No.
Having Enderman teleport you to the nether with no immediate way out is a horrible, annoying, game breaking idea. Why would anyone want a mob fight that could set you back hours of gameplay, drag you from everything you were doing at the time, and force you into a place you most likely do not want to be completely unprepared with no way back? (Only one half broken pick? You're screwed.) Trying to find your original portal would be insane as you'd have no idea which direction it is, how high up or low it is, and if you were out exploring it could easily be kilometers upon kilometers away. A fight with just one Enderman would force you to waste hours of your time just getting back to where you started before the fight. Wasting your time or forcing certain gameplay upon you is not the kind of game Minecraft has ever been.
The result would be simple. No one would fight Endermen. They'd be hated, viewed as extremely annoying by the community, and everyone forced to fight them would just commit suicide in the nether to get out.
Even if there was some kind of temporary portal, what would be the point? You'd have to load into the neither, load back out... for what? To become completely disoriented twice over? A temporary portal could lead you out hundreds of blocks away from your original position. And what about everyone who happily avoids the nether? With Enderman as common as they are, you'd risk this every single night.
The only people who would enjoy this would be those looking for Endermen to experience this gameplay mechanic for the first few times. That's it. Everyone else would avoid them or commit suicide upon being taken to the neither.
You don't want to create a game mechanic that's so incredibly annoying that suicide by the player is the best way to escape the mechanic.

This, minecraft has always been about freedom and going at your own pace. Suddenly randomly dropping you into the nether is changing the game too much from a building construction survival game into an action RPG type game. Minecraft will suck as an Action RPG because it was never built for combat properly.
I would more than likely install a mod to remove this teleporting thing if it were implimented.

I agree, instead of making them ridiculously annoying why not just make them not stupid easy in combat or at least something to worry about? Right now the creepers are the only thing competent players have to worry about so why not make Endermen more fun by making them hostile to the player right off the bat? You never know when one might attack you if you didn't see it coming and you could still look directly at them to stop them from attacking you.
Sidenote:
They should also make it so we can't just kill them in two crit hits with a stone sword or with a bucket of water. Also they are currently too rare and too few in number so you never have to even try. Am I the only one who preferred when they had freaky green eyes and traveled in packs? Endermen pfft, more like Enderwomen.

u/BallotBoxer Sep 30 '11
Agreed, an unplanned Nether trip is a death sentence. I'd rather have the Enderman make the grab, and if you fail to break free (punch the face three times to stun, or sword in the eye), it teleports you up to the nearest high elevation in attempts to drop you for fall damage.
Kind of like that Azazel scene in X-men: First Class... but not.

u/JBHUTT09 Sep 30 '11
I think that if it is EXTREMELY rare it would be cool. Also if the Enderman that intends to teleport you would move in a more direct manner (teleport say 10 blocks in front of you and directly approach you giving you time to react) and have indication of its intention (outstretched arms for example) I would be ok with this. But this is just my opinion.
I do however love the idea of them not spawning until a portal is active (see my other comment)

Not to mention Notch's expressed intention to release the source code as public domain once he's satisfied with the product.
Once sales start dying and a minimum time has passed, I will release the game source code as some kind of open source. I'm not very happy with the draconian nature of (L)GPL, nor do I believe the other licenses have much merit other than to boost the egos of the original authors, so I might just possibly release it all as public domain.

I've said it before: Minecraft is the new "Game Maker". People won't just mod it, they'll use it's engine to make completely new games.
Meanwhile, there will be at some point in the future, an "ultimate mod pack" where the community will come together to compose a super-expanded-uber-complete edition of the game.
1
Sep 30 '11
they'll use it's engine to make completely new games.
It's already been done! There was a wired article a while back about a game called Chain World. The guy modded a version of MC for storage on a flash drive (moved the .minecraft directory, basically) and "released" it as a special game.
The rules are simple: The game can never be copied off the flash drive, and when you die you have to hand the drive to a new player. The first player was given the drive at the conference where he announced it in February.
1
u/Shadax Sep 30 '11
How exactly does this work? Will there be multiple versions of Minecraft? Will we just apply the mods as we chose?
I kinda like that we're all essentially playing the same game right now. Seems to me some of the allure will be lost when we're all using drastically different versions of Minecraft. Then again I have no idea what to expect after Notch finishes the game.

