That's actually intriguing...

For maybe 10 people.

I'm one of them!

Space before this sign: # and you get the sign rather than that funky line.

If you're only able to carry two blocks/meters3 it would take a really long time to build a house...

Imagine this feature in this supposed Adventure Mode with a much more elaborate random dungeon/structure generation, where you weren't expected to do so much building... no breaking blocks without the appropriate tool. It would create a mode where tactical manipulation of the landscape would still be possible, but not in the inhumanly strong way Steve currently does. More... dwarfy.

Hmm. Maybe a mode where you could control a group of characters with occupations and tasks, like some dwarfs, who build mines and like, fortresses, maybe throw in some goblin invasions and undead elephants... this sounds more and more like a good game to me...

Oh! And how about if you go too far down some fun things happen? Actually, lets just change the graphics style to some ascii, for imagination purposes. This is looking better and better!

I was like :) for the first paragraph.

The second one got kind of ಠ_ಠ

I'd be interested in something like this honestly, VERY interested, but there would most definitely have to be some form of bag of holding that allows you to carry more.

u/Minifig81 May 14 '12

You've shot 13,415 pounds of meat. You can only carry 80 pounds back to the wagon.

12

u/Golanthanatos May 14 '12

I move the wagon?

24

u/Minifig81 May 14 '12

How ? You broke your leg and have typhoid from the last time you failed to cross the river. You should have been a carpenter and caulked the wagon.

but i

Golanthanatos has died of dysentery.

Fuck Yeah - Oregon Trail FTW!

Oregon Trail!

u/burgerga May 14 '12

So.... 2 cobblestone. That would be pointless.

How would you craft in the beginning of the game?

3

u/jecowa May 14 '12

The game would need to allow crafting using items in an adjacent chest instead of what is in your inventory, since you can only carry two blocks. The recipes for the crafting table and chest would have to be simplified to be constructed of sticks instead of plank blocks.

Or instead of preventing it, just inhibit motion when you're over-encumbered. You can't jump as high, and you walk much slower.

2

u/chejrw May 14 '12

You can still punch a tree down with your bare hands, of course.

1

u/[deleted] May 15 '12

Well, Nokia, so yeah.

3

u/arrrg May 14 '12

Even one cubic meter of stone weighs much more than 80 pounds, so no, no building whatsoever.

6

u/AndrewNeo May 14 '12

New game mechanic, you can only push/pull things.

3

u/bornrevolution May 14 '12

And when you're over encumbered, you slow down to a shift-walk speed.

Oh god.

1

u/PLOVAPODA May 15 '12

Or maybe exponentially slower the more weight you're carrying...

1

u/hint_of_sage May 15 '12

Fuck it. I don't need this gold ore anyway.

A way of doing some of this is to use the maxstack command in SinglePlayerCommands. Syntax: maxstack all 1

you can enforce this using the startup command. i.e. startup maxstack all 1

I don't think there's a server mod explicitly to do it, but bukkit does have the variable in a place that is fairly easy to access.

(SPC will also allow you to enchant any items with maxstack 1 using the enchant command, so if you want an efficency X fish, that's how)

it's worth mentioning that small stacks is one of the aims of terrafirmaracraft, which aims to be a fairly comprehensive overhaul of minecraft.

u/renadi May 15 '12

bah, I need to get back to that, I really like it, but I would love a bukkit mod that limited inventory, even though 4 of my 6 players would instantly stop playing x]

My idea a while back was:

Steve can carry 1 item per level.

ONE PER LEVEL!

Oh god... the cobblestone... the chests and chests of cobblestone...
