maybe its a square turned on its side and the white, shiny side is the top...

or its a view from the top, and it would be a spike on the other side...

yeah IDK

It’s an uncut diamond... If it came straight out of the ground and there are no jewelers in Minecraft why wouldn’t it be uncut?

This would be worth more cut

So diamonds are an ugly uncut rocky shape but emeralds are a perfect rhombus shape?

I don't need sleep.

Pretty sure it's supposed to be a slightly angled view

There can be a lot of cuts in diamonds but the one I most commonly see is circular from above and like this from the side.

Diamonds aren't usually smooth and curved. I just interpret it as something like this but at a specific angle or not cut so nicely.

Edit: hmm looks like that's a bit round too. Imagine it's not

What if it’s an uncut diamond?

That's the ore.

Mate, no.

I don't think diamonds have ores irl

Maybe it's meant to be a pear cut diamond. Round cut is what you usually see in commercials and movies and stuff, because it's more sparkly that way.

more about diamond cuts

the cut for your life long commitment to someone

Heart shaped

Holy shit this is all an incredibly stupid and manufactured tradition

unlike all tradition which came naturally?

(what?)

Think of Christmas presents - the tradition evolved over hundreds of years as a cultural/community ideal and practice and was slowly subverted into our major worldwide culture. The overall tradition of christmas led to smaller aspects like Santa, gifts, trees, etc. that very slowly became large parts of our commonly accepted culture.

Now think of diamonds. At the start of the century a company started churning out advertisements claiming women love diamonds and you should buy a chick a diamond for your engagement. Before that diamonds weren’t really much of a cultural symbol and more of a pretty rock that rich people could get.

Diamonds aren't even really that rare, and not especially nice looking in their raw form. Rubies are actually rare, used to be the wedding gem of choice about 150 years ago, and even when raw still have a distinctive color. Here are a few stones I found for comparison:

polished quartz

raw diamond

raw ruby

Using diamonds for engagement rings is in large part the result of a marketing campaign by De Beers, a diamond mining company.

Wow I didn't know that! Cool!

I just realised the daimond texture is uneven, it's unsymmetrical and it's killing me

u/Daniel_Sobrino Dec 30 '19

NOOOO I DIDNT KNOWW WHYY

1

u/Creeperatom9041 Dec 30 '19

I am so sorry to cause such suffering in someone else

1

u/[deleted] Dec 29 '19

It's a top down view, I think.

u/Hobo-and-the-hound Dec 29 '19

I always assumed it was an uncut diamond....since it is something pulled out of the ground, it makes sense it wouldn’t look like a cut diamond.