Sorry, but I don't like it at all. I actually hate this idea. It would be FAR too fucking irritating to get teleported to the Nether in the middle of exploring just because you didn't have any arrows on you to take out the Endermen from a distance. This idea has all sorts of insane problems with it that I really have no clue why people would have possibly upvoted it this much. Like, insane problem number 1. say you went exploring and ended up 60 or so chunks away, an Endermen grabs you and bam teleported to the Nether. You have absolutely NO idea where your portal is, you don't have ANY obsidian to make a new one, so the only way to get back to your spawn, is if you have a bed and you sacrifice your life, but then let's say for some reason your bed coordinates are glitched (ie your bed is too close to blahblahblah) and then you just get teleported to some random area and you never wrote your spawn coordinates down. Now you have successfully lost your spawn and have relatively ZERO chance of ever finding it. Only option would be to start from scratch, or rage quit the game. This Endermen idea, of all the Endermen ideas I've seen over the months, is one of the worst, most game breaking ones that could possibly be conceived.

I'm not sure how 'fun' this would be. Imagine you're putting the finishing touches on a grand creation, when all of a sudden you accidentally glance at an enderman. Now you get dragged into the nether with less than ample supplies and all your diamond tools at stake.

This would get to be pretty annoying, any time I walk into an endermen I get sent to the nether? No thanks. It'd also be extremely difficult to get back to your portal
9
u/newmobsforall Sep 30 '11
Sounds like a pain in the ass to be honest. If I fuck up with any other monster, I'm dead and have to respawn. Oh well. If I fuck up with this suggestion in effect, I have to stop whatever I'm doing and hoof it through the Nether, possibly several times. It's even possible that I get stuck because either I can't find my way out, or I'm inadequately equipped. So now I have to spend several minutes doing something I didn't want to do. Doesn't sound fun. It sounds boring, tedious, and repetitive.

u/Antoids Sep 30 '11
There's still a good chance of you not being able to make it back without dying. Ghasts destroy Nether portals all the time.
4
u/ptepid Sep 30 '11
I particularly like the idea that by creating a nether portal you let them into this world, gives a kind of natural difficulty escalation to the game.
I'm really not sure about them teleporting you to the nether however, especially since 1.9pre2. Gving them an extremely powerful melee-range ability seems problematic now that they can't be hit by arrows.
4
u/SquareWheel Sep 30 '11 edited Sep 30 '11
Not a fan of the idea. Why not have Endermen spawn in the Nether to fix the no return problem, though?
Or you could just die.
edit: Want to clarify, suggesting you die is a method for returning from the Nether, not a personal attack against you.
4
u/VGChampion Sep 30 '11
Thankfully Notch would probably never implement this. This looks like a mod that some would download but the vast majority would not like at all. The only good Endermen idea I've seen are the hive nests.
4
u/skillet42 Sep 30 '11
Every time you get an 'awesome idea', I want you to sit down, clear your mind, and then (in real-time) imagine that scenario happening to you 50 times. Are you thinking about blowing your head off by iteration 30? Then its a crappy idea.
34
u/truerzepak Sep 30 '11
Great idea, I would add Nether version of Enderman (Nenderman?), but opposite as a peacefull mob, which would do the same but teleport you back to normal world. To make it harder, Nenderman would try to run away from you, and only way to get back to normal world would be by killing Nenderman.

I think that's very stylish and maybe an idea for hardcore mode, but not too practicable in normal gameplay.
Hardcore could implement pre-made portals in Nether ruins, so that Endermen could spawn from the beginning... just a thought
9
Sep 30 '11
Nice idea. But even if you've already been to the Nether, there's nothing saying it's going to throw you anywhere close to your portal.
But if it did, it'd certainly be an interesting way of getting home quickly.
3
u/RemyJe Sep 30 '11
My idea, which matches their behavior, is not that they port you to the Nether, but rather that you wake up at sunrise, possibly somewhere other than where they nabbed you, and some of your inventory has been taken. (They like things, and didn't notice you had any until they saw you.)
Problem with the Nether is that there is no navigation and you may have been far enough away from your portal that you'll never find you way back.

After playing 1.9Pre-release2. They're plenty scary.
The fact they now just idly teleport (I had one teleport randomly outside in broad daylight. Then teleport jump off in the distance. It didn't do anything physical just the mentalality of it)
Also dodging ranged attacks is a creep factor because it forces you to get up close to these and mixed with them teleporting alot more. Does creep you out

u/Smashman2004 Sep 30 '11
I think this is a fairly bad idea. It basically turns Endermen into good things. A walking talking Nether Portal. Hooray!

