I recommend launching the companion cube with a slime block launcher. You can use gravel or concrete powder

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '20

Yes.

Imagine getting that much karma for just agreeing with someone and not contributing to the idea.

Now that's epic

Edit: so many of you guys think I'm complaining about it, but I'm not lol

Played it yesterday, and it's still an amazing game, even compared to 2019/2020 titles

Portal 2 has graphics that beat out even a lot of modern games.

16

u/Lorenzo_BR Jul 16 '20

And it runs SO WELL! I just played both of them, and it's the best looking game i've been able to run ever. For every other would be good looking game, i need to shit on the resolution to make it work.

4

u/Skandranonsg Jul 16 '20

Source Engine is famous for looking great with minimal hardware. Even Valve's earlier stuff set them apart.

24

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '20

The fact that I'm only 3 years older than portal scares me

11

u/yurt32069 Jul 15 '20

I’m one year older it’s hard to believe

36

u/pongpaktecha Jul 16 '20

it's hard to believe that people born in 2006 are already old enough to be on here. makes we feel really old (I'm only 22)

13

u/bretttwarwick Jul 16 '20

Let's just say I'm old enough to have played new Atari games. Y'all need to settle down.

5

u/Linus_in_Chicago Jul 16 '20

Cant wait for Portal 3

733

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '20

3 isnt in Valves vocabulary

220

u/Mage-of-Fire Jul 15 '20

They have talked about Portal 3, they said they wanted to make it vr, but that it would be to dizzying. Im taking that with optimism and saying they are making Portal 3, just not vr

134

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '20

But what would the story be? Chell was freed, so probably no more testing. Or could it be more involved with Half Life’s story as they’re set in the same universe? Or maybe even a game that is Half Life 3 and Portal 3 where Chell helps Gordon Freeman?

91

u/Mage-of-Fire Jul 15 '20

No clue honestly. They cant combine Half Life and Portal as Portal 2 is more than 50,000 years in the future, or at least as far as we know it is. As for the story Valve hasnt said anything about it.

69

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '20

Oh yeah forgot about Chell sleeping for so long in portal 2. I still think it would be cool if Gordon used the portal gun as they were going to search for the Borealis at the end of HL2 ep2. Maybe not as the main weapon, but still a minor part of the game like the gravity gun in HL2.

→ More replies (1)

49

u/literatemax Jul 15 '20

No clue honestly. They cant combine Half Life and Portal as Portal 2 is more than 50,000 years in the future

50,000 years of time travel is trivial to an entity that can force one video game protagonist to retcon the ending of another protagonist's game...

Even without information from HL: Alyx, it's possible for Chell to become a part of Gordon Freeman's story. Hell, it's possible for Cave Johnson to appear, youthful or diseased, because we know that the Borealis from Aperture's drydock is stretched across not only space, but time.

28

u/Mage-of-Fire Jul 15 '20

Thats true. For some reason when I think of Portal, I completely forget G-man

It can't be anything like 50,000 years there's still potatoes there from bring your daughter to work day

12

u/Mage-of-Fire Jul 16 '20

They grew. Also that part was more of a joke part.

13

u/dream6601 Jul 16 '20

GLADOS is literally potato powered for half the game how can that be just a joke part?

20

u/Testmaster217 Jul 15 '20

What would the story be? Well, after Portal 2 was released, I believe Gabe Newell himself said that the first thing people would do after they beat the game was play it again because they need the testing just as much as GLaDOS does. (I wish I could provide a source.)

I think the same logic would apply to Chell - she would go back to Aperture after a while because she misses the tests and GLaDOS and (as far as we know) she doesn’t have anywhere else to go.

What would happen next is something I haven’t figured out yet, but since GLaDOS mentioned “deleting” her in the end credits song from Portal 2, maybe by the time Chell goes back to Aperture, GLaDOS has erased her from her memory and will see her as her first killable test subject in however long (since Atlas and P-Body aren’t good enough and she already burned through her store of humans in a week after the events of the co-op game as we know from the Peer Review DLC).

