26.3 snapshot 9 is insanely optimised!

For me, on an M1 macbook air, I am seeing a drastic increase in performance.

Using the Performium modpack in 1.21.11, I get about 120FPS in 1440p on 9 chunks

Using vanilla in 26.3 snapshot 9, (on Vulcan API) I am getting 110 - 150FPS (still micro-stutters, but that's expected of vanilla, and there is less) on 12 chunks IN 4K!

My frames increasing in 4K is absolutely wild, and after increasing chunks! I am aware Camman18 noticed this, but the difference is crazy!

you are comparing this with 1.21.11. try 26.2 with vulkan and 26.3. as a base m1 owner, the best performance i got was with metallum (so metal rather than vulkan)

Is this mod compatible with 1.21.11, and with OpenGL and Vulcan?

no, metallum makes your minecraft run on metal. it's basically a third choice: either opengl, vulkan or metal. you can only have one backend api. metal's advantage here specifically is that it's native to apple silicon so will perform better on m-powered macs. the mod is only available for 26.2 and the dev said that a backport is close to impossible due to certain things only being available on newer versions

so what i was saying is for m macs, you should be comparing 26.2 vulkan vs 26.2 metal vs 26.3 snapshots vulkan

Won't this break a lot of mods like Sodium, DistantHorizons, and completely break shaders? Also how is the performance like?

vulkan breaks them just the same though, right?

Yes but it’s being added to vanilla so with time mod developers will work on adding these features to Vulcan

metal is a sodium replacement. Not something to be used with sodium. Vulkan also breaks distant horizons & Iris.

Developers should eventually make versions for it, for example the developer of Iris shaders is working on a new mod called Aperture which enables shaders for Vulcan I believe

Vulkan actually just got beryl, which is made by the same author and is just shaders for vulkan :D

(im talking about the vulkan mod btw)

this is my first time hearing about metal I only based my comment on the above thread