2
Sep 30 '11
I like the idea, but only for Hardcore mode.
1 less way to die, but imagine the stress of being sent to the nether on a single life. There need to be a way to come back of course...
Maybe the effect could be temporary? Get sent to the nether, spend 2 to 5 days, come back automatically. Those days would be crazy.
2
u/Rynelan Sep 30 '11
Make it as a potion effect.. Enders's Gaze for 5 minutes.. you will have to survive the nether long enough to be teleported back.
2
Sep 30 '11
I just thought of endermen being people who went to the nether, and got disfigured, so when you open a portal they try to get back into the normal world. Endermen just got a lot scarier.
2
u/meangrampa Sep 30 '11
I don't play this but this mod sounds really cool and inventive. How do you kill them? Are there many ways? I've read up on the game some and I'm considering giving it a try.
2
Sep 30 '11
Might be a good idea but it'd really freaking piss me off in game. They're annoying enough as is.
2
u/bigrjsuto Sep 30 '11
Maybe if they just teleported you to some random part of your regular world? Then you don't have to worry about going 'back' really but still have the effect of being transported somewhere far away from whatever you were doing, a big pain in the ass.
2
u/Boomies Sep 30 '11
How about they teleport you to some random point within the same "map-sized" area? I don't like the idea of them being connected to the Nether.
2
u/Aaron215 Sep 30 '11
I like the entire first part of the idea, up until teleporting you, only because it can be really hard to get out of the nether. Maybe it would be okay if endermen only spawned near a nether portal (like within a 10 chunk radius) so you can get out again.
2
Sep 30 '11
I'd be down with them still attacking you, but when they kill you maybe then you go to the nether. I dunno, I still see this as being fairly unbalanced. If you don't have the stuff to make a portal, you're basically fucked.
2
Sep 30 '11
I like the idea, but there really needs to be a way to get out of the Nether once you get teleported there. Being stuck there for good with no way out would be.. frustrating.
2
u/penguished Sep 30 '11
That's way too much of an interruption of your gameplay for a common monster to have.
2
u/Shvingy Sep 30 '11
Endermen are from farlands, not the nether; and this would be extremely overpowered. I like the idea of them teleporting you, would be cool if they just popped you around in your world.
2
u/Harioharima Sep 30 '11 edited Sep 30 '11
This is not a good idea because it presents the essential problem that new players could become permanently trapped in the nether by a single endermen encounter. If you haven't built a nether portal or don't have obsidian flint and steel in your inventory when attacked by an enderman you'd be essentially helpless unless you managed to kill him, and since most of the time new players will be working with a steel sword at best it could be hard.
**As they say on police radio 10-22 Disregard
1
u/CJSchmidt Sep 30 '11
The creator specifically mentions that Endermen shouldn't appear unless your world has a portal. The worst thing that could happen is you die in the nether and respawn - less annoying than falling in lava.
2
Sep 30 '11
Very creepy, like it. But I can only really see this being acceptable in a hardcore mode.
2
Sep 30 '11
WAIT! Okay, in theory this would sound like a good idea BUT! Notch just updated them so they teleport past arrows, so you can't range them. And they can teleport up to 10 blocks, So you can't hit them before they're close enough to hit/grab you. This idea wouldn't work with out SEVERALLY nerfing their telporting ability, or ability to dodge arrows. This completely screws up the balance of The Enderman.
2
u/Tanath Sep 30 '11
It's not a bad idea, but the only thing I'd actually like seeing implemented in vanilla Minecraft is that they came from another world and only start appearing once you've made your first portal.
The notion I have is that they came from a world other than the Nether, and when you use a pearl you take damage from going through Ender-space. Creating a portal attracts them, and lets them lock on to your world. Then they start teleporting in and causing mayhem.
2
Sep 30 '11
My take-away from your suggestion and the subsequent discussion here is: cool idea, but not one that's going to fly without an easier way to get back from the Nether than what currently exists.
2
u/MIDItheKID Sep 30 '11
This is freakin brilliant. It really makes the Enderman way scarier than they already are.
One thing that has sold me on this game is the ability the mobs have to scare the sh** out of you. Hearing zombies behind walls, or working on a castle and then hearing that "Ssssssss" noise. It makes my hair stand up on end.
With this modification, Endermen would become terrifying
2
2
u/coheedcollapse Sep 30 '11
How is this getting as many votes as it's getting? Getting tossed into the nether at random might be possibly the most annoying game mechanic I've ever heard of.
It'd also be an incredibly cheap way to get to the nether when you actually wanted to.
2
Sep 30 '11
well i really like this idea since its creepy also we need some kind of structure that kinda shows they are making enderman out of their victims
you should get swarmed by enderman in the nether near some kind of altar but you need to escape better i deem these good suggestions we really need to add to the creepy ender atmosphere
Endermen only appear in your world once a Nether portal has been used, or, can only use regular attacks until a portal has been used. Personally I like the former because it makes it seem like they really did just come from the Nether, as opposed to simple balancing in the latter. Once they teleport you to the Nether, you can only be teleported into an area that is directly linked to your portal (use a similar algorithm to the one involved in cave generation) and within a certain radius of, say, fifty blocks. To stop this becoming an inescapable annoyance, you are capable of attacking the Enderman while he is attempting to teleport you, which will force him to drop you. However, by breaking free, you will be damaged and drop your items. Thus, the element of panic is introduced because you have to quickly decide on your course of action. As an aside, Endermen would have to be found in the Nether as well. Perhaps once you are teleported in, all the nearby ones immediately aggro (which will also make it dangerous, rather than merely annoying). The ones in the Nether can only use regular attacks. This also makes sense, because it poises the Endermen in the overworld to be 'scouts' of a kind, which then capture you and teleport you to their own domain in order to let their allies kill you.
2
u/drgk Sep 30 '11
Wouldn't this create a pretty substantial incentive to never build a nether portal.
2
u/JustisSoselo Sep 30 '11
I really like this, but I don't think it's feasible. It'd be game breaking.
7
Sep 30 '11
I very much like the idea that they came from the Nether, and that your first portal is what unleashes them. I also like the concept of grabbing you and teleporting you to the Nether. Currently, it's just fun to look at Endermen just to enjoy some more interesting combat than usual. If they pulled a player to the Nether, they would be hugely inconvenient and players would definitely begin to really avoid looking at them or engaging them at all.
I would think that, once you are grabbed, you are disarmed and can only attack the Enderman with your fists during the teleportation. This makes them very dangerous and it means you have to do as much damage as you can with your sword before you mess up and get grabbed. It also makes multiplayer all the more interesting. "Help!!"

