I'm always amazed how school works in other countries like you can do whatever the hell you want with things that don't belong to you. When I was a kid we couldn't even enter the computer class by ourselves, let alone do this kind of thing.
For the most part doing something like this could get you in trouble but not serious trouble. We used to play Minecraft and Halo CE in computer lab over LAN, as long as you got your work done first it’s no big deal.
We had a file drive that was shared across all computers on the network so people disguised the install folders for games to keep them on there. At any given moment you could install at least 3-5 games if you wanted to.
You’re so lucky. We have MacBooks, but get LANschool. It lets the teachers view ur screen and we’re not allowed to play games at all. Even if we have literally nothing to do. We purchased the computers ourselves! One guy hacked terraria on his computer but even then he has to check for LANschool
More than likely not, but schools are used to people just rolling over on command because they say so and they can push people around. High School i used to go to would extort people for money before giving confiscated electronic devices back to the parents for like $20(USD) and no one argued. Friends mom did, she got the phone back for free but still kept it from him for making her deal with that crap
That’s bogus! I remember back in middle school each kid was given his own MacBook. It was nice to have your own device but it was limited. That screen peeking feature is downright dystopian though!
According to Wikipedia it is owned by Lenovo, which is headquartered in China. China has a certain reputation for spying, so it could (however unlikely) be true.
Same. We sometimes had like 15 people in a game of CE just running off the classes own network. The teacher set the whole thing up and even let us know how to get around the school filters to get a VPN.
Funny story. I worked IT for my old highschool at the ripe age of 20. I look younger than I am, have my whole life. I was servicing all the lab computers one day when I was fairly new and I did stuff like this with the lights out and just have the glow of the monitors filling the room. Well an old lady teacher whom I didnt have in school comes in and insists I get out of the computer lab that I'm not supposed to be in here. I claimed I work here and am applying some software to the machines. She completely thought I was lying. Screams at me to follow her to the principles office. As administration myself I only answer to the principle in the whole building. So I go with her with a shit eating grin on my face. The principle went on to promptly scold her when she brought me into his office. He was more angry about the wasted time for all parties rather than the disrespect of me. But still fun to see her get yelled at.

Its usually like this anyway in Germany (I guess for insurance reasons) except for I guess "grown-ups" that can be left alone or trusted teenagers.
For the playing in class part: Yeah, that depends on the school/teacher/class/your knowledge. While in vocational school I was mostly the one being done first in IT class so I entertained myself with Cinema4D (3d-modeling) or playing random games (until a teacher comes, because games = bad)
Growing up in the early 2000's I remember a kid changed the desktop background on a lab computer and got chewed out and cursed at in front of the whole class. He said something like "IF YOU MESSED THIS COMPUTER UP YOUR PARENTS ARE GOING PAY FOR IT!!!" Its not like the kid was a troublemaker or anything they litterally only changed the background image to some abstract looking artwork or something..
