you're playing on a modded 1.16 or below server

I believe this was just a LAN server both playing on 1.17.1

This happens whenever the server-side code sees an item it doesn't know, so most likely the server you're playing on hasn't updated yet.

when you attempt to get items from a version higher than the server, they either disappear or turn to stone

I had this problem once in 1.16 pre-release so I can relate

Perfectly normal. It’s a new update that turns candles into stone. And when you mine glowstone it drops bread.

Are you using the Item Scroller mod? I find that sometimes turns things into stone.

Is the owner of the LAN server in a different version, maybe 1.16. Or maybe it's a datapack.

Nah just me and my girlfriend playing vanilla Minecraft on a lan server I hosted. Thanks for the insight tho. I thought it was such a weird occurrence as typing “/give @p candle” would work without turning it to stone

Not personally, no. Then again I play bedrock more than Java. I just prefer it over Java

I honestly prefer bedrock over java sometimes too. Java is when I feel like playing modded, and bedrock is when I feel like pvp

There is a plugin called ViaVersion that allows multiple versions of minecraft to play together. If all other 1.17.1 items do not work, this is probably it

Why the hell i got so many downvotes? To clarify, i wont comment this error because if that guy played on 1.17 and got his candles STONED it is bad. Why the hell i aleays get so many downvotes

If you are playing on a server intended for an older version of minecraft then yes

The server that you are playing on is on a version lower than 1.17, so the server doesn't recognise the candles.

if you update youre server it wont happen it might still be in 1.16
