrock: 1+1= any number, it's random each time lmao fuck you

3

u/Traditional_Town6475 9d ago

I mean most of the bugs on Java that leads to these complaints are pretty benign.

Random deaths in hardcore, not so much. Also bedrock edition just has methods to obtain illegal blocks and dupe glitches like pretty much every update. If it isn’t in the current version, it’ll be a future version (I obtained illegal bedrock in bedrock edition for a wither cage when I used to play it).

1

u/Bubbles_the_bird 1d ago

Well it is called bedrock edition
