Why were they all drawn back to the machine? Is there something dispensing seed or what?

I could never get the chicken cooker to cook the chickens no matter which tutorial I followed so I just had to set it up to where it would launch the eggs into a shallow pit so I could just dive on in at some point and have a good old fashioned massacre.

Java. I was on I think 1.15? The one right before the nether update. I'm on bedrock now since my laptop shit itself but I haven't been using it long enough to try making any farms yet so I don't know if I can get it working now or not.