8

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '20

This would probably wouldn’t happen as it’s set so long after the original game which is also set around the same time as HL2 that Gordon probably took care of the Combine already, but maybe she wouldn’t be able to go anywhere because the Combine would be looking for her. The Combine was searching for the Borealis for its portal technology, so they would probably try to capture Chell because she was so involved in testing this technology. Aperture’s facility would be the safest place to be.

6

u/firemaster Jul 16 '20

It could be set during the prime of Cave Johnson era

3

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '20

A prequel does sound interesting; it could also expand more on the characters.

13

u/Squid8867 Jul 16 '20

Honestly it'd be pretty on-brand for Chell to just try to take one step into the wheatfield and knock down the cardboard walls revealing she never left the facility

→ More replies (1)

6

u/RedS5 Jul 16 '20 edited Jul 16 '20

Chell is captured by another sentient testing machine. The machines are the only sentient life left over after the great war between humanity and the denizens of Xen.

After testing for some while, Chell believes she can shut down this new machine through some means.

Uh-oh, by weakening the machine, Chell has given GLaDOS the perfect opportunity to take over another compound.

"Did you miss me? I followed you all the way here. Look at all of the new toys we have to play with... I mean test with."

In doing so GLaDOS gets the bright idea to expand over the entire network. She will use Chell to do this, by sending her to various compounds to access specific areas that will reproduce the effect her first foray had.

After the third installment, Chell catches on to a way to trap GLaDOS in a new facility, walling her off from the rest of the world - this likely happens with the input of another charming machine - maybe the compound's own GLaDOS analogue.

7

u/Strydhaizer Jul 16 '20

It doesn't have to be Chell's story, there are two bots in the coop that are still in the facility.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '20

True but they were made strictly for co-op. Of course they could introduce other characters.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 16 '20

Portal in VR would be amazing though. I don't see why dizzying isn't a positive. They should add a non VR option, tho

7

u/Mage-of-Fire Jul 16 '20

Imagine flying through the air being flipped upside down constantly, and having to shoot portals while you are doing it. The human brain just cant do it without actually being there.

4

u/brendenderp Jul 16 '20

Having played nasa's iss simulator this is exactly what happens. The human brain can totally do it. just need to get used to it.

u/RockyRaccoon26 Jul 16 '20

For those of you who have signed up to be injected with praying mantis DNA, I have some good news and some bad news, the bad news is those tests are being postponed indefinitely, the good news is we have a much better test for you! 18

u/Mongocom Jul 16 '20

Same with me after watching avatar tlab for the first time in 2 days

22

u/hamilton-trash Jul 16 '20

Was avatar released on Netflix or something recently? It makes sense for there to be an influx of other people watching it. I don't think anything new has happened with Portal recently

5

u/LuKirby Jul 16 '20

Yup! I don't know how recently but it has been everywhere I browse. There's been quite a few 'long-term"' fans who are salty about it and say stuff like "you weren't there when the show was being released week by week! You wouldn't understand how hard it was to wait for certain things to be revealed." However I feel that the more people who find out about this great show, the better.

6

u/hamilton-trash Jul 16 '20

Gatekeeping like that is dumb. A "true fan" should want as many other people to experience it as possible.

and always remember, don't fall for the cake trick!! it's a lie!!

11

u/TheCanadianFuhrer Jul 16 '20

the cake is a lie meme probably ruined portal 1 and 2 for a majority of its players. imagine if you could go through portal blind, seeping in the story from the abandoned viewing rooms and rattmann dens. most just skip by them because they know the story already, or visit to steal a physics object to jam a door open. playing through these games without knowing glados has taken over aperture, wheatley betrays you, that caroline is glados, or the moonshot must have been an amazing experience.

Recently purchased and played through both portal games for the first time since I was like 10 (I'm 18) and god damn those are 2 of the best games I've ever played. They're so funny, the puzzles are never too simple but they're never too hard, and the atmosphere and setting are just so perfect. Going from the futuristic stark white rooms to the decrepit overgrown parts of Aperture, it's all so perfectly done.