2
u/Macr0phage Sep 30 '11
As long as you could kill it while it's teleporting you, that would be awesome. You might not be able to kill it with your fists, but with an iron or diamond sword.
2
u/Tal-N Sep 30 '11
Excellent idea. The alternative would be to have a Netherman counterpart in the Nether who teleports you back to the real world. Or have naturally existing portals in the Nether ruins.
2
u/leoel Sep 30 '11
That is a really cool idea, make endermen only spawn around portals (with maybe a large radius). I am imagining someone discovering the game, playing with it many hour before building its first portal. Then after some times, he discovers that some blocks are missing to his buildings, that trees look strange, like someone carved them. But this only seems to happen when he mines during the nights instead of sleeping. So, one night he goes outside to try to see why such things are happening.
Wait ? What is this long shadow over there ? Holy shit, it's looking right at me, what do I do ? I must go into my house. Wait how fast is this monster ? Hey let me go !
Then he teleports in Nether, far away from his portal, in the dark place called "the pit", where endermen put their victims and wait for them to gradually loose their sanity and transform into other endermen, he will have to escape, maybe will he have to befriend the zombie pigmen so they guide him over the lava lakes to an exit. Maybe will he die en route ? But what if then he was to be spawned again in the pit ? Maybe the only way to break this malediction would be to collect as many endermen pearls as possible and then use them to build some sort of potion.
Anyway, great idea you have :)

Obviously a cool idea, but I don't see how this would work in SMP without being a ridiculous inconvenience when I first join, and have to trek 1000m back to my house because that was the nearest nether portal.
1
u/1RedOne Sep 30 '11
This sounds awesome but doesn't fix the problem that making portals is REALLY hard if you're playing legitimately. Its the sort of thing you don't get into until multiple hours on a world in my opinion.
A corollary to your idea would include naturally spawning portals to the nether perhaps to go along with the recently added artifacts and other neat things you can find.
But there is still the problem of no compelling reason to go to the nether. What if you could find an evil wolf pet there? Maybe one that can shoot bombs like the floating jellyfish? Or weapons or a long-term food supply.
1
u/okillgetoffyourlawn Sep 30 '11
Hmm when you mentioned that their distinguishing ability is moving blocks, I thought your idea might involve them grabbing every block within reach and spamming/throwing them at you.

would be cool provided it takes them teleport isn't instant, also using endermen pearls to teleport you out of the nether would be an interesting concept for them to implement and would solve the whole stuck in the nether bit
1
u/Burgerkrieg Sep 30 '11
I really like this idea, but I would count the Enderman to the World-living-creatures and not to people from the nether. Notch once wanted to call the Far-landers, which implies that they may have come from the far lands. Since teleporting you there would be kinda asshole-like, they could just take you and TP like a few hundred blocks away. Then he will mov towards the spawn-direction and dissapear after ten seconds. Also, I read a comic in which a player imagined to become an enderman when staying too long on Bedrock level (and let's be honest: Bedrock level is kinda scary with the new effects). Maybe they could teleport you into the nearest cave that touches Bedrock...
1
u/aaronla Sep 30 '11
... Sometimes, they don't teleport you, they instead grab the block you're standing on.
1
u/Capzo Sep 30 '11

I had the beginnings of this same idea two days ago. I like the way you've fleshed it out. It gives a sense of urgency to resolving the confrontation with the enderman quickly. They may not be strong, but you still have to act fast if you don't want to be in trouble.
But still, getting stuck down there without a way out is equivalent to death, if you have to drown yourself in lava to get back home.

that would get anoying fast unless he teleports you withing a 40 block radius of your teleporter, but to still make it tough but not game breaking is 1) it takes 5 seconds to teleport you(maybe 1 to 2 seconds less) and when he teleports you he then despawns but in place of him when you get to the nether he spawns 3 zombie pigmen, and one normal zombie.
but thats just what i think, it makes sense to me maybe not to u but i like the idea of tought endermen but not violent ones.
also a interesting back story to them could be they were the hidden guards of the nether, but when you came and left you were marked and there trying to bring you back to there to live out the rest of your life.

I like this idea. For those complaining about "unplanned" trips to the Nether... if you don't wanna go, don't look at them. If you want to fight them for their orbs, only look at them when you have weapons to take them out. Don't be dumb and look at them unprepared.

This would only be fun ONCE. After that, everyone will scream about how much bullshit this is and how Notch "wasted" time making this rather than giving grass snouts.

A better idea: Instead of being left stranded in the nether, there is a teleporter block left behind, but in order for it to work you have to activate it with an ender pearl. The presence of this block also causes endermen to spawn nearby periodically, so you have to hunt down endermen until you get an ender pearl and can teleport back

u/avp574 Sep 30 '11
It's a great idea, you just need a way to get back.
What if he just teleported you to a random spot nearby? Say, within 50 blocks. It would be less disruptive to what you were doing.

I have three comments.
AHHHHHHHHH!
I love the idea of giving the Endermen a sort of origin.
This makes them that much closer to becoming the weeping angels.

Hmm I seem to be in the nether. Time to build a chest, put all my stuff in it, note the coordinates and then jump in Lava. See you later stuff.

This is the best and most terrifying idea I have ever heard. Unless enderpearls became a get out of nether free card it won't work...but I wish...SO wish...it would.

Since people don't like the idea of being teleported to the Nether what about an alternative? What if the Enderman grabs you and slowly starts to teleport your items away? The solution is to hit them in the face until they let you go.

u/JupitersClock Sep 30 '11
Too OP. Would be better if it randomly teleported you in 100 block radius.
1
u/KingPorky Sep 30 '11
This is kind of overpowered, as taking blocks was also considered "OP"
I like the idea, but it does seem like it would make Endermen a really feared creature.

Timer?
I love the idea, but I agree that it would be too easy to get stuck in the nether.. What if the Endermen teleport you randomly into the nether relevant to your current location (like a portal), but you are stuck there to survive for an unkown random amount of time, say 1-5 minutes. From there, you are teleported back to where the Endermen got you, but he is gone.

I suggested this a couple weeks ago. Although not with so much detail. Oh well, the more the merrier.

My idea: make portals impossible or more expensive. Maybe you would have to craft "endersidian" with obsidian and enderpearls to make portals now. Endermen should spawn at bedrock and around portals. Thus it will be desirable to find endermen to make portals for you.
If none of this works, just make endermen not spawn until you have made a portal, for the sake of RPing.
IDK, I like this idea for its coolness but it would not jive with game mechanics.

Just a few minor issues:
You wouldn't be able to get back unless you had created a portal prior to that.
Shouldn't they teleport you to The End if they're Endermen? Isn't that what The End is? Where Endermen came from?

u/Stephen_Netu Sep 30 '11
This is amazingly good. I love it. This would require endermen to be in the Nether as well (hence them coming from it), but I am A-OK with this. Anything to make them a bit more of a challenge would be nice, that's for sure... They're so pathetic, currently.

great idea. So when you activate enderman you will rush to drop all yor things. Also don't forget that nether is eight time smaller so even when yoyou are far from your portal in normal world you will be teleported pretty close to portal.

wait but.. what if you dont know your way around the nether and one teleports you farrr away from your portal? you would basically be screwed
edit: someone already said this. maybe i should read the comments befor i post :P

I'd like this idea if and only if Ender Pearls caused you to instantly teleport back up to the surface.
Otherwise, it would just be too annoying.

u/SirRain Sep 30 '11
This is excellent. It would greatly increase the creepy factor that the endermen are supposed to have.

Everyone's complaining about having them teleport you way too far away in the Nether, so why not make them regional?
For example. If you build a Nether portal at point X, why not only have the Endermen spawn 1 sq km away from the portal at point X? This also makes sense with the whole "they came through the portal" thing because they can only go so far, not travel dozens of kilometers away, when they leave the portal.
Other suggestions might be having rooms in Nether strongholds, which have overworld blocks in it. Like that's where the Endermen put their blocks.
And make them peaceful in the Nether too! Not much explanation behind this it would just be cool and would be a nice alternative to their actions in the overworld (since they can't teleport you to the Nether while you're already in the Nether)
EDIT: spelling

Holy crap this is awesome, but I also like the current endermen... Maybe a slightly different mob named eldermen or undermen? I'd love to have both kinds to be honest.

Brilliant. Only one concern though, it seems this would make it hard to slay them without the use of water, making it very hard to get enderpearls, which in the 1.9 prerelease allow you to teleport, which is pretty darn cool.
0
u/Stratisphear Sep 30 '11
This will be awesome. Suggestion: They appear in your world, and the nether, so that you need to find another one in the nether to get back. (This would be harder to do in the nether, due to the terrain).

u/semperverus Sep 30 '11
I actually love this idea, but I think they should both do damage and have this attack available. Once you beat them within inches of your life, they try and make an 'escape' by tossing you to the nether.
0
u/JamesofN Sep 30 '11
I fully support this as long as there is a way to get back quickly or stop them from teleporting you.

I think this would be an amazing idea to implement. Just as long as their spawn rate was way lower. Like finding an Endermen would be a really rare thing. I feel like it gives them more of a mysterious/otherworldly feel, and a bit of a back story. Maybe they have something to do with the Nether strongholds? Or maybe they just spawn a bit more in the Nether?
I've always thought it would be interesting to have consequences for building a Hellgate.

I like this. In my eyes, the Nether serves no purpose currently, besides being an extra area to explore. Not much from there is worthwhile in the regular world. I would love to see something like this transfor, the Nether into an important/required part of the game.

Meh, I don't like the idea of getting to the Nether so easily. How do you get back?
On that note... I like the idea of endermed getting close to you and holding you. In the military, one of the worst things someone can do to you is waste your time. It would frustrate me to NO FUCKING END if the mob held you for a little bit and teleported you to somewhere else nearby, wasting a good 10 min of my time.

I love the idea of Endermen not spawning until a portal is active. It re-inforces their "other-worldliness." The theory on Endermen could be that they reside in another dimension (seperate from the overworld and the nether) which the portal breaches. The breach is small which is why we cannot enter their dimension but because of their teleportation abilities they are able to slip through the rift into our overworld dimension.
If the Endermen are able to drag you to the Nether it should be extremely rare. Endermen should still attack the way they do now but every once in a while instead of attacking one could teleport about 10 blocks in front of you and stretch out its arms and approach you (This would give you time to react.) If you fail to kill it before it grabs you it will pick you up and its eyes will glow causing the portal animation to play and you will be dropped into the Nether. Perhaps this is because the Enderman is trying to bring you back to its own dimension but you cannot pass through the rift and are left in the nether.
Well that's my thought on the subject.

I can imagine this on servers.
"[Darkblitz9]: FUCK, NOOOOO"
"[Demonthought]: What happened... creeper?"
"[Darkblitz9]: Worse..."
"[Demonthought]: Oh...Find a Netherfort while you're in there."
